Hey David!! i've been watching a ton of your videos to decide on our best cold set up. I keep going back & forth between the 1hp & 1/2 hp aqua chiller. We live in utah temps are good most of the year except summers reach anywhere from 112-120 so definitely hotter than Florida avg.
We thought the garage might help protect our chiller from sun, but then the garage itself is warmer. Do you think we should go with the 1hp to be safe? or would a 1/2 hp cut it. I'm planning to get the Ice barrel 300 with it. Thanks so much!

Here is the full deal on the fittings and what you need to use for the Plunge 1HP Pro Chiller based on the hour on the phone I spent with Plunge, and 2 hours at Home Depot trying different parts:
First, Plunge does not have, and will never have, the fittings. Their customer service reps might tell you different, but don't believe them (they are nice but very ill-informed) - I got it straight from the person in charge of their inventory and one their head techs.
What they intend everyone to use instead of fittings are two "grommets" they ship inside of the chillers. You are somehow (without instructions) supposed to figure out they are there and that they are to be used instead of fittings. To get them just remove the vent cover on either side of the chiller and you'll find them rolling around loose. They look like a roll of electrical tape with a white core. They fit like a cork when you insert them into the in and out ports of the chiller - a cork with a hole in the middle.
To make the hole work for your system is then up to you. After much trial and error here is what I found that seems to work: I’m using 3/4" spa hose for my cold plunge setup, so I found a 3/4" PVC 90 degree elbow (socket to female threaded) combined with a 3/4" barb to 3/4" male threaded. I removed the white cores from the grommets and then inserted the socket (non-threaded) end of the elbows into the grommets (a tight fit) then screwed the barb into the elbow.
This appears to work, and is what the Plunge person told me is the sort of way they intended the grommets to be used (why they don't ship the chiller with this info or have it on their site - or tell their customer service people - I have no friggin idea. Infuriating!). I say “appears to work” because I have not tried it yet with the chiller working. But I don’t see why it won’t work - it all seems very tight and functional. I’ll update this once I actually have my system operational.
I'm sure there are several other ways to use the grommets to make the chiller functional. There is also another non-grommet solution I discovered: if you measure the ports with a ruler they appear to be 1-3/4” in diameter. If you call Plunge they will tell you they are 2-1/4” but this is wrong. The 2-1/4” spec they have in their system is the outer diameter of the fittings that no longer exist. However, the ports are actually 1-1/2” NPT, which I found out after much researching is different than a straightforward measurement of the diameter. So, you can use a 1-1/2” Schedule 40 PVC female threaded 90 degree elbow on this chiller - or, I suppose, any 1-1/2” chiller fitting you can find (good luck with that!). Then use a 1-1/2” to 3/4” reducer bushing combined with the 3/4” barb I mentioned before. If the grommets don’t end uo working, I’ll use the big 1-1/2” PVC elbows instead.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone. If you want photos or links to what I'm using, just email me at: lancedr@me.com.
