The price of this thing (and all new GA aircraft) is insane. The GA market in the 1960's and 1970's was selling 10000 single-engine airplanes a year. Now they're selling fewer than 1500. The manufacturers are slowly pricing themselves out of existence.
It sells well because of income inequality. There’s tons more very rich people. If you have the money why would you waste it on a $500k Cessna? It’s the new hotness and it is fast. Same reason there’s so many $1m+ hypercars when that wasn’t a thing at all 20 years ago.
