- TSN Oilers reporter Ryan Rishaug and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger join James Duthie to discuss Edmonton's 'crushing' loss in Game 3. Rishaug says missed opportunities and mistakes were the main theme for the Oilers following the defeat.
I love how all the media was talking smack about FL leaving a day later and how it will affect their play. But they still took the dub out in Edmonton.

Yeah they had like a whole 45 minute segment pushing that narrative to gaslight everyone into believing a 3 hour flight delay would affect the Panther’s game.

The Panthers are a great team but it's never been so clear the difference in quality of goaltending this series to really separate the two teams. 0.867 vs 0.954

I think the Florida 3rd goal was the real killer. The fourth one felt like piling on and the second one felt like it might be temporary. After the 3rd goal, as a Panther fan, for the first time during the game, I felt like the Panthers were on their way to a win.
If it was mcdavid scoring a goal like the second one that Florida scored, the narration would have been “aggressive forecheck from mcdavid”

@@MattAlbie You're being bitter for zero reason. Edmonton has a mediocre roster outside of two, maybe three players up front. You're icing a backup goaltender behind a defense that plays to about 10% of what's being spent on it. Just accept the team is bad and they got extremely lucky getting to the finals in the first place.

@@FeralVyrux Edmonton is literally never winning a 7 game series versus a full strength Vancouver team. They pounded them into dust in the regular season and STILL went to 7 games despite having a bum in net and key injuries to multiple players. They got lucky, end of.

Just too many mistakes : the 2-1 goal was decisive. Skinner could not stop the puck and Ceci could not hold the stick of Luostarinen.
The Lundell line has been the secret weapon behind the superstars.

The 3rd line is often the charm. Tampa had two different, amazing 3rd lines in their cup runs that basically defined their success. You know the top six will contribute at some point, so if the 3rd can either contribute offensively or totally kill the opposing first or second line, that's absolutely key.

I feel bad for McDavid. He’s still working very hard every shift and he is playing at a point per game pace this series. He can’t do it alone though.
With that said, eventually your top guys have to be putting the puck in the net.
Kudos to McD for taking this media moment, kind of an impossible situation to respond to. This loss is a crying shame as I think the oilers were starting to take the game over after evening the score until the gaff behind the net cost them the freebie 2nd Panther’s goal. Lazy mistakes cost them the game, that and Panther’s collapsing down low net front and making it very difficult to get chances in there. I think whether on PP, or five on five they need to enter the zone with break-neck speed, drop the puck back to the point and attack/crash net front to disrupt the defence and goal tending. Even send two forwards into the crease area at speed and let three stay high to work the seams and protect against breakouts. Get that puck pin-balling in the confusion and do it all fast.

Lots of mistakes, but when your #1 goalie lets in every 6th shot and some soft ones on top, you aren't going to win anything. I remember saying "Is knob going to ride Skinner to defeat like woody would?" 5 months ago. The answer is now Yes. Knob really blew the shift by refusing to use Pickard even though he played the best game of the playoffs, and got rewarded by being sat. Not at all smart.

Skinner is at 0.867 save % in this series. Yeah the Oilers are making some mistakes but Skinner can't make a save to bail his team out when they do. He's brutal. His playoff save %0.893. Its a huge weakness.

They need four Fernando Pisanis! 😄 I couldn't agree more. And of course, they need players like Smyth, Pronger, and Roloson. I'm not blaming the current team, but they are too inconsistent for the Stanley Cup Final. Their mindset isn't aligned with their talk, and they're making too many crucial mistakes. It's like they need to learn before they can win the cup. This is exactly what the Panthers went through last year. The players are doing a great job, but they are struggling to score goals. For some reason, their shots just won't go in. Bobrovsky is indeed playing great, but some of their shots could be much better than they actually are.

Oilers are not losing because of a skill or "depth" gap, they are losing because they make the same consistent mistakes every game. Giving up free goals defensively with mistakes, and on offense, still trying to beat Bob low. If they don't stop making mistakes, it's over next game. These games could be a 3-3 or a 4-2 in favor of Oilers, but Florida isn't making the mistakes the Oilers are, that's the difference.
