  • Hello RUclips community. I'm uploading another gameplay of a different game now. This time: HyperBowl.
    I didn't notice that the microphone was on until the last minute of the recording, so you will hear me coughing and sighing along the entire video (I'm not sick, by the way. Only spontaneous coughing). As an unintended consequence of that slip-up, I can confirm that the microphone is working correctly and I can count on it when I actually plan to add commentary to my next video.
    About the gameplay itself, my apologies for my awful performance. I last played this game when I was still going to school (more than 10 years ago). Also, I only played the 6 classic worlds before (Classic, Pines of Rome, Yosemite, Tokyo, High Seas and San Francisco), so I was testing the other 5 five for the first time. I think they are funny, but the first one I tested was very strange, especially when the pins fell spontaneously right after starting the approach on my last attempts.
    Anyway, it felt good to try again this game after so long. I will upload more videos in the future, so stay tuned. See you next time.

    I remember this game being way better looking in 2007...

      Indeed. The ball was bouncing spontaneously, and the new bowling tracks were extremely buggy, especially the one that looked like the Smurf Village. Another important fact is that the Steam version (the one I show in this video) is actually a redux version created by Technicat, LLC., not Hyper Entertainment, the developer of the original version, and it could have affected the quality of this last version.

      hyperbowl was originally designed and created exclusively for the airtight garage arcade at san francisco's metreon entertainment complex in 1999 (now sadly just a generic mall). since the arcade it was made for always had music blasting in the background anyway, the game didn't bother having any music in it. and i guess when they made the home version they didn't bother adding any. 🤷‍♂

      @@ActuallySanFrancisco Thanks for the context, that's pretty neat.

      @@MegidolErin of course! the place was one of a kind when it opened, perhaps too ahead of its time for its own good, though i feel like it could have lasted longer if sony (the people who planned and opened the place) cared more to stay invested long-term, but oh well. you can find some footage of people playing hyperbowl at metreon when it was there on youtube. the arcade version used real bowling balls as trackballs to control the in-game ball. oh, and another fun-fact: the reason hyperbowl initially only got ported to windows was because the metreon was also home to the world's fist microsoft store (yes, it actually predated the first apple store) and microsoft worked out an exclusivity deal with sony so they could sell the game in that store after people played it in the adjacent arcade.

    I remember this bowling game before back in 2001. We had xp at that time

    • @HungrySmeerp
      @HungrySmeerp  3 года назад +2

      Yeah. It felt different from other bowling games because you drove the ball instead of just launching it along the track. It also had the bonus of exploring the landscape, at the cost of running out of time to strike down the pins or rolling the ball into the Gutter. It is my favorite bowling game by far, but it definitely feels funnier when playing with friends.

    I remember playing the demo as a kid but never got the full version itself.

    • @HungrySmeerp
      @HungrySmeerp  3 года назад

      Me too. I played the demo with my dad when he got the Windows XP Plus. Many years later, I downloaded an ISO of the full game, so I played the rest of the original bowling tracks (Yosemite, High Sea, Tokyo and San Francisco) and I was surprised that the Steam version felt so rough around the edges (just see how many times my ball was bouncing in San Francisco). The new maps were buggy, moreover, the one that looks like the Smurf Village is actually broken. I hope the developers of this Unity port (the Steam version) had repaired those glitches, but I can't confirm it since I didn't play the game after I recorded the video. Greetings!

    I remember this game back in 2001, It was included with Plus for Windows XP add-on. Plus Edition only included 2 stages, Classic and Rome. To get the full version of the game, I had to purchase Arcade Edition separately from Hyper Entertainment, Arcade Edition has one of the worst DRM at that time. Once I activate my game on my computer if I need to reinstall the game again, I have to contact the game developers to provide them the reason for my reinstallation before I can activate the game again.

      I never had the Arcade Edition (I downloaded a pirated copy about ten years ago, but lost it shortly after), but yeah, the DRM you're talking about sucks. Reminds me of the SecuROM anti-piracy system I read and watched videos about.
      Thank you for sharing your memories of this game.

      Thanks! I did my best to score as many strikes as possible, but some worlds, especially the new ones, ranged from having major bugs like the spontaneous bouncing, to be completely broken.

    I dont know if it was this game but i remember a bowling game that would take you to egypt and rome. Seems alot like this game except I remember the homeworld looking different. Also im pretty sure the pins moved as an animation at the end or something. It had near marble blast graphics but im pretty sure its just how i remember them. The animation may have been the games load cutscene where one of the pins has like a mouth and is scared that its gonna be hit

      Hello, and thank you for stopping by!
      I am afraid that this isn't the game you tried to remember. Despite being the Steam version a remake in Unity of the original game, all the loading screens were the same in both versions, so if there was anything you remember that is missing in this video, then it must be another game, because I covered everything the game had to show.
      Nevertheless, you triggered my curiosity, because I'm not into this kind of games. I just played it about 15 years ago, and bought the game on Steam because of pure nostalgia. I wish I knew what game was, but your comment is all the hints I have.

      Congratulations! You are the first one commenting on any of my videos. The five worlds I played right before the classic one are new, at least that's what I recall. The name doesn't appear on any of them, but if I were forced to guess the names, I would call them:
      1- The village in the forest (perhaps it's the Smurfs Village).
      2- The night camp (maybe it's inspired on the Old West).
      3- The mushroom kingdom XD (I guess it was based on a fairy tale movie).
      4- The snow track (Winter Olympic track).
      5- The palm beach road (even if it seems that it's only a random platform in the middle of the sea, but the important thing is the palm trees, rather than the grass).
      Thank you for commenting. I hope it will be the first comment of many.
