  • A very important part of your job as a rigger is getting the crane operators hook centre of the load. Being over Jibbed or under Jibbed is extremely dangerous and can cause accidents.

When lifting 40ft sea containers off semi trailers, multiple factors can play part, causing uncontrolled movement.

Good tips, on your last tip where you said about if your getting centre of a shipping container and cant stand on the load to grab the chains to hook them up, what i do is tie the tag line on the chains, find centre, come down on the hook, then you can pull the chains with the tag like and grab em to hook em up

You're a legend mate, always enjoy the videos and I like subjecting my misses to them too cause she's always sick of me talking about cranes haha

I'm a tower crane operator and crane supervisor. Having the hoist on centre of the load can cause problems on heavy loads with a big jib. Part of the deflection should be taking out by jibbing the crane back before hoisting

Good stuff mate. Can you comment on boom deflection for big slewcranes? I was taught to have the hook a little closer to the crane to compensate for boom deflection.
