Awesome vid Andrew...great photography! Your videos, plus some from Brian Phillips, helped me decide to buy this glider...which i did! I've only flown it once, but absolutely love it! Can't wait till i have the skills to fly like you guys! (new pilot)
Yes I liked it too. My normal onboard cam was flat so I used the hatcam Mobius with external mic in a mini wind muff. Worked so well I might use it again.
You have some nice playgrounds Andrew. I have tracked your maiden/thermal playground down too. They both look lots of fun. I fly in the Heathcote valley in Christchurch. The hills can make an easterly wind a bit interesting at times. I have yet to attempt sloping. Will be interesting!!!
Urban Area on the hills. The sports grounds we fly out of are in the lee in an easterly, our prevailing wind, ok in light conditions, interesting when the wind gets up what with my lousy pilot skills :)
Another nice relaxing sloping vid from the Master on a glorious day. That Phoenix looked at peace in flight. There was nothing in this vid that suggested possible avionic performance issues at all. Really stable and smooth. I'm interested to know if you consider this version of Phoenix in the same league as your Fox Glider? Great review Andrew.
Great stuff Andrew.. but I notice there is a recurring problem with the prop bolt/pin popping out of its housing causing the blade to stick out while the other folds back. Brian Phillips found this problem during his video aswell.
I liked the catch at the end of the vid. Well done. Question please. Does the asw28 wing fit into the fuselage???? I have a wing set ordered. I like to try something different. Inav 2 allows flaperon conversion to spoileron. Allow flaps in CLS. Adjust throw in CLS. Reverse weight in mixer. (But you probably know that) Plane sinks like a stone with crow. I hope you enjoy this craft as much as I enjoy mine!!!!!!
Thanks Andrew for that information. Might have to buy an ASW fuselage as well. Have you seen the new frsky G-RX8 receiver. Has the vario in it. Cheaper than buying a receiver and a vario. A wee bit lighter and smaller too. I have several they seem to work quite well. Garry G
Very nice video and wonderful flying site! Thanks for sharing these beautiful images. Do you think it is possible to have an unpowered version of this model?
@@AndrewNewton great video, thanks! So you bought it and removed all the engine gear? Does it come with a nose to be attached in the place of prop+spinner? Thank you for your time!
@@AndrewNewton thanks ! Think the new betaxinsta lightweight cam will replace it? Or I guess too much drag? I'm hoping they make a 'naked' 360 version, which can then be mounted in any orientation.
I'm in the process of assembling the V2. Ive read that it is difficult to correct the CG using an 1800 3S. Have you tried to yet and would like to hear how you achieved this.
2200 3S pushed right back to the wheel arch or a 1300 under the rear strap gets the cg right for gliding (about 7mm behind the marks). It does pitch up with the motor on, so you need to hold forward elevator while climbing, or mix in some elevator to throttle, or ideally tilt the motor down a tiny bit.
Do you still recommend the 2000 over the 1600? Just about to pull the trigger! I heard the 1600 might be better with onshore wind slopes? Appreciate advice. Thank you
@@AndrewNewton thabks. Pulled the trigger on a 2m! Thanks to your channel! Haha. I’m actually looking forward to learning full house settings etc. all new to me. Flaps look very useful on a 2m
When you place the camera on the wing tip, do you fully balance something on the other wing tip? How closely do you need to get the CG laterally? The new P2K V2 ticks all the requirements for a great sloper. ;-D
Good question, yes I do tape a Mobuis sized weight on the other wingtip (underneath) but I also had the recording cam up on a foam block which caused more drag on the left side. It flew terribly like that, reduced lift, more drag, pulling to the left, but worth it for the viewpoint.
Thanks Andrew, I've managed to send two 2.6 mtr gliders into the dirt because I didn't set the lateral CG. My footage of the rudder and ailerons pointing in one direction while the model flies into the other is quite disconcerting, (including the inevitable crash).
Nice video. Love this phoenix. How’s about rudder authority on V2, comparing with the old p2000? What are the down sides of this version in your opinion if there is any? Nice hand catch btw.
Hi Andrew, enjoying your videos for a little while now. Would you be interested in teaching someone how to fly a wing in person? Just finished a s800 build but havent maidened it yet. Fly multirotors but want to get into wings. Cheers!
Hi Shannon, I'm happy to help with advice but not teaching in person. I'm booked up with projects and not enough time at the moment. S800 is a feisty little wing, not the best to learn with. Have you flown fixed wing before?
Hope you don’t mind, (they tell me copying is the purest form of flattery), I’ve bought a can of White Knight Squirts fluoro pink, and painted my Dreamflight Weasel Trek slope wing. Wing tips and vert Stab. (Can’t beat em, join em) small stripe of black each side below.
I’m enjoying watching your slope soaring videos Andrew
Thanks 👍
I always love the sloping. Man, I envy your flying locations.
Locations plural, multiple slope locations, fields, etc, its obscene.
My favorite powered glider...can't wait to fly by it in the next few days!
Awesome! She flies effortlessly.
she really floats on light wind, lovely little glider. Might try to get my brother one for Christmas before they disappear forever
What a sweet flyer! Loved it!
Great plane Andrew . I like it 😁

Great choice, a classic glider. Only down side is if you bonk it in nose first you do damage to the motor
@@AndrewNewton yeah, i would expect that..thanks mate.
Same . . I should have really got back into it ,with the ranger ..but oh well
You make it look so easy. Well done. Yes, i may have to get this....
I think it's easier than normal flying
Fantastic video. As soon as I can get a budget worked out I'm blue yonder bound.
Very nice! Looks like one of those planes you want to keep around for a very long time to come ;-) Happy Sloping!
Exactly, tough and capable
Wonderful video. Great plane and one very happy person. Love it!
Yes lovely day out
Another belter Andrew, and another great catch!
Ha it took about 3 attempts to get it down nicely
Why we always happy to see this?? It's a a great hobby, for sure, Thanks for sharing Andrew,!
King of greets ,Henk from holland.
Greetings from Geelong Henk
Really enjoyed the wing cams and it was kinda cool to hear the servo working the ailerons👍🏻
Yes I liked it too. My normal onboard cam was flat so I used the hatcam Mobius with external mic in a mini wind muff. Worked so well I might use it again.
Lovely! Thanks!!
top Video and a Perfect model
I agree.
Perfect, Andrew. :)
that was a glorious look from the wing.
Didn't fly too well with the camera out there, I did balance it but not enough
Excellent work ! Thanks
I am happy I ordered this cause I was not sure if I should chose the phoenix v2 2000 or the 2400. But you give me a good relief thank you
P2K V2 is one of the best, you chose well
Beautiful!
Beautiful day...that thing loves the Slope Andrew...:)
Sure does, a born sloper
Lovely flight, not so keen on those rocks. I know where I would be "landing".
great flier. and i didnt see much wing-flex. it appears to have a pretty solid frame.
Beautiful mate well done
You have some nice playgrounds Andrew. I have tracked your maiden/thermal playground down too. They both look lots of fun. I fly in the Heathcote valley in Christchurch. The hills can make an easterly wind a bit interesting at times. I have yet to attempt sloping. Will be interesting!!!
Coastal hills are the easiest but hills are good too if you have a clear area out front.
Urban Area on the hills. The sports grounds we fly out of are in the lee in an easterly, our prevailing wind, ok in light conditions, interesting when the wind gets up what with my lousy pilot skills :)
Wow it slopes, who would have thunk that, haha. The joy of flight.
This and the V1 would have to be the best cheap foamy slopers available. Might need the rubber band wing mod for rough slope landings.
Already done the rubber band mod on my V1 1600. Thanks for your interest Andrew.
nice video
Thanks for this.
I love it! Nice catch too!
You are not wrong Steven
nice plane and sloping, it's relaxing to watch because we don't have to worry about the sand! in the works! haha great vid Andrew :-)
Ha that's why I set up pure slopers without a motor, sand is not good for bearings at all
Loverly!!!
Lindo planador!!!
I also enjoy!

Good question, I need a decent breeze to test them side by side.
Great stuff Andrew.. but I notice there is a recurring problem with the prop bolt/pin popping out of its housing causing the blade to stick out while the other folds back. Brian Phillips found this problem during his video aswell.
No problem with props at the field but the beach sand is the issue here.

I do need crow! ASW28 doesn't match unfortunately, narrower wing.

After watching your video I decided to sell my old Phoenix 2.6mt and put the bucks towards a new one . Cheers
P. Evo 2,6m fly very well, I would not sell it...
Very nice video and wonderful flying site! Thanks for sharing these beautiful images.

Oh yes. Perfect motorless sloper ruclips.net/video/jGfH9BUWmGE/видео.html
@@AndrewNewton great video, thanks! So you bought it and removed all the engine gear? Does it come with a nose to be attached in the place of prop+spinner? Thank you for your time!
This one was the kit version and yes it does come with a spare nose cone but I made a soft foam one.
Another great video
Always a joy to watch you slope Andrew! Are you using the Mobius for the wing cam? Thanks :)
Probably was then. I use the Runcam2 4K now

I have a 1600 for mad sloping in any wind and a 2m for thermals and big sloping. If I had to choose it would be the 2m
@@AndrewNewton thabks. Pulled the trigger on a 2m! Thanks to your channel! Haha. I’m actually looking forward to learning full house settings etc. all new to me. Flaps look very useful on a 2m
Excellent, flaps work well on this one
Ordered one of these from Hobbyking after seeing your video Andrew. I thought the Phoenix 759-3 with the 2400mm wingspan was a bit crazy.
Yes good choice, this is my favourite FPV iNav cruiser. The 2400 is just too big and not as good at gliding really

Oh I can just imagine the horror!
Just looking at the video,, there might be a little DS site in the dunes to your left..
Ranger flys well I might get one for light slope days.
I have tried DS here, not successfully
Looking like a great sloper Mr A. Could you still achieve the CG without the motor and without adding weight?
My guess is yes it would be possible, because the battery could slide right forward to the firewall, and it can handle CG back about 10mm
That would be interesting, and possibly a whole motor and esc lighter. If you have a suitable receiver pack that is.
do you tape the leading edge of the wing or do the come pre-taped ? Or will they leave that for the v3 :)
I added the tape myself, I do that to any planes I like
Good job andy
I'm thinking about getting one of these just trying to decide which wing size
2000 for sloping and thermalling, 1600 for fun sloping and general flying, 2400 for long distance FPV and big batteries.
Every pair of goggles I’ve owned has come with a headphone jack. I never understood why until I watched this video.
Nice video. Love this phoenix. How’s about rudder authority on V2, comparing with the old p2000? What are the down sides of this version in your opinion if there is any? Nice hand catch btw.
Bigger and more effective rudder on the V2. Downsides? The fuselage plastic may be more brittle (untested) and it's a little heavier and fatter.
Sh$t yeah mate awesome. Cheers
Which would you say is the better all around plane, the Phoenix 2k v2 or the new Ranger 2k?
All round would be the Ranger, much bigger battery capacity. The Phoenix is best as a glider
Awesome! Put my plane in the ground this morning, bent my propshaft, no flying for me for a while :(
Ouch
i have ordered one, i am whaiting for it ;) it's seem to be very very cool!!! i am ssooo exiting ;)
One of the best foamy gliders, have fun
How's it going, Andrew? I accidentally busted up my prop on this plane, so maybe cheapskate me should turn her into the sloping phoenix!
Do it Nick. Makes a perfect sloper.
Hi Andrew,
Gorgeous skies. Fine sloper. :-)
Is this location further up the shore than your normal sloping site?
Yes this is the SE wind site, a few km west of 40W
Nice
Very nice video, I reordered this one, out of stock so must be good. Did you mod anything or is this totally stock?
No mods, stock everything
Would you recommend this or the Phoenix S 1600?
I prefer the V2 but nothing wrong with the 1600. Note that with the big prop the 1600 is 2S only
@@AndrewNewton okay thank you!
Where abouts in Victoria, Andrew??
Between Barwon Heads and Breamlea
Are those the same wings as on the Ranger 2000?
Very good question, I will check.
Yes they are. The foam is swappable. Used my Ranger2000 wings and tailplane on mine because I am too lazy to set up another set of servos.
