  • I was in the mood to build something basic and simple and for the longest time I've been intrigued by the idea of making a mini Japanese toolbox. The lid system is so clean and ingenious! I used a resawed 2x4 for wood, and I also added a bit of leather to the wedge.

Love the build. Reminds me of those wooden puzzles the way the lid is secured.
Interested to know if anyone has used a slight taper on the edge of the wedge so it doesn't lift

It's is funny how the traditional Japanese tool box was humble, utilitarian and nailed together, yet the tools inside were some of the finest in the world that make amazing joinery.

Oh I like the leather pull tab.

I thought the chiseled resess would be for the thickness of the leather.

Very nice. I like that you made it from construction lumber, yet your end product looks quite refined. Thanks for sharing.

It's neat isn't it how "nice" framing lumber can be.

Seeing you do all the joinery, reminds me so much of watching Norm Abram on New Yankee Workshop, but yours has "LEATHER ACCENTS", a true Linn original touch right there 👍. Perfect.
