Kal El Since they're not open-wheeled cars, they can easily be just "inches" (bleh, imperial measures...) apart. Same goes to Blancpain, WTCR and so on. I find absolutely nothing interesting in NASCAR, apart from one or two exceptional minutes.
I went to my first F1 race at Long Beach 1976, yes that year… Aside from the spectacle, the sounds of the various engines changed me forever. Remarkable.
I think this is the only video I will ever compliment.. that has this kind of quality. Man.. seeing them fly by like that, all of them... one after the other... amazing.
You do realise there were turbos up until the 90's . They sounded as they sound now . The screaming F1's were only around for a relatively short period in the life of the F1 championship so in fact it isn't "when F1 was F1"
@@bwoolno This is not actually correct. The modern F1 concept is usually accepted to have begun in 1950. Supercharged 1.5 liter engines ran alongside 4.5 liter normally aspirated engines. But the high revving, (screaming)normally aspirated engine became the standard engine with a few exceptions until 1977 and the Renault RS01. But both the 1.5 turbo and normally aspirated 3.0 liter engines ran together. A 1.5 turbo did not win a race until 1979. Both engines ran together through the 1984 season. The 1.5 turbo era ended in 1987 with Prost's win in Japan. The dominance of the turbo engines was only for 10 years. So, in fact F1 cars have run turbos for much less time than normally aspirated engines. Not only that, the 1.5 turbo engine sound of that era was MUCH different and MUCH louder than the current hybrid/turbo formula. The cars of this era were making in excess of 1000bhp in race trim and estimates of 1400bhp in qualifying trim. The 1.5 liter turbos most definitely screamed.
