    I've bought a lot of gym equipment where premium products don't really offer that much more noticeable improvement from more budget-friendly options, but the Pepins are the one thing that is definitely worth the splurge. They're so much better than everything else out there and will last a lifetime. Like Coop, I actually prefer them to fixed dumbbells. The knurling is better and I actually love grabbing the rails for some exercises like overhead tricep extensions. If anyone is on the fence about getting these, just do it. You won't regret it at all.

    $200 per 20 pound expansion plate set (for each pair of dumbells, so 40 pounds in total). That means it's actually not any cheaper to buy the full weight all at once. This actually is a huge attraction for beginner/intermediate lifters who are starting lighter and are trying to decide between the highest weight and the lower/lowest weight set to start. I actually love that there's no discount for buying the full weight set compared to the cheaper set plus the additional plates!

    • @adamj2683
      @adamj2683 10 дней назад

      @@plmn93 the cages are minimal and won’t affect 98% of uses.
      You can put one selector at 20lb and one at 30lb to get it to 25lb quickly. Using irregular weight is actually helpful for our body in producing a greater stimulus to stabilizing. Plus 5lb more on one side is almost indistinguishable for many people (see that other guy’s review of these dumbbells or maybe it was the peppins).
      The ends are pretty flat and will only be resting on thigh momentarily, and increase mental toughness to have a bit of discomfort even if you feel it.
      Most people don’t mind needing a cradle to change the weight. Just put the cradle right next to your adjustable bench.
      I think it’s too tempting to think an item needs to be perfect to be great, but a lot of imperfections don’t really matter and can actually bring some benefits.

    I gotta say I am absolutely confused af. I have been researching for a couple of weeks now which adjustable dumbbell to buy, and every single one of your videos you absolutely swear by/endorse the nuobell dumbbells.
    Now the nuos look absolutely amazing and in a lot of your vids you mention how they look and feel just like regular dumbbells. These 'pepe' dumbbells do not at all look like normal dumbbells in fact they are somewhere between powerblocks and bowflex 1090s.
    So what's the deal here. Is this just a shameless plug or is there a reason the nuobells are no longer relevant - idk man. For me as the kids say - the math aint mathin.

    • @shane250
      @shane250 5 месяцев назад

      You are mostly right. Price per performance, Nuobells are a better deal per lb. But they are not as durable (have plastic parts, and a short warranty period).
      As he mentioned already, best bang for the $$$ is Nuobell. Best overall if money is no issue are these ones. Think about it like a Ferrari and a Corvette. Of course a Ferrari is faster, but not at the same ratio to price. It cost 5X more money, but a Corvette does 0-60 in 3 sec, and a Ferrari 2.4 sec. For it to be the same price\performance ratio, the Ferrari should do 0.6 sec (3 seconds divided by 5)...which is physically impossible.

    • @GarageGymReviews
      @GarageGymReviews  5 месяцев назад +3

      I didn’t know these were coming out and at this price. Now that they have, they’re likely going to replace NUOBELL at the top of my list. They have a cage, but it’s much smaller than Powerblock and they don’t feel offset, at least the Pepins don’t. And they’re likely going to be much more durable than Nuobells. - Coop

    I have some thoughts... I have the original Canadian Pepin's and they are great. I also own some fixed Rep dumbbells and they are fine for their price point. With that said, I hope Rep maintains the quality of the Pepin knurling because the Rep fixed dumbbells are not even close. I realize many people may not notice this, but I do. I like that the handle goes all the way to the plate on the Rep/Pepin version and that the handle is 10 lbs vs the original Pepins. I also like the all-black look, although the cerakote may not hold up as well as the nickel coating. I am very happy that the price point will be more attainable for more people, however, this drastically undercuts those of us who bought from Pepin in the secondary market as the Rep version is literally half the price. That's my only complaint which really doesn't matter until someone makes something better because I'm not selling my Pepins. 🤷‍♂😂

      I went with the Poweblock EXP 100's after watching Coop review them a few months ago. Just received them about 2 weeks ago. I'm happy with them. I've never been one to order something new on the market right away. I like to see how they actually perform in use for an extended period. Will the sliding mechanism for weight changes on these jam? I know Coop mentioned in the review that something in his Peppin's is stuck. Just waiting for more people to use them and review them a little more long term. If all looks good I may consider.

    Been wanting to upgrade my Bowflex 552s for like a year now. Constantly waffling on Snode, Nuobell, Rep Quickdraws, Trulap.... They all have some dealbreaker flaw... too bulky, not heavy enough, weird increments, no 5-lb increments, too fragile... I think these are the clear winner for only like $100 more for the 85 pounders. I don't need the 105s or 125s.... at least not in the near future, so I'm glad they can be upgraded as needed.

Then I saw Rep tease a new dumbbell and thought "interesting, but no way it goes as heavy as Pepins"--thinking they'd release a new version of their Rep Quick Draws. Holy smokes am I glad I waited when I saw the Collab. I saved $800! It would be really cool to see them reengineer the sliding pop pins so that there's only one slider now to adjust the weight instead of having to slide the pin on both sides. Nit picky, yes, but to me that's what reengineering the originals should look like.

  • @johndaddabbo9383
    @johndaddabbo9383 5 месяцев назад

    Coop, what do you make of this FAQ: "How quickly can you adjust the WEIGHT? -
    You can change weight very quickly -- even without the cradle, if you want to do drop sets. Just set
    the dumbbell down, press and slide the magnetic pop-pins, and then press them back into place." - IF this means not only being able to DROP weight, but then to INCREASE back to one's starting point without having to go navigate back to wherever one happens to place/store their cradles... this would be awesome (IMO) -OR- do the plates fall-over and therefore it is only DROP weight capable? -OR- do they maybe fall-over but then are very easily/quickly snapped back on WITHOUT having to return to the cradle to do so. This would still be awesome! What's your take?
