You can use it that way as well. There’s really no wrong way to use it. Whatever way you clean your dishes you can substitute the dish soap for this solid dish soap except in this dishwasher this isn’t good for that.
My husband just asked me a few days ago how to make my own dish detergent and I happened across your video by chance today 😊 thank you so much for the information!
I finally had time to make this and I LOVE IT!!! I used orange EO and tea tree in recipe No 2. I calculated how much $$$ I’ll save PLUS I can get rid of another plastic container in my household! Woop woop!
I made the first one, the other one couldn't find the scs on amazon. I didn't want to go all over the internet looking for just one ingredient. It came out just as good. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Awesome idea!!! You are an inspiration to all of us! You kicked started me again after being ill! Thanks for all you do for us! La Fille dela mer ROCKS!
I bought this at a farmer's market a couple months ago and absolutely LOVE it!! Only thing...we used it EVERYDAY (no dishwasher here) so it didn't last 6 months. This is so interesting and I just wish it was locally available and wish it could last longer!
Ariane, this is fantastic! You're a perfect soapmaker to help lead us into more ecological soapmaking! I love this. Thanks so much for caring for our environment! Hugz, Tree PS the mitten is called "pot holder" in English!
I saw this an immediately started researching. How this product has escaped my viewing all these years, I have no idea. Awesome product and I can’t wait to make it. Thank you!
In Kentucky USA, in the 1950's, we never bought dish detergent. We made simple lye soap and used it for everything requiring soap from dishes to hair. Mine doesn't lather as much as conventional soap, but cleans just fine. I still use it today. I don't have city water so I don't run it to rinse. I use 2 wash clothes; not nearly as complicated as it sounds. One I keep suds up for the initial lather/scrub of the dish. Then rather than let the suds wash out and dilute in my very hot dish water I lay it on the side of the sink and rinse the suds off partially. A pan of rinse water with a dash of vinegar has a second dish rag that I use to make sure the dish is thoroughly rinsed before putting it in the drain rack. It only takes a little while to get used to this method, saves me money and gives me a since of satisfaction knowing I have recycled and wasted very little.
I love watching your videos at night they are so soothing and calming and put me to sleep (in a good way) I also watch them during the day because your videos are so much more informative and raw than other soap makers! Keep up the great work from New Jersey!
You've put so much research into this so that I don't have to. You're amazing! Have you considering publishing an e-book? I would love to support you for sharing such wonderful information!
I bought this a couple of years ago with the special ceramic container and I loved the dish cake. I am so glad to have found the recipe you used, since it doesn't appear on your website.
You are really a jewel. I was just doing some research for a dish bar soap and your channel popped up ( since I watch you often I guess 🥰) I should have looked for you first!
Lesley Logbeck Marie is a personal friend and when I chatted with her about this she told me she had published a video of making similar product. Her version also looks awesome! I will surely give it a try too ♥️
My grandma used some kind of Castile soap or Marseille soap for many things around the house here in Europe. It was made in the region and I loved the smell. It was solid, of course.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to get some made up.....great time to find this. :) and you're doing an awesome job with English. I sure appreciate you speaking english for me.
The pottery containers will be a great companion for your cake vaisselle. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I can't wait to try it, especially since our dishwashing machine is broken. I see a lot of dishwashing in my near future. Never had a machine in my entire life but it was an old one given to us. Figured we'd try it. Didn't last long! Back to cleaning it is!
I made this, version 2, and it works amazingly well; we have very hard water that leaves a lot of spots. This cleaner leaves everything shining and like new. LOVE it. I do wonder, would SLS work in the version 2? I usually buy from Amazon and can't find SCS there and I want to avaid having to order from mulitple sources. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. Making xmas gifts to share!
Thank you, I've been wanting to do homemade laundry detergent for a while now. It is really expensive here in the States and there are so many good recipes out there! This looked very interesting, so another thing to add to my ever growing list!
In my country there have this kind of solid dish washer. I like to use them but my mom didn't. It's maybe takes time to lather compared to the liquid version, but I like the scratchy texture when cleaning dishes.
Love it Ariane! I read Marie's post too and was very interested. There are quite a few different surfactants I want to try. Thanks so much for the recipes. I also have these ingredients on hand :)Jen
That looks like the process for making hot processed soap, the videos I've seen have the soap makers using crock pots to "melt" their soaps. That texture looks exactly like the texture of the hot processed soaps I've seen, theirs might be a little chunkier.
Ariane, how fun and helpful and eco-friendly! I have been trying to find something along these lines as well. Thank you, thank you! Very excited to try this and perhaps add it to my line as well! :-)
I can remember my mum telling me that they used a cake of sunlight soap for washing the dishes in the 60s, it was the same soap for washing clothes and washing yourself you just had different bars
This was AWESOME -- thank you so much for taking the time to describe everything so thoroughly! I'm very excited to try this for myself, and I'm looking forward to more videos (just subscribed). We need more zero-waste products in the world!
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing! really, we need to improve this planet. One suggestion: If you use a confectionery bag to pack the product, it can make the job easier.
Hi Ariane: I saw on one post that you should add a preservative, since it contains water. Did you add a preservative or do you feel you don't need one.
I call the mittens, pot holders. I need to order the noodles and make this recipe. I’ve been looking for a good recipe and my parents live me and the like the bubbles.
Hi Ariane, love your solid dish soap. If I wanted to make the dish soap without a container would I need to adjust the recipe and if yes would you share how. thank you
Hey Ariane, I prepared variation no 2., and I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe, it washes much better than the usual bio liquid soap that I'll never ever buy again :-D
Hi there community. How long did it take for you bar or cakes to set up? Mine have set up enough to take out of the mold but are still soft. I'm presuming 4 to six weeks on the shelf before use of course but other cold process soaps that I've made in the past have set up quite hard before 48 hours. However this is my first time using coco sulfate
Is a preservative needed, and how would it be added? Is it easy to mix into the mixture? Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe. Making for xmas for family.
May I ask why if it contains water, is there not a preservative? Can this product go bad as your dipping a wet sponge in it? I love this idea and I will be trying it .
Susan Thordsen this is a solid product with a very low and acidic ph. It is very unlikely to grow mold. You could add a preservative if you wish but I never had a problem
I made a double batch so I could share it with friends. I made my own sodium carbonate, but when I added the vinegar the mixture bubbled up quite a lot, so I must not have accomplished a pure washing soda. The suds are lovely, but they don't last more than a couple of minutes. Any suggestions? I scented mine with lavender and tea tree oil, by the way. Smells clean and fresh. :)
As someone who is allergic is coconut and its byproducts, many soaps are quite risky to use, so making them is wonderful. Can you recommend anything to replace the SCI and/or the SCS?
Does the Vinegar need to be distilled as well? I know that Vinegar is used a preservative and does have disinfecting properties as well. I assume that since you are using White Vinegar for it cleaning and disinfecting properties as well as a preservative.
Hi Ariane, I wonder whether it needs some sort of preservatives as we are going to use wet sponge to dab on it. If not, will it crate germs or bacteria? Thank you.
Wasn’t sure how you use it, do you just take a little hunk out and put it in water? If so about how much?
Reflexology52 Welsh you simply take a wet sponge or scrubby and rub it on top of the “cake” and then use it to clean! 🧼
You can use it that way as well. There’s really no wrong way to use it. Whatever way you clean your dishes you can substitute the dish soap for this solid dish soap except in this dishwasher this isn’t good for that.
Thanks for sharing and making this great video. Curious to see which version you like best?
My husband just asked me a few days ago how to make my own dish detergent and I happened across your video by chance today 😊 thank you so much for the information!
Thank you so much for such a detailed video and generously sharing the recipe!
I finally had time to make this and I LOVE IT!!! I used orange EO and tea tree in recipe No 2. I calculated how much $$$ I’ll save PLUS I can get rid of another plastic container in my household! Woop woop!

Thank you Lori, I appreciate and hope you are back on your feet. :-)
I bought this at a farmer's market a couple months ago and absolutely LOVE it!! Only thing...we used it EVERYDAY (no dishwasher here) so it didn't last 6 months. This is so interesting and I just wish it was locally available and wish it could last longer!

GodzHarleyGirl Studio oh thanks! Hehe Pot Holder! I knew it would be funny to keep this in the video
So glad you actually shared the recipe
I saw this an immediately started researching. How this product has escaped my viewing all these years, I have no idea. Awesome product and I can’t wait to make it. Thank you!
Susan P when I discovered, I had the exact same thought! 🤦♀️

Hi there, just wanna thank you for sharing your recipe with me. I made recipe no. 2 and it turned out wonderful! Thank you so much!
I love watching your videos at night they are so soothing and calming and put me to sleep (in a good way) I also watch them during the day because your videos are so much more informative and raw than other soap makers! Keep up the great work from New Jersey!
Love this. I’m trying to be zero/low waste and I didn’t know what I could do for dishes besides buying in bulk so this is great I’d love to try it
Also coconut oil bar soap works well!!!
I have never heard of dish cake. I've been looking for stuff that's more eco friendly. I am very interested in this.
Love this idea!!😁💗 I love mason jars! They are very versatile!🧼👏🏼
As someone who regularly knocks over the bottle of dish soap (either partially or fully open) I think this is a brilliant!
You are such a dear sweetheart of a person. Your smile brightens the day!

Actually, I found it once I knew to call it dish cake!
You're so relaxing to watch! I'd love to make soap for myself since I'm so sensitive to product.
I'm going to add this to my repertoire. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
You are really a jewel. I was just doing some research for a dish bar soap and your channel popped up ( since I watch you often I guess 🥰) I should have looked for you first!

My grandma used some kind of Castile soap or Marseille soap for many things around the house here in Europe. It was made in the region and I loved the smell. It was solid, of course.
So interesting. How would u describe the smell? Maybe had some herbs in it?

Thank you so much for sharing - this is a great sounding product and I can't wait to try. ❤
Love your videos Ariane! This one is so timely as I would like to make a dish soap for some hikers going on a long trail. Thank you!
Laurie Hall oh I bet this would be very useful on a hike! I would maybe pack it in the smaller mason jars.
Ariane Arsenault yes, a smaller container for sure as I bet wright will be a factor for their packs. Thanks again!
This is almost like the solid makeup brush cleaners. This is a neat concept! Thanks for sharing 😊
Awesome product. Thanks for the recipe and links.
It's called a pot holder. I love your videos.

Merci pour le partage de la recette ! J'adore ta chaîne, toujours plein de bonne idée.

Such a great idea. Thank you for sharing your recipe. 😊
Yes! I want one right now!!
Love it Ariane! I read Marie's post too and was very interested. There are quite a few different surfactants I want to try. Thanks so much for the recipes. I also have these ingredients on hand :)Jen

renato novas thanks, I have confectioners bags but I am very quick with the spoon! 😃 years and years of practice!
this is great! I wonder... can I use it without gloves?
Beautiful!
This was great! I love this. And pot holder is what we call them in Missouri.
Found it Thank you so much going to try this today.
Hi Ariane: I saw on one post that you should add a preservative, since it contains water. Did you add a preservative or do you feel you don't need one.
Love this!
These are awesome! Do you not need a preservative? Thanks!
Pot Holder. Love it💞
In English we call it a hot pad or the glove an oven mitt. Thanks for the great video!
Wonderful!
I call the mittens, pot holders. I need to order the noodles and make this recipe. I’ve been looking for a good recipe and my parents live me and the like the bubbles.
Thank u soooo much for the recipe i will make it nd definitely going tag u on social media lots of love😘😘
Hi Ariane, love your solid dish soap. If I wanted to make the dish soap without a container would I need to adjust the recipe and if yes would you share how. thank you
I was looking at the % of ingredients and they total over 100%, unless I miscalculated? Enjoy your videos...Thank You!
I will like one in the pottery! Will you be making refill dish cakes for the pottery then? 🤗
love this idea. would the powder be the same measurement and the same process to make? thanks :)
Love it!
Axion solid dish paste exist in Mexico since 1971 till this day, it is very popular.
Hey Ariane, I prepared variation no 2., and I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe, it washes much better than the usual bio liquid soap that I'll never ever buy again :-D
How long it lasts?
I want to try this, if it is available tomorrow!!
Thank you sister
Hot pad or pot holder is what I’ve always called it.
That’s amazing!!
This poor planet is way too full of useless plastic :(
💝💖💘💔👏👏👏👏 Exactly why my own customers would love such a soap! Thank you Ariane and Alice!
beautiful video! would i be able to use sodium bicarbonate instead of sodium carbonate?
Hi there community. How long did it take for you bar or cakes to set up? Mine have set up enough to take out of the mold but are still soft.

Hello from Greece!!!
Can we use it in dishwasher? And how much

Jesse Bergeron I don’t have an alternative without coconut derived surfactants.. there are other types of surfactants so I am sure this is possible
Hey there, I am wondering if I was to leave the paste to dry in a silicon soap mould, would it come out nicely once it's dry? Thanks!!
You are so awesome .... Thanks for sharing the recipe will definitely try it out
I would love a lavender and mint or rosemary version.
How solid are these when they dry? Do they need to be in a container at all? Thanks for these recipes!
They are pretty solid, I now have a container free version sold in a block!

You sold out of dish cake! I'm very interested in this product and have not seen it made elsewhere.
