The tuning forks are for verifying the calibration of the radar. We had to fill out an affidavit after every speeding ticket saying we had verified the calibration at the beginning of our shift. A lot of smaller departments didn't do annual calibrations so people could beat a ticket in court by a asking for the department to provide the proof of calibration which they usually didn't have.

I hope I will soon be healthy again and have been unable to work for two years due to the illness, but I hope I can own a Crown Vic again in my life 🥴

So what you thought was the brain fit the customer signals, it wasn't. The one you said, what's the heck is that, is the brain. The opticom is mounted in the truck because there was probably a strobe in the light bar. So they hook the head in the trunk and hook the light bar strobe to that.
