  • Harman Accentra Insert distribution blower wasn't blowing strong. This video shows how to do it by yourself and how to access it.
**Tip only pull the unit out about half way so you don't pull the entire unit off its rails. Only pull out as much as you need to tilt it over. This way when you tilt it back you are still on the rails.

Thanks for the comment! You can do it! Pain in the ass yes but once you get it out and tip it onto something your good.

That's a way different design than the one I have, mine has two squirrel cage blowers right in the back of the stove, two wires, two bolts for each one and out they come, I clean them once a year. I also made steel tracks for pulling my stove out, it has tiny little steel wheels underneath to roll on.
Nice video, though, I'm sure it will help many.👍

Take a bow Sir, you observed, you diagnosed and you tested your solution - PLUS you shared your findings with the world. This also is science!

Most people will never attempt to clean that blower because it's a pain to access, and they'll wait until it stops completely and pay a few hundred dollars for someone to come and install a new blower motor because they either aren't getting good air circulation, or it stops running completely. I have that same stove and don't have the luxury of a motorcycle jack but managed to clean it another way. I tip the "front" of my stove up using several blocks of wood with a 2x4 as a lever until I can get the front up high enough to access the underside of the stove. That allows me to get into that fan with an old toothbrush and pull all the debris out with a vacuum right under the fan, sucking up the dust. I continue turning the impeller with the brush, pulling out debris, going round and round until the toothbrush comes out mostly clean. It's not as good as looking right into the fan but it works good enough so you get good distribution of the hot air.

Good video but you can improve it by filming this in the landscape mode to fill the screen so that people can see the details more. That contraption you have to tilt and lift the harmon looks like a specialty tool which of course would cost to much to own. In fact this harmon is painful to maintain as I have just about giving this up to sell it as I cannot handle how to do maintenance on it. I'm only 130 pounds ... can't do it. Any other suggestions short of getting 3 friends to help. If you have any ideas to sell this insert, let me know.

Hey Sam thanks for your input. The jack you can find pretty cheap online no more than 120 bucks. For that you'd get your moneys worth after using it one time. I agree it is difficult to maintain when trying to do it yourself without paying someone an arm and a leg. What I showed is that it can be done..
My suggestion would be that there are many Facebook groups for pellet stoves if you absolutely wanted to get rid of it.

Thanks Matt for getting back to me on my questions...yeah...sort of painful in doing the work and too costly to hire.

Not sure if you gave up already but most of the work is in pulling and tilting the unit. The rest of the maintenance can be acomplished by a highschooler. If you have any goodwill with your neighbors, it might only cost you a case of beer, I did it with my brother and we are both not-so-wimpy geeks. Pulling is hardest since this unit does not have the wheels they fitted on newer models; tilting is mostly common sense with gravity doing all the work - I used two car jack stands, blocks of wood would accomplish the same purpose. Then its a couple of 10-12 mm sockets and you are good to go for at least a year possibly more if you have a relatively debris free living space.@@samsno3667

Great video! Where is the fines box that is supposed to be cleaned yearly? Thanks

There is an access door on the right hand side by the auger. There are two wing nuts. I pull that off and use a vacuum and it clears it right out.

Wow, what model is your stove? Was thinking of a Harman insert and we have 3 dogs!

Hey Kevin this is a Harman Accentra. Awesome stove just gotta keep in mind many stoves pull from the bottom for their air. So if you have that in mind they make some pull out rails that make this maintenance a heck of a lot easier. Depending on if its on the ground or like fireplace insert that's a foot or so off the floor. This is basically without the stuff that makes it easier haha. I'm a diy guy to an extent, if you hire someone to do.this then I guess you don't think about it if you know what I mean. But its going to cost an arm and a leg. 👍👌

Very useful video. How was it getting it back down and on the rails? I assume the weight is mainly on the front, so it was not too hard? Were you able to clean the fan well? What did you use?
Edit: what about the vent? Did you have to disconnect it too?

    • @ridehonda365
      @ridehonda365  2 года назад

@ lowing it back down isn't bad. Like you said most of the weight is in the front. Key is not to pull it out to far so when your putting it back down your already on the rails. Did not have to disconnect the vent mine butts right up to it.

And getting to the fan was very simple this way. I was able to peel away the hair with my fingers. It was so much once I got a piece it all came off as I spun it.
