Definitely went as I thought since ST nailed the G1 Blitzwing. DX9 though deserves credit for creating the best Blitzwing to this point for 7 years. It’s really too bad they no longer exist because 3rd party was way better with them involved. Really hoping we finally get the FT Blitzwing to have the ultimate showdown. Another great verses by TM Reviews!
@@sebyt2062 They haven't really put out anything new in a long time, but my local reseller is still getting in reissues of some of their old figures sometimes, most recently their Omega Supreme abiut 4-5 months ago. Not sure what the deal is there.
@@Jayce_Alexander2 months later but anyway DX9 are the same guys as unique toys, they started doing movie toys, the figures started selling like water so they put all their focus on the movie based side of things only doing reissues of their older G1 stuff For what it seems they're going to revive DX9 as "DX9-mini", probably trying to appeal to legends class collectors So yeah, I don't think we will ever see another G1 masterpiece figure from these guys
From what I’ve researched in years past, Gewalt was purposely more stylized to fit the more Dreamwave aesthetics, especially the head sculpt, and the more bulk design. And this was a time where Toon aesthetics was definitely not as important as it is in today’s collecting realm. In my opinion both bots are a must have for different reasons.
Great video, loving my Star Toy. This comparison shows the evolution of 3rd party, from the more stylized look of the older figures to the more toon accurate look of today. As a newer collector I definitely prefer the toon accurate approach, but appreciate the stylized look of years past.
Went the way I knew TM would go, being a super Tooner. ;-) DX9 Blitzy is still, easily, a better figure in my book (bulk, detail, clever/fun transformation, detail, updated G1, and detail). Star Toys gets props on the tank mode though... kudos on that! For the Tooners, this seems a solid choice.
Great comparison. Can't deny the cartoon accuracy of Star Toys but, like you said, DX9 is intimidating. Even his box is intimidating, Gewalt looks ready to start a war and take over the world.
The truth is, both are very good figures, obviously the passing of the years in star toys engineering is noticeable, and it looks very good in its 3 modes (to be honest, in jet mode I prefer the dx9, I prefer it over cartoon style). Personally, if I didn't have the dx9 (which by the way came out to me at a very good price about 3 years ago, I paid 100 dollars with everything and sent it to Mexico) without a doubt I would go for the new type, but having it already, I don't see the case to change my blitzwing. greetings. 👍
Yeah, having picked up two Gewalts for about $100 each, I still like them in bot and plane modes over this new one. I still might get it to have in tank mode as I think the Gewalt version is ok but this new one has a better tank mode.
Great review, 👍🏽 and I agree for a figure that old from DX9 it still looks good today. But for sure ST wins hands down looks great! I will say if you want a non g1 look and stylized Blitzwing DX9 is a good option.
I know it was already a slaughter but you did not mention the internally stored missiles that ST-01 has in accessories or gimmicks. Did you factor that into your rankings and if not would it have been enough to change the score in either category?
ST-01 really nailed the toon look hands down, even with FT render of -21 coming next year , they kinda went with real world design for the alt modes. This guy still looks good in all form matching the toon design. And he is up for orders here (Malaysia) around 100 bucks reissue. Lol, itake back on FT, seems to have redisigned more to the Toon version haha.
I do love the way Gewalt looks like a large bruiser that can ****** you up with ease, but I never really did like those legs very much due to the plane fin having to wrap around the ball peg. Wish they'd figured out something with the original test figure that didn't have the purple fin. And WOW did this remind me why I rarely ever touch things in US-based stores... I got Lightning for $115.
Gerwalt was a great Blitzwing for his time, and I m going to keep him and display him now as a jet. Star toys is bot til FT makes him my tank display. Cheers on a fun comparison!
@@TMReviews if you considering Chinese price, just wait for several months, ST going to be on sale for 50% cheaper😊 it’s what happened to most of the figs made by the same designer.
I love cartoon accuracy so it's Star Toys 100%. I've been holding out for a Fans Toys version of Blitzwing but, I'll probably breakdown and just buy this guy as Blitzwing is my favorite triple changer
Yeah, definitely. That's one of the reasons I can't watch the original cartoon and I was 11 when it came out but I just can't put on the nostalgia goggles to overlook all its flaws. The movie is still awesome though.
I have Gewalt, Ditka, and Lightning is on his way. Even though Ditka is more cartoon accurate, Gewalt is my favorite of the two. Ditka's too top heavy to put him in any interesting poses. I'm looking forward to replacing him with the more posable Lightning, and I'll probably put Ditka in one of his vehicle modes. As for Gewalt, he's still a great figure, even seven years later, so he's not going anywhere. I like how DX9 did G1 characters with their own flare back then. Gewalt is still recognizably a G1 Blitzwing, just in a different style.
I still think the Dx9 one is better, especially in aesthetic. He's still very G1 accurate, while not being a slave to that style and looking boring like the StarToys one. I love the modernized G1 look of modern mainline and old Takara Mp and Ft and the Dx9 one definitely fits in there.
Star Toys definitely created the most accurate and clean looking Blitzwing so far. I think a coat of paint would REALLY have helped a lot to give him more of a premium feel. In spite of the fact that Star Toys is an incredibly well done bot if you want screen accuracy (and I feel it has good alt modes, and a decently fun transformation to boot) I do feel the DX9 looks more interesting in bot mode, even in spite of its age. It's kind of a moot point ultimately, considering the DX9 is no longer available in my neck of the woods, so I went with Star Toys, and I am quite happy with my purchase. A quality figure for a very competitive price - about half of FT Thomas!
I have dx9 it just has more presence far more interesting intimidating the startoys is just bland toon accurate in my opinion is not always best yeah dx9 tank mode is crap but jet and bot mode are far more interesting than startoys i prefer my masterpiece to be between semi realistic and toon i got my dx9 for £60 on ebay very happy with it.

Glad you enjoyed it, is your name Lamont? Where does the screen name come from
@@TMReviews Yeah it’s Lamont, a coworker once called me it once and I’ve been using it as a username here and there since.
Cool
Totally agree with the results. I will be keeping DX9 for that awesome jet mode.
I may have to check the Star Toys out. One can always use more then one version of a triple changer.
For sure
Star toys really nailed it at its price point. I’m glad I got it. That dx9 jet mode inaccurate to g1 or not, looks really good. Great comparison!
Thanks
I have to be honest and say I love the stylized look of the DX9 over the star toys. Star toys looks great tho but I don’t think I would swap figures

Another gimmick on the DX9 is that the tank barrel can TF to a sniper rifle.
The wheels in the treads on the tank mode of the ST-01 rotate.
Great comparison.
I'd be tempted to get the DX9 for the jet mode alone. Looks great!
The foxbat really looks sharp

Hmm, I didn't think about that as a gimmick but you are right, I probably would have tied them on gimmicks with that
@@TMReviewsDX9 also has the ability to turn the tank cannon into a sniper rifle as a gimmick however.
Rotating tread wheels on ST-01.
They basically tie out here.

I kinda miss when figures were more stylized. The G1 designs always feel flat to me since their designs were meant to be easy to draw and animate.

Love my dx9 blitzwing its just so much more in my book star toys is fine for toon accurate but thats not what i personally go for.
Even though i display my figs in robot mode, i'll take dx9 cause im a sucker for realistic alt modes (especially jets)
I think fanstoys will have a hard time beating this one. Still keeping my dx9 though.
It probably will... but it would be another half-decade before it comes out.
