      As an amateur at pottery I feel your pain. I stepped on the pedal while removing one of my plates (blobs really) from the wheel and it did that floppy thing before dislodging and going into the moat thing

    The potter's wheel is such a simple and efficient ancient tool, it's easy to see how it inspired the creation of lathes.

      I’m in a ceramics class as of now and I’ve done some work on the wheel before, it’s very hard and you need a lot of strength to not have the clay push you around. If you are interested in trying I definitely recommend it tho, it’s super fun!!!

    I truly have respect for you pottery is much more harder than it looks here are some tips my teacher gave me tips:Don’t make it to thin or it’ll fall apart,keep it wet but not too wet or it’ll be to soft.That’s all I can remember but I hope your back is okay and you keep on going you did a great job

    If you were able to get a pottery wheel with studs so you can use a bat on it without grabbing your pottery, would you do that? or do you like what you have already and you don't mind grabbing your finish piece?

      I should really do that for some pieces but I like being able to pick individual pieces off without the use of batts, it means there's less faffing around but for some vessels I should get some studded batts.

      Find a community college class to learn the basics of tools and skill. Also could help with a connection to a kiln. The kiln is the thing that is out of reach for most novices

      Weighing it could help if you want a certain(estimated) size. Or because if you do it for a class sometimes it needs to be an exact weight
