Simply put, Mike Adams is a golf swing genius. I never thought it made sense to try to teach every person the same swing. Since determining that I was a "width" player, it has unlocked the vault to a lot of missing pieces in my swing. My ball striking has improved, and seems so much more effortless, allowing me to enjoy the game so much more. Also, I never had any idea that flaring your feet a certain way could have such a huge impact on squaring the club.

Extra marks for Jonathon doing all of these tasks blindfolded.

As a senior golfer this video is so valuable. I'll try these fundamentals out in my practice sessions. By the way to my admittedly untrained eye it looks to me like Jon Rahm is a width player.

I have been playing golf for almost 20 years. I have taken lessons and pretty much just been frustrated by the instruction I received. I learned to hit a ball in the same manner as hitting a baseball 'up the middle'…and managed to get my index down to 6.5 The LAWS of Golf for a 'width' player (Me) have helped me tremendously in just a short time after watching it. I am hitting the ball more solidly, more consistently, and further than i have over my entire career. No instructor has ever given me instruction for a 'big guy' to swing the club…and this video addresses me perfectly. I wish i had seen this 20 years ago. The simple acts of dropping the right foot back, flaring my feet, and having the correct posture for a 'large frame' have had such an impact for the better. Thanks for posting this video. I don't know who originally made this, but it would be well worth re-making it with modern HD cameras. I'd buy them.

So glad to hear that this helped you. I've heard from several people here and at 4GEA.com who have had success with the WIDTH model. Mike Adams, TJ Tomasi and Jim Suttie were the brains behind the LAWS of the Golf Swing. Mike Adams is still very active on his website and has some great information there.

Thanks Parker. I will check that out. I have re-incorporated the Whippy Tempomaster 7 iron back into practice…and this club with the Width drills/swing has DRASTICALLY improved my game. I have gone from struggling to break 90 to now knocking on the door of breaking 80. Distance is BACK. Accuracy is BACK. Width+Whippytempomaster=Crushing it.

Being honest, almost 90% of the ppls will be a width player due to the heavy chest workout and longtime sitting in the office : D

this makes a lot of sense for my physical type of build and range of motion with my body and limbs. glad this video came on youtube, thnx parker.

Mike Adams videos are by far the best golf instruction I have utilized. I've played golf for 16 years but his view of the width swing has simplified the game.
    Thanks again

The Width model has helped me to start to know what to do with my swing. Just a few questions though as I have gotten more in depth with it. An article called L.A.W.S. revisited claimed the width player takes it slightly inside and steepens the club to get it on plane. (an over the top move, but a correct over the top move.) This video recommends shallowing the club to get it in the slot. These parts seem contradictory or maybe I'm just not fully understanding it. For the downswing the video explains moving into the left hip (loading into it) and using the left as the turn axis. I've been studying Width players and Older larger Ian Woosnam claims his downswing is too turn the chest and open and close the door with his right hand. I also read an article of the width player (unknown author) Which states moving the left shoulder away from the face is the key downswing move. Just confused on the different info on the same swing model. Greatful and happy to have a prototype to work from though. Big thanks to the L.A.W.S. guys!

My God! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it! The blond haired guy is Owen Wilson, the actor! Right? OK, I'm just kidding. But it kind of looks like him.

This is certainly worth trying but I have an awful time hitting at the ball, locking my wrists at impact. "Pushing away" in the backswing is fine, but at some point in the downswing I would imagine the wrists have got to loosen up. I can't tell from this video at what point that is or what part the arms themselves play in the downswing.

What effect does bowed legs have on the swing? I'm a width player, this video has been super helpful!

After Martin Hall recommended the Laws of Golf on his show I bought the book. Your video on the width player was outstanding and spot on with the book. Do you have information on where you teach or have a golf school to attend. Thank you for your help.

Well, I wish I did! That's my dream, at least. The host of this video was Mike Adams, who wrote the book along with TJ Tomasi and Dr. Jim Suttie. Look him up, he's terrific.

Brilliant! It all makes sense to me as classical width player - both body build and 65+. Will bending over more influence shaft length, i.e. lead to a shorter shaft?

I would probably experiment with gripping down on the club.

Dude has a sway though, how do you not sway when turning your left shoulder behind the ball?

    • @ryandavidtrapasso
      @ryandavidtrapasso 6 лет назад +3

Domo Lap I think this is in the book, I'll have to look -- but it's not a sway if it's the upper body and head floating; it's a sway when the (lower body) right hip gets weight out/juts beyond the outside of the right foot.

This is longer than 6 years I think he did this in 1992. But he has as more information has come out. I believe him and Terry Rowles will have a book out this year.

To be honest, I never got anywhere with these methods. They are just far too complicated for the average person to think about. See my videos from Toski and Flick if you want to keep it simple. Also check out Mike Malaska who worked with both of them.

i would have to disagree because i found the evaluation part of the tape most helpful in finding what i can and cannot do with my body and range of motion with my limbs. it steered me too the width type of swing tape and that info was very straight forward and easy to follow and perform. give the system a try.

Parker, this has worked wonders for me. After thirty years, finally instruction that fits my body type (short arms, thick chest). It's very simple, really. If you are built like Mike Adams, this may work for you. If you don't it certainly will not (but the L or A swing might). Thanks so much for posting!
