      The biggest Overlord of Methamphetamine in all of the world, a mastermind that constantly was 1 step ahead of the police. He managed to hit 12 key-witnesses in 3 prisons in a 2 minute timeframe, he killed Gustavo Fring, another mastermind who eluded the cops for years...by bombing a nursing home....ok also killed the notorious Hector Salamanca in the process, who actually was the bait for Fring: He used a Cartel-Don, to lure a Druglord into a trap! ... Even for hardened DEA-veterans, that's some sick stuff!
      To Hank's knowledge, this 'Heisenberg' was worse then Fring and his superlab, or that Juarez Cartel, combined....
      And he was right under his nose, all this time... his brother-inlaw, Walt the family-man..underpaid chemistry teacher, disabled son... literally THE last person on this planet, Hank would have suspected.

      No. If you are a scientist you'd understand that it is a process that you have to go through to verify the evidence. Until you sift through all the evidence, you must treat a hunch like it was a hypothesis. Hank was merely respecting due process.

      not really because it would be insanely easy for the audience to quickly suspect Walt. the reason the show works is because we the audience know, but Hank doesn’t suspect Walt because of familial ties and because he thinks walt is a good guy.

      @JaqDraco420 10 months ago +489

      And similarly, in the first season, when Walter was piecing together the broken plate, he was looking for reason not to kill Crazy 8. At first Walter refused to become some cold blooded outlaw, but he became Heisenberg eventually. It's a true tragedy.

      @Wicii-rp5duthe real tragedy is that a state employee couldnt afford to cure his cancer on his sallary. He had to cook fucking meth just to be able to do the BARE MINIMUM to survive. The top 1% of the wealthy dont even have to wake up every day and theyre still loaded for LIFE. While we suffer under their thumb. Walt was just willing to do what was necessary. This system is a joke. And this show does a fine job of showing how pitiful american working class people have to live.

    People forget, especially those who didn't watch it until it was available for streaming, that Season 5 was split into two parts a year apart. Season 5 Ep 8, the last scene is Hank on the toilet discovering the book and realizing Walt is Heisenberg and then it cuts to black. We had to wait a year to see the final 8 episodes and it was probably the most intense 8 episode finale of any series. I watched the series finale in Brooklyn's Prospect Park on a giant projector with hundreds and hundreds of people and it was indescribable. You could hear a pin drop in the big apple that night.

      When this happens to me out in public, I usually try and convince myself that all of these are not real and my mind is playing tricks on me because my brain is chemically imbalanced, and that I am not actually in danger. It does help.. sometimes and regain my self confidence in socialising. But yeah, it also doesnt help that I hate people and especially hate being surrounded with people. I honestly think, that humans are just not biologically designed for this, out in the wild back then people like us would’ve ended up being a ‘lone wolf’ and set up our own family and later on our own clan, but yeah, I guess circumstances have changes and those that failed to adapt will fail to carry on their gene, and thus only the strongest will survive. Its unfortunate, but people like us in the modern age of humanity, are, in a literal way, destined to die out. We got the short end of the evolutionary stick, we’re not meant to carry on our gene, or else we’ll be dooming our descendants too. Its the harsh truth.

      Idk, on rewatch I don’t subscribe to the idea he genuinely looked down on Walt, same as I don’t believe Walt hated or actually disliked Jesse for instance (at least until the end of the show). Just seeing his interactions with other guys he likes and trusts, like Gomie, tells me the machismo teasing and needling is a sign that Hank actually looks to a guy as a friend.
      In the context of the numerous times Hank confided in Walt, and even went out of his way to include him in certain events and activities, gives this more veracity in my mind and strongly alludes to the fact that even if Hank does in fact see Walt as somewhat spineless and timid, he genuinely likes and even respects Walt in some ways. If there’s one thing Hank never did, it was act or talk like Walt was an idiot, or a bad father. Hank seemed to be really impressed with and genuinely respect Walt in those ways which likely went a large distance in making Walt a good companion in Hank’s eyes.

      I can believe that even though my panic attacks are nothing like this, but I know they’re different for practically every person so no doubt there would’ve been many people watching this seeing him act the situation in the same way they experience their PA’s!
      Also just want to put my sympathy out there for all fellow anxiety/panic disorder sufferers, I know the hell that you are trapped in and I hope you find a way out as soon as physically, chemically or naturally possible! 🙏🏻❤️💯

      Oh it was torture. AMC would give us teasers clips for the next episode every week, each one getting shorter and shorter. By the time we got to the last 3 episodes, we only had a screenshot per episode, and the finale didn't even get, just the word "Woodworking." I remember thinking it meant Todd was finally gonna get with Lydia because Jack called her coochie a woodchipper.

    I have had plenty of panic attacks. It legit feels like you are having a heart attack. Your chest gets tight and your heart beats abnormally fast. You get sweaty. You have the most terrible thoughts of fear. I have panic disorder, and almost daily I thought I was dying. I was a prisoner in my own mind. Now that I am 26, my mind has developed more and I rarely have panic attacks anymore. And I can calm myself down.

      Hi mate. I had a panic disorder. It happened when driving, in traffic etc. I could barely drive. To go out in car was a major problem.
      After some medication and time I’m nearly back to normal. What a head fuck. All the best.

    • @bwillis1975
      @bwillis1975 6 months ago +2

      Agreed word for word. It feels like a heart attack. All of that. Muscle spasms right around your heart. Sweaty head (I'm bald so my scalp literally starts erupting in moisture). Can't breathe proper - hyperventilate. Can't stop pacing and walking around. Can't get out of the loop. I feel for you. We've been there. Go to hospital - pointless. My last big one I fought off at home.

      @bwillis1975 and the terrible part of panic attacks, is people are judgemental and think you are just over reacting. When it is a literal mental disorder that I can't help at times. A chemical imbalance. But I'm happy that they rarely happen now in adulthood

    Part of me really does think that deep down in his heart of hearts, at least a handful of times, Hank had BRIEFLY suspected Walt, but he refused to believe it. It makes the panic attack make so much sense. He couldn't ignore the nagging feeling in his gut and the transference of all that hatred for Heisenberg onto his brother-in-law made the stress of all those months come crashing down on him.

    This is such a realistic depiction of a panic attack that I'm actually getting secondhand anxiety just watching it. The slow, internal build-up, avoiding eye contact, not being able to give composed responses other than little grunts and one-word answers, , people mistaking the symptoms for a physical medical emergency rather than a mental health episode, gosh it's all so spot on

      It absolutely is, you’re right. I was diagnosed with panic disorder in 2012. And I actually find it really difficult to watch this because I started to feel like I’m going to have a panic attack myself. Horrible things. I think panic attacks are physical and mental. I know people call them mental because they start in the brain, but the brain and the body are one, and so, when the breathing picks up, as does the rest of the body. In fact, you could say they are completely physical in the sense that they are triggered by the amygdala, which is reactive, and doesn't consult the mind at all.

    This scene alone showed what a brilliant actor Dean Norris is. He could portray the tough-guy federal agent most of the time but then in a very realistic reaction if this were to happen to anyone you can see and feel his raw emotions, anger, confusion, and sheer panic. He'd been chasing Heisenberg for 5 years. All along it was his own innocent, high school chem teacher brother-in-law......
    His entire world was ripped into shreds in that moment.

      @sokamori28Walt was retiring in that very episode. Hank would never had another chance to get him with solid proof. Very few people left alive knew Walter was Heisenberg, besides Jesse or Mike.

    The show does such a good job of using it’s potential. I mean, we were watching these character for 5 seasons thinking “what would happen if Hank found out” and when he does, it’s so well made, so gripping and intense. Great TV.

    • @bwillis1975
      @bwillis1975 6 months ago

      YES. It's totally the opposite of what we think. Hank is paralyzed by it. When he recovers, we get that great confrontation scene (one of the best scenes of the series) and then Ozymandias - which does not play out at all how we thought it would. Walt tries not to be fatalistic but Hank is - he knows it is over and the bad guys have won. Wowzas. Just great writing. Vince Gilligan deserves a lot of credit for that overall arc as well.

    I have panic attacks and this scene and how it was portrayed- suddenly made me very anxious when I saw this the first time. Its depiction is pretty perfect-the forced blinking, the useless attempts to gain power over what's going on in the head, the dizziness, the urge to breathe heavy...
