Guitar World's Paul Riario review the Mesa/Boogie Mark V head and combo amp. The channel-assignable five-band EQ can add a final dose of tone-shaping flexibility to each channel's settings or be dialed out of the signal path.
_"So guys this is Paul from guitar world, now today I'm going to tell you about the guitar on my lap, and the amp that I'm reviewing but make no mistake I there will be no actual playing here, no siree! So hope you enjoy the video!"_
*Genius!*
hey this is paul from guitar world, today i will talk a bunch of bullshit and not even play anything, Genius!
Thanks, that sounded really good
😂😂😂
Did I miss something here? where the heck is the demonstration?
also, Paul does a remarkable job of explaining this amp's functionality and features. most of you hating twits have a hard time understanding a line 6 spider.
Right in the bottom, "Show more" you can find the link for the other parts of the review. You just had to read...
I have the combo one and this thing is amazing! Very versatile and because of that it's very hard to make a "complete" review about it in 5 mins...
I've played through a Mark III before and it was amazing! Since no seems to want to give up their Mark III, I'll be saving to buy the Mark V. I do prefer the Mark V over the Triple Rectifier. The Mark series are truly incredible!
were online could i go to purchise on of these amps?
Are the EQ sliders part of the power amp section?
can i put a combo on top of a cabinet?
It'd be nice if Guitar World's website didn't have video ads on autoplay.
@AncientItalianSecret Its affects at what volume the amp to break up. At a lower wattage, is more distorted up at lower volumes but it kinda quiet.
Where is Part 2???
Man, you talk about a tweakers delight! I could spend hours going thru all the setting. I played one of these hooked up to a Mesa 2x12 cab, and it blew me away. I wish I could have really gone thru it, but GC was packed. I will own this.
Amen Brother 7string :-) I've got a Mesa Roadster Head and I have had it 5 months and just got my Channel 1 Dialed in to what I'm pleased with. Channel 4 I have full bore liquid gain, which didn't take as long as channel 1. LOL These amps have many, many combinations to pick from. I'm glad I don't have EQ sliders on my Roadster because it would have taken even longer. The Reverb took some getting used to, I wasn't getting enough reverb, Mesa told me to put the Master Vol at Noon, IT worked great
Is that only a 90 Watt head?
Can you use this amp to play Lithuanian progressive blackened death metal?
id say the dual rectifier is the Flagship for Mesa but this is sweet too!
How do you set the EQ preset?
What's the purpose of the guitar?
I know why they called it the Mark series. My name is Mark and since im soo amazing, Mesa Boogie decided to name it that! They knew how amazing i was even 30 years before i was born. XD
I am sure there will be a part 2 where he plays through the amp. Hopefully he discards the Taylor and gives us something we can relate to. And I am not the first guy to say that...come on GuitarWorld, you're being addressed by the masses here! We want Les Pauls and Telecasters!
Am I going to hear it then or what??
Paul nailed everything on this. Quit complaining.
Here's a suggestion. The clean and clean-ish tones should be demo'ed with a Strat or Tele. The gainy tones should be demo'ed with a Les Paul.
So is the voicing just Paul?
no part two where you actually play?? wtf paul...
@xx7stringxx Huh will do thanks for takign the time to explain all that dude!
@runtodemhills youve never heard of using mesa/boogie for metal i use a mark IV linked to a line 6 spider jams but just the Mesa/boogie sounds amazing
it would be nice if we got to hear it.
Stop commenting about the guitar man. Its pretty much ok for whatever stuff he played. Its not like he used that guitar to play some hi-gain metal riffs. Furthermore, who said that mesa boogie is only for metalheads?
... but what does it sound like?
Great review thanks
thats not an amp thats a space station
I believe so. You can bypass the EQ if you don't want it.
Personally, I think the EQ is one of the best features on this amp.
This amp is like having 10 amps in one. Unbelievable amp!
Maybe you guys should read the description?
Looks like pure quality. I just bought a blackstar ht stage60 and its excellent. But this boogie looks the mutts nuts! With a price to make you baulk! I'd have one if I cld tho for sure
Hey?! Why the hell you need that Taylor guitar on that video?!
@xx7stringxx OH NOW I GET IT XD Okay, So why do people emphasize so much on wattage instead of decibels?
ummmm... using a Taylor for a Mesa?
THIS IS MADNESS!
love that hand motions. GET OUT THERE AND ACT!
He uses a Taylor because GW gets paid to use it. Thats one of the reasons that there is no longer a cons and pros in the reviews in the magazines, they just tell you to buy because it is perfect. They get PAID.
Why is he holding the guitar if he isn't gonna play ?
Goes into the model guitar he has clear down to what gauge strings. And plays nothing? Goes into features well, in theory it sounds good:)
Sounds Awesome..........
in other videos
you need this much choice if you do not know how you want to sound. once you figured out your own "voice", you can be ok with 2-3 options.
it must be great fun experimenting with this amp, but I guess its a bit too expensive for a toy.
Remember, John Petrucci uses A messa, you dont wanna "messa" with these amps if you dont know what it can give :)
"wouldn't be a mark series amplifier with the 5 band eq" -facepalm- You really astound me, Paul.
Awesome tone. ¬¬
How much are you being payed to use that guitar?
GUYS!!! THE FULL REVIEW IS ON THE DESCRIPTION!!!
why do you have a guitar if you don't use it???
Man this amp looks like it would take forever to fully review.
@scorpia616 i was just saying my mesa/boogie mark IV sounded amazing
I would like to know what a "real" guitar and a "real" amp are to you.
How good that he informed us about the guitar....
for the ones bitchin about why he didn't play, read the info, there its a link for the coninue of the review,
one channel of this amp has as many controls as my whole amp!
Holy crap. well thanks for describing the amp to us. would of helped to HEAR the thing..... sheesh. And I normally like your reviews.
Next time give a VERY quick overview then play every setting of each channel...THEN describe in detail.
I wish Rebecca Dirks did these reviews
Gob bless the Mark V.
all 3 parts are in link in description
@JESSVL84 Its too loud that's why hehe
oh my god why are tube amps so expensive!
the mark II is what James used for MAster Of Puppets!
Thanks for wasting five and a half minutes showcasing information that is found easily on the manufacturer's website.
FUCK, the Taylor's back!
I'm really getting sick of the commercials in these videos. Show us what you have, show us how it sounds. Easy.
These commercials and the lack of discs with the mag are going to make me go elsewhere for my guitar playing needs.
I told my dad I wanted to sell one of the two Line 6/ Bogner amps that I have in order to buy this amp. He told me, "Your Line 6 does all that stuff too..." No dad... Just no.
When she quit PG, I thought she would join Guitar World.
the guitar is there just 2 show he knows what he's talkin bout XP
Link is above...^^^^
This amp is a mind fvck.
After watching the video I'm like, "I need to buy this shit!" then when I saw the 2000 $USD price tag, it felt like I got kicked in the balls.
Seriously, no playing?
all i have at the moment is a line 6.... (Bursts into tears and starts to cry) :,(
Dear Guitar World,
I've been a subscriber since '09 and Paul is great & all but, he doesn't suite my style (METAL). Can you hire someone who actually jams to Megadeth, Yngwie, Dream Theater, etc. A versatile player. Sorta like Andy James. Paul should review acoustics & strats.
Thanks!
Good lord that looks complicated... Im sticking with my vypyr
watch all parts on their website if you want to hear him play, you will not hear any surprises
@wwit63 I love you. Pisses me off people can't just be respectful.
enough plugging for dunlop and taylor
For goodness sake! Whatever happened to "turn on power...turn off standby...turn up volume...play guitar?" Too much glitz. Just plug in and play.
@alucarddamed Of course, and I don't know why could anyone would like to listen to it: it's the usual "ña, ña, ña, ña, ña" sound Paul aaaaalways get out from any amp. And I mean any: any label, any setting. Any.
Ha, "even metal"? On a Mesa Boggie? What sorcery is this?!?
Taylor shoulda read the fine print better
U don't need to plug in and turn on the power and just put that guitar down.....
Gah.. talk about simplicity, huh? I wish I couldve heard the tone, pro recorded. I know one of the guitar players from Dillenger Escape Plan plays these. Whichever one plays Stage Left. It may have been another Mark series, but who knows.. this thing is just.. so freaking much. I dont why guitar amps are becoming so damn extensive, that you hardly know where to start. I guess go one channel at a time, huh?
omg could he let that guitar at home??
My video of reviewing this amp is way better, I didn't even talk at all, just played it.
Great demo, as always and all I can see is: DROOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
@RLetts damn straight
Silicone rectifier...it's the secret, extra-squishy mode...lol
AWKWARD MAN, Y U NO DEMO TONES
It will be mine... oh yes... it will be mine... jeje I'm referring to the amp, not to the guitar... neither to Paul e_e
Wow.Those high gain sounds are soooo nice.Typical Boogie.
followed the link, he doesn't even once try a metal setting... I hate this review, I really do
@xJustynLx WAY TOO complicated. Boogie tries to do too much and ends up blowing it
My band likes this tone monster. Check out the Red Light Saints at redlightsaints.us or search Red Light Saints Say What You Will on RUclips to see us playing with Ed Kowalczyk from LIVE at the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay, WI. Thanks All!
