- READ ME FIRST: This is a LONG video with lots of topics and rambling. Skip down in the description below to see clickable time markers that will let you skip to the interesting parts. I did edit out or speed up the areas where you can't hear me (nothing but wind noise or garbled speech). The fix for that is coming soon. As always, please leave comments and questions below! Today, I readjusted my camera to a new position on the front corner of my helmet. The audio is worse through most of this VLOG because the camera is up in the windstream and not shielded by anything. I picked up the GoPro microphone adapter near the end of the video and things get better. However, the microphone (or placement) is too sensitive and it over-saturates/clips the audio at times. I have already ordered another microphone and it should be arriving sometime soon.
The video editing is my nemesis right now. I am researching new software solutions to help me with the process. GoPro Studio (free) is very glitchy, crashes a lot, and corrupts video segments. I've been spending an average of 4-6 hours to convert, edit, encode, and upload only a small amount of video... it's painful. I have a fast PC for the editing (Intel i7 8-core, 32GB RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO SSD, etc), so I don't think it's a hardware problem. We'll see if better software (e.g. Adobe CC) is the silver bullet needed to slay the beast.
I have also experienced some odd behavior from the GoPro cameras truncating/chopping the end of the videos (or turning off prematurely), even when the batteries are good. I'm using the fastest SD cards available, so I'm not sure what that's about.

I can see why you call your Ryker an Urban Missile mate, I can't get over how much Grunt they've got, I reckon it'll give my 1300 a run for it's money!! Just let you know my F3 whines which is mainly due to the extra long drive belt plus the straight cut gears & is considered normal! Belt tension also plays a big part!! 👍👍😁😁
Yep, I'm editing and uploading a few more commute videos where you can REALLY see that grunt... it FIRES away from traffic. It's like driving a naked muscle car with only 3 wheels. The roll-on performance is fantastic because you don't have to downshift or think about which gear you're in... just whack the throttle and GO! In all of these videos so far, I have been riding in "normal" mode instead of "sport" or "rally"... those modes are much more aggressive in terms of power and throttle response. I think that I'll be replacing lots of rear tires.
As for the gear whine, I have seen the gears in the "transmission" (gearbox) and they are very straight-cut, so that's probably a good deal of the whine that I hear. The decel groan seems to be coming from the rear end, but it could just be transmitted noise through the driveshaft from the gearbox... dunno. I'm hoping to find someone in my area that has a Ryker 900 that wants to trade off for a bit and then we'll compare notes. ;-) --QM
Brilliant mate, Rotax engines Rock!! I recently got rid of my SV Suzuki, it's uploaded on my channel & got my F3 & I've never looked back!! I love the Carefree Relaxed riding on a Can-Am, no worries of dropping it & you don't have to worry like you said, about putting your feet done at the lights to hold the thing up ... You can't beat it mate!! Just don't forget to put the stand down when you park it!! LOL 😁😁👍👍
Now I can’t wait to put my mount on.
I watched your accessory install video... good stuff! Which mount are you talking about... helmet cam mount? If so, I'll post a video on a new mount that I just received today... haven't put it on yet, but I'll probably do another ride VLOG tomorrow with that piece of kit installed. --QM
Video is looking good dude!
Thx for the feedback! Sorry for the late reply... your comment got buried and Gmail didn't notify me. I'm working on my editing skills and new software right now. I should be able to post several videos per week, so stay tuned! --QM
Great video, thanks for giving me some ideas.
Glad to help. I have a bunch more mod and upgrade videos coming soon. I am a gear junkie, so I always accessorize my bikes right away with all of the goodies for my commuting and touring duties. --QM
Another question, does your parking brake lever rattle? When I’m driving mine bounces a little and rattles. Drives me nuts.
@@Jeep-Addicts That's a good question, but I haven't really listened for it yet. I have noticed that the parking lever is scratching/scuffing the air filter housing a little bit due to close fitment (no slack between lever and filter housing). I will listen in on mine to see if I can find the same behavior. Another thought about the vibration... it could be the plastic bits for the air cleaner vibrating against other parts. The Ryker's engine is mounted longitudinally, so it's rattling up and down slightly (rotating) if viewed from the side... maybe close clearance with something else on the left side? --QM
Hard to hear with the wind
Agreed! This was one of my early VLOG's before I switched over to a helmet mic and a different chin mount for the camera. You can see my hack video here where I relocated my camera and started with the Cardo microphone that I'm still using today: ruclips.net/video/D_lbmLdenHU/видео.html . Cheers! --QM
I like the idea of the "hillbilly" cruise control😆" I'm doing that 4sure
If you like that, you'll probably like my helmet hook hack that's coming up tomorrow. You can see the hook in this video: ruclips.net/video/ehj_y3aQOA0/видео.html (4m 17s), and again at the end of that video (7m 12s). Those hooks are cheap on Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013ME9PII , and only require a slight modification to fit behind the Ryker's factory bar-end mirrors. --QM
What is that hack on the throttle doing for you?
I tried to reply to your previous question about this a couple of times, but RUclips seems to be eating my responses. That is my cruise control hack... you can watch the video here: ruclips.net/video/KPAomxzdCiE/видео.html . --QM
Did you get the laser wheel alignment done?
Unfortunately no... not yet anyway. I am waiting for the local shops to get their adapters for the Ryker's hubs. The estimate is sometime near the end of the month. I will certainly post an update when that is done and let everyone know what difference it makes. Hopefully, I'll be able to video the process and let everyone watch along. ;-) --QM
Thanks for the response and I really enjoy the videos.
Hey motard I enjoy the videos keep it up but maybe this will help with the wind noise check out a guy named chaseontwowheels he has videos on the whole helmet set up
Yes, sir, thanks for the compliment and for the video suggestion! I remember watching part of Chase's video several months ago. I need to go back and find that one to see how he handles the gear. His audio and in-ride video are always very good. I received a new chin-mount for the camera today, and the new microphones should be arriving soon. I also have a few extra Cardo helmet mic's that I might press into VLOG duty. They work great for the Scala and PackTalk, so maybe the can work for the GoPro as well. Thx again! --QM
Question... What type of riding jacket are you wearing in this video? Thanks for your time and information...
That jacket is an older Fly Racing Street mesh (textile) jacket that I picked up several years ago. It was a cheap, sale item that I snagged for $99, if I remember correctly. A current equivalent would be this: www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/fly-flux-air-jacket . It has been my "go to" jacket for a long time because it is very light weight and it breathes well... it's HOT in Houston. I have upgraded the back protector to a CE Level-2, and the other armor (shoulders, and elbows) is still the original CE Level-1. My only complaints about it are the wrist snaps being in the wrong place (facing the bottom or anywhere else would work better, they get caught in the pocket zips if not already secured), and the rain/wind liner is about as good as a plastic trash bag. I just use an external rain/wind shell over the jacket when needed. --QM
