A few months ago, I went through an existential crisis which I never told anyone about at the time. I found myself in a dark room, listening to this same song on repeat, rocking back and forth, feeling like I was losing my mind. It was as if I suddenly became conscious and hyper-aware, questioning everything-myself, the religion that had been imposed on me. I wondered, for whom was I doing all of this? What even is God? The idea of an all-knowing, all-powerful being seems absurd to me. It’s baffling. My parents have used their personal ideologies to legislate my life, unable to accept that they can’t control everything, including me. Religion is about faith, and faith is something I can’t reconcile with. I’m a logical person-I trust facts over feelings and emotions. But I could never admit this to my parents; it would ruin everything. It would ruin my life. So, I stay silent, waiting until I finally reach a breaking point. Even the idea of ceasing to exist after death is both depressing and oddly comforting. To be conscious, to feel, to live-and then, suddenly, to just cease to exist. The only remnants of your existence would be your body and whatever artifacts you left behind. But even those would eventually decay and disappear, as if you were never here. Time doesn’t stop for anyone, and everything is temporary-even the planet we live on. As selfish as it is, I find myself looking forward to experiencing death... peacefully, of course.
