Epic, and I have to say just as you said the tragedy of the two best friends fighting each other in Gettysburg is heartbreaking and must have been replicated all over the America. A very powerful and emotional song.

in more recent times this happened to my people in former yugoslavia too. neighbors, friends, relatives starte killing each other.

Jon Schaffer's greatest talent as a song writer and composer is his ability to make the drama, tragedy, pathos, enlightenment, or pure rage of any subject anywhere emotionally relatable to the listener. I never ever fully appreciated how tragic and awful the Civil War really was until I was out and reading the events that took place on that day.

The Gettysburg movie is one of Jeff Daniels' highlights of his career. Such a powerfull cast all over for what was essentially a made-for-cable HBO feature. I was able to finally lay my hands on the extended special edition DVD a few years ago.
John Schaffer did an excellent job in putting those events to music and was able to pour the Battle Of Gettysburg into a 32 minute rock opera with awesome orchestration.
Yeah he is awesome in that movie and I really need to pick up that dvd special
@@Jerkturtle The Director's Cut is four and a half hours long and has lots of restored content that was left out after it was decided they were going to give the movie a limited theater release before airing it on HBO and 272 minutes was deemed to long for theaters at the time. For some reason, HBO never aired the full version; maybe for the same reason. I think it's still the best Civil War movie ever made (at least of the ones I've seen), due to the stellar performances and the incredible level of detail and accuracy in both make-up and costumes.
Yeah I saw it in the theatre and it was awesome. They had an intermission halfway through lol. It helps when you have thousands of extras (reenactors) who bring their own costumes and gear too .
Do know that the battle of Little Round Top is only one among many important events that happened on day 2. Also Joshua Chamberlain would not be the only defender of Little Round Top as there are others who are also vital in holding the hill. This song is great and intense, befitting the intensity of holding Little Round Top. And yeah, Jeff Daniels was great at portraying Chamberlain; I'd love to see a movie about Chamberlain.
Final song is the best in this Trilogy, imo. Glad your listening to Iced Earth, one of my all time favorite bands. Ripper sounds great on these, however I prefer them with Barlow. They have another trilogy, slightly better than this, imo, the Something Wicked Trilogy. Would live to hear a reaction to that or a stand alone song from their Dark Saga concept (Spawn) album, A Question of Heaven.
I know this is 4+ years old, but I don't believe Barlow would have been able to do this trilogy justice. This is perfect for Ripper's voice and I honestly thing this is his magnum opus. This was absolutely the perfect time for Ripper to be with Iced Earth
