That's literally how you should say it though. "wie/wee" in English has the same IPA as "oui" in French. So "ya-oui" is correct.

I think the difference is where he puts the weight/emphasis and also the placement of his "a" vowel is a bit different. Basically just his specific accent makes it sound a bit different to how the average majority would say it ^^
And in spanish we just go with yaOi

I think the problem is him pronouncing the 'i' as if it's a separate word. Pronouncing 'Yao' and 'i' as two words and smushing them together creates how he says it.
He's taking the 'i' to high in the back of the mouth, it should all be the same tongue level.
(Idk the actual words for how mouths move to make sounds, so this is as good i cant get lmao)

I feel like people aren’t explaining it very well haha, the thing is is that he puts the emphasis in the wrong place. the emphasis is usually put in the first syllable, whereas vanta puts more emphasis on the ‘I’ at the end. instead of YAO-i he says it as yao-I. of course it’s not a big deal though, it’s a quirk of his!

I know people don't say yaoi as much in English anymore but can't tell if it's due to stigma or just because BL from other countries have become more popular too like manhwa
why are you guys booing him he's right 😭😭😭 there's a lot of examples of this in japanese where extra syllables are slurred to the point that it's like they've been dropped. it's like with ~desu, nobody says "deh-SOO" you pronounce it like "dess"
