Aww! My kitty loves to paw at my pedals and lie on them while I am playing .Plus, our cats look very similar. Liked and favorited video just for the cat!
Great video and insight. I recently scaled down my live rig from ten pedals to three plus a tuner on a Pedaltrain Nano. Getting back to playing and singing and less tap dancing. Freedom.
Whether a pedalboard is a nano, which I dig or a nano plus that holds up to 6 full size pedals, snark tuners still exist. A Tuner in a pedal takes up pedalboard space for an effect pedal. Space that could be used for a compressor pedal or an overdrive or delay pedal or modulation effect
Great Video and instruction. I am coming back to playing after many years away (kids, mortgage etc) and am realising how much I missed in the intervening years. Nice to hear and see the basics explained. Thank You!
All I need are a boost/distortion, tuner, and delay. This leaves room for either a tremolo or fuzz. I like to keep it simple so it doesnt get in the way of the real guitar work
Awesome review JJ... now that the crop of "mini" pedals have proven themselves, this is a GREAT idea. I need to make a couple ASAP cause my current board bugs me for what I'm doing currently and I always make a compromise by just taking maybe the Wah off the board and throwing it in for blues jams while I have a bunch of pedals I kinda don't use because I have my "main rig". Think it's time to sell some old pedals and get myself a few new "mini's" to make up some of these "grab and go" boards. As usual, great vid mate.
TIP: what I ususally do before attaching the pedals on the board,( especially with lager boards) is first cover the bottom of the pedals with a piece of cardboard the size of the pedal using tape, so you can move around easily while positioning all the pedals.
This could really benefit from something like a Rowin pedal, which is incredibly small. It's about the size of the polytune/ditto looper. maybe a little smaller
I use the pedaltrain Nano too with the pedaltrain Volto and I'm really happy! I'd like to hear some demo of that pedalboard, it would be awesome! Have a nice day :)
Can you go from this Pedal-board to a P.A.? I play acoustic and I've been looking for a way to do a simple set up like this.....Good job you are very easy to listen to and watch.....
I wonder why they designed the gigbag that way. It's so hard get the board in and out. The Nano+ has a Gigbag that can be opened almost completely so that it's very easy to get to the pedalboard...
Hey JJ, I'm really interested in the Karma Suture, I keep seeing little clips of it and hearing people talk about it and love it, but I can't seem to find any decently in depth clips of it. Would you mind doing a proper review of it, or at very least just telling me some of your thoughts on it?
I wish I knew what I know now about what I like for my tone, I would have bought less pedals and would have gotten a PT nano. My life could have been easier that way. By the way, don't know if you still have this rig, but if you do, and you want to add some more juice, you should get a Zoom MS-70CDR instead of the Earthquake.
went from a Pedaltrain Jr to a Pedaltrain 1... and I always wonder why... I don't like a lot of effects, I'm gonna go get a mini just to see if I can go bare bones and still sound good
Great vid JJ, Thanks. 2 ?'s. Because u only have 4 peds does that mean u don't need a power supply? If so, what is the # of pedals u.can use before needing a power supply? Thanks You.
Bellamiso Nesario Ooooopppps. I meant some peds may require more than 9 volts; or because of the # of peds & the length of cables (daisy chain) voltage is reduced causing poor performance of the peds..
How do you line the wires up beside each other? Is the kind of pedal I have and it just doesn’t work? I have a wah pedal, a boss DS-1 distortion pedal, and a boss CE-2W chorus pedal. It doesn’t wire up like yours does. On mine the input and output are on opposite sides output on left and input on the right. (Output as the amplifier and input as the instrument.) so I have to wire them and make the cable on the amp bend and it breaks within a week, is there something wrong?
My friend was just suggesting that I get this because of it's size. He said it was made for smallish stuff like mine. I have a whole 3 pedals and as you know they are sort of expensive, so I'd like to keep them safe and protected. I have a question. Once you got your pedals on the board did the whole thing fit back into the bag? it looked padded. Was the bag padded? Thanks bro. T.
I want a pedal board nano like this Guitar----overdrive,chorus,reverb,delay---amplifier I was curious if the reverb goes before or after the delay like Guitar----overdrive,chorus,delay,reverb---amplifier Which one is right!
Most people, myself included, would put the delay BEFORE the reverb. I suppose you could try it out for yourself and see what you like, but I would definitely recommend doing it like I mentioned :)
Cool but around the 13 min mark there was no telling at all what you were doing with the zip ties. Some close ups with decent lighting would have helped.
Ng Choon Tat you don't need any pedals for acoustic guitar if you're a beginner. Learn as much as you can, and learn to play along with your favorite acoustic songs.
@Ng Choon Tat, I second @24ZEPACDC. As an acoustic beginner you should focus on learning to play using the acoustics of your guitar. Make it sound good and move to electric when you have the budget for a electric guitar + amp. You could use pedals with an agoustic theres some artist doing that but learn you instrument before you slam all your money on peripherals.
I got 6 standard boss stompbox style pedals on mine. You have to flip them horizontally and one on each of the rows, but it works. Maybe half an inch of overhang on the outside pedals but it doesn't really matter to me as they are stable and are my 'always on' pedals.
Aww!
My kitty loves to paw at my pedals and lie on them while I am playing .Plus, our cats look very similar. Liked and favorited video just for the cat!
Robert Caple that’s the problem in the video 😂😂
Appreciated JJ. Your thoroughness was considered and invaluable. Vocational expertise? Rare gift. You've got it. Great work.
Here it is 2024 and I have my HX stomp, an expression pedal, and Boss wireless on it. Love these!
13:09 TC Electronic Polytune Mini (tuner) -> Catalinbread Karma Suture (fuzz) -> Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master (reverb + delay) -> TC Electronic Ditto Looper (looper)
Great video and insight. I recently scaled down my live rig from ten pedals to three plus a tuner on a Pedaltrain Nano. Getting back to playing and singing and less tap dancing. Freedom.
Putting my pedaltrain together today for bass, with tuner, overdrive, Samson wireless and a direct box. This was really helpful. Thank you.
I like to watch professional and serious videos about music gear like this one, thanks 🙏

VERY smart choice of pedals in my opinion
Well, I'm sold. The size of it looks perfect for easy transport. Great video! :-)
JJ your videos are always smooth you're always neat and have a lot of integrity excellent demo as usual
Great Video and instruction. I am coming back to playing after many years away (kids, mortgage etc) and am realising how much I missed in the intervening years. Nice to hear and see the basics explained. Thank You!

Thanks - great post - created my first pedal board today following your guidance! Appreciate it!
Micro cube rocks. Specially if you play a booster like a TS in the Brit combo channel.
Nice. May I suggest Lava Cables. They have very small plugs (solderless too). It's very easy to mount and incredibly reliable.
Awesome review JJ... now that the crop of "mini" pedals have proven themselves, this is a GREAT idea. Ryley Wilson Yep... You got it.

Great video JJ
Beginning to end, a well done video!
`Cool board and kitty catty! :)
Excellent instructional video. Someday soon I will be building one of these!
Hey you should use dual lock tape by 3m. Much stronger and cleaner
I use the pedaltrain Nano too with the pedaltrain Volto and I'm really happy! I'd like to hear some demo of that pedalboard, it would be awesome! Have a nice day :)
Great video and backround music!
i have those yellow fender custom leads. amazing.
Excellent explanation, thank you.
You were so helpful here, thank you! I really enjoyed this.
I'd put the tuner last so that you have a mute switch for the delays or the feedback that the fuzz/overdrive can cause
you would have to turn them off to tune correctly anyways.
Digitech drop pedal--->tuner--->Blackstar Metal pedal LT.
"i recommend you get a guitar and amp youre really happy with..." *looks over at roland cube*
You must have missed where he said he uses the cube for giving lessons to his students.
The Cube is a nice sounding amp, though...
Can you go from this Pedal-board to a P.A.? I play acoustic and I've been looking for a way to do a simple set up like this.....Good job you are very easy to listen to and watch.....
Nice job on the video.

Great video and great explanation..:)
Excellent video
I am using a Volto equipped Nano for my Blues Harp.
Any suggestion pedal packed Nano for playing Blues guitar directly through the PA?
3:30 also could work with keeleu caverns v1
That's also a valid choice
Well done! thanks
thanks i just did mine and it awesome
Thanks for the nice review!
Well done
Thanks for the informative video.
I'm going to build a smaller board to use for teaching too
Do Boss pedals fit on this pedalboard?
Superb video
Lots of room on the Nano board, could you have put the power supply on the board? Or, was there a reason you did not put PS on the board?
Hey JJ, I'm really interested in the Karma Suture, I keep seeing little clips of it and hearing people talk about it and love it, but I can't seem to find any decently in depth clips of it. Would you mind doing a proper review of it, or at very least just telling me some of your thoughts on it?
curious about how the board with pedals fit back into the bag, snug fit or loose moving around?
No room for power supply though?
I wish I knew what I know now about what I like for my tone, I would have bought less pedals and would have gotten a PT nano. My life could have been easier that way. By the way, don't know if you still have this rig, but if you do, and you want to add some more juice, you should get a Zoom MS-70CDR instead of the Earthquake.
Ok :-) So you have the same "problem" as i , Cats and Cables :-)
thanks for the video. i would really love to know what guitar that is in the background!
went from a Pedaltrain Jr to a Pedaltrain 1... and I always wonder why... I don't like a lot of effects, I'm gonna go get a mini just to see if I can go bare bones and still sound good
JJ! Do you know where in Europe you can get those patch cables?
Btw great video!!

When are you going to demo the Karma Suture?
Why are yellow zip ties more suitable for pedalboard?
I was wondering the same thing? Why would you care about the color?
I think I've heard him jokingly say that before in another video. Maybe it's just an ongoing pointless joke on his channel.
Ahhh flew right over my head
Have you ever tried the empress fuzz pedal?
Hi jj. Do You Play this board into the micro cube?
How do you line the wires up beside each other? Is the kind of pedal I have and it just doesn’t work? I have a wah pedal, a boss DS-1 distortion pedal, and a boss CE-2W chorus pedal. Do what sound best to you
Could you fit a cry baby somewhere into the case (like, in a pocket)? Thanks
does it fit back in the nano bag with all the pedals on ?
yes
hi jj! in which part of the pedal chain would you put a compressor pedal? cheers!
thanks! :)
What brand patch cable are you using?
nice video :)
When you say putting the looper "last" do you mean closest to the amp or closest to your guitar? Which end is considered last?
STINKYPETE500X loopers usually go that last point to the amp, unless you just want a clear loop and the effects just coming from the amp
Is it a digital delay?
Cool but around the 13 min mark there was no telling at all what you were doing with the zip ties. Some close ups with decent lighting would have helped.
Put the connecting wires in the slot, not on top of the board!
Hi Tanis, I'm A Acoustic Guitarist, as for beginner using pedal, are this that you mention good for my start.?
Ng Choon Tat you don't need any pedals for acoustic guitar if you're a beginner. Learn as much as you can, and learn to play along with your favorite acoustic songs.

Thanks Guys for giving me some answer, will listen to both of your advice... :-D
Cat, cat!
Trip on
Why is there a loud guitar playing while you're talking? Talk about the exact last thing needed. Other wise good video.
Could i get 5 pedals on it if they are the size of catalinbread.
No.
I got 6 standard boss stompbox style pedals on mine. You have to flip them horizontally and one on each of the rows, but it works. Maybe half an inch of overhang on the outside pedals but it doesn't really matter to me as they are stable and are my 'always on' pedals.
P
Tuners on a pedalboard are a waste. The clip on ones work great. Who cares what they look like.
cleft turnip They're fine, but they are easily lost, destroyed, or stolen if you play live much.
Boring 😴
