I love that you're self taught. Way too much stock is put in formal education.

I love the video! I remember when I wrote a 61-paged, handwritten story in first grade and I continue to wonder how I managed to stay so motivated to write it.😂I remember sitting at my desk and secretly writing, trying not to get caught by my teacher.😂😂😂 It was greeaaaat. But it was that story that really got me thinking about myself and my passion.❤️

How cool is that!! 😍 I know, same. I don't know how I stayed motivated to write all the (terrible) stories I did when I was a kid… but all the practice did pay off!

When I was 13, I wrote this horrible 340-paged, handwritten tween love story. (Why did I torture my hand that ruthlessly?😂)
The 12-year-old MC had three boyfriends in a few weeks, her school ran a speed dating event for all the students (horrible poetry was involved) and she participated in some Americas next Topmodel rip-off (and won). Moreover, she cheated on boyfriend number 2 who paid for a 5 Star Hotel on Mallorca, with the boy that ended up becoming boyfriend number 3. (Boyfriend 2 actually cheated on her at the same time, so they were equal, at least according to my MC) She threw up from eating ice cream which contained a little bit of alcohol. I definitely knew how the world works😂
I didn't even finish it because I didn't know how it was supposed to end.
Yeah, I was weird, I still am, tbh.

The best advice I have ever read on writer's block is:
There's no such thing. Did you ever have a talking block?
I think writer's block is just when a person let's his fear of judgement get the better of him or her. Do not take counsel of your fears. Life is for the brave.
I like the Klingon, Mister Worf philosophy: Whatever doesn't kill you becomes the focus of your attack.

Abbie, you have said many great things. But this saying......"your book can change the world"......is classic and I will always keep it my mind and heart as inspiration to keep writing. A huge thank you.

Thank you for talking about how not writing every day helps your creativity. I get exhausted by writing advice always saying "write every day". I love writing always have but if I wrote every day I'd... stop loving writing...

I feel like we are going to see an uprising of well-written villains. At least, I hope so. I hear lots of people raising awareness about the standard "bad guy, bad for the badness of being bad" and saying "we shouldn't do this!" The era of villains would be magical.

For writing historical fiction there is a LOT of research. But at least for me there were some things I really enjoy researching. Historical fiction is basically all I write, so I know a bit about research. Anyway, for example I am currently writing a story about WW2 from the Russian perspective. So, while there were many things, I really hated researching {Siege of Leningrad, Battle of Stalingrad etc.}, for obvious reasons. But there were also things I really enjoyed researching, like Russian food and how much western fashion was aloud in the USSR at the time. so don't be afraid of research, there will be unpleasant things, but there are good things too.

I also write like that, take a few days to feel sorry for myself and eat junk, and get back to it with enthusiasm (sometimes) a few days later... I'm finishing my phd thesis, and we have to stay sane somehow. Breaks are everything. Thanks for these videos!!!

Hi again, Abbie! This is a great video, but I want you to know that I loved this sentence: "That is my motivation, how can we change the world, how can we create art that changes the way people think BY CHANGING HOW THEY FEEL." In fact, you reminded me of Neil Gaiman, my favorite author, because it's a phrase he could have said. (Okay, I had to put the google translator to write this last one). Anyway, I'm very happy for your future published novel and I wish you the best of the world! Congratulations!!
See you next year! Have a great holiday time! Kisses from Spain :3

My problem is the exact opposite. I am writing a novel at the age of 11. And I literally beat myself up for not writing nice. At all. My friends and parents say that its amazing but if your comparing yourself with someone like J.K rowling... um.... It is going to end in tears.

Abbie, how do you use Hemingway? Hemingway doesn't give to an option on how you can fix your sentence structure. Usually I find that a couple, well placed periods will fix up my hard to read sentences. But I don't want smaller sentences all the time. So usually I'll add a period to see if that fixes my sentences, but then replace the period with a coma. Helmingway has made me pay more attention to my writing and editing and I find after editing my work with the app, it's a lot better. So I feel a bit of decision making is needed when editing with Hemingway. Is this how you edit with Hemingway App?

I love, love, LOVE your videos, and all the fabulous information, your spunk and your wisdom. One thing I don't really like about them (the only thing) is the music in the background. Your info is so interesting and informative, and the music is very distracting. It's unnecessary. You are very interesting, and I want to just listen to you. I hope you take this the way it was intended: to be helpful. Thanks!
