      Gentile come sempre. Sono lieto che il video sia piaciuto (d'altra parte li faccio solo per questo).

    I love your videos. Did you retire the RX100? I was wondering if you could tell me about your Davinci resolve project settings? I tried translating a previous comment of yours from Italian but I had a hard time understanding.
    Are these the correct settings?:
    1. Color Management -> Color Science -> Davinci YRGB Color Managed
    2. Color Management -> Color Processing Mode -> Custom -> Rec.2100 HLG for Input/Timeline/Output
    3. Where do I set luminance mapping to 1000 nits?
    4. Minor color/exposure adjustments
    5. Export Quicktime DNxHR 444 10-bit
    6. In Handbrake, select MP4 and 10 bit x265 (i'm not exactly sure on this step, do you start with a 4k preset?)
    For context, I have the RX100M7 and I'm using HLG & BT.2020. When I follow the above steps, RUclips won't play my videos back properly (doesn't display the HDR logo on my LG OLED like your videos do). But I'm able to play the raw videos from a USB stick on my TV and it displays the HLG HDR logo at the beginning, so I know that the files coming from my camera are fine...I just don't know how to process them through resolve...

      Thank you so much for your kind comment. The RX-100 VI fell victim to the salt water of the Tyrrhenian Sea (a dry-bag used many times to protect photographic equipment did not work properly: I'm not sure whether to fix the camera or wait for the M8)
      Regarding da DaVinci Resolve in the current Studio version 17.4.6, the settings for a HLG HDR video are as follows:
      - Color science: DaVinci YRGB Color Managed;
      - Color processing mode: custom;
      - Timeline color space and Output color space: both REC.2100 HLG;
      Timeline working luminance: I choose HDR 1000, which is the reference, but it depends on the playback device;
      Limit output gamut to: generally, Output color space, but sometimes I choose DCI-P3, based on the type of shot.
      Regarding Input color space, what to select depends on the type of recorded clips. REC.2100 HLG for clips recorded in HLG; S-gamut / S-Log, or Fujifilm F-Log, etc, for videos recorded in Log.
      - Contrast adjustments (always);
      - Gamma adjustement (maybe);
      - HDR adjustments (if needed);
      - Color correction (absolutely necessary if clips are recorded in log format).
      Export:
      Format: MP4 or QuickTime;
      Codec: H265
      Encoder: harware, if possible;
      Quality: Restict to (depends: 150000, 200000, 300000);
      Encoding profile: Main 10
      That's all.
      The Handbrake step is ONLY for a workflow in DaVinci Resolve Free edition; if you have Resolve Studio, Handbrake is not necessary.

      @@PaoloBucci-HDR After 20+ hours of messing around I finally got it working! Thank you for your help! I have 3 quick questions for you...
      1. Why does the free version of Resolve require Handbrake for this to work? I am confused about that. I will gladly pay for Resolve if it makes my workflow easier/faster
      2. Why export H.264 from Resolve and then convert to H.265 after in Handbrake? I don't understand why only this method works for RUclips. If I buy Resolve, would I export using the same settings I'm currently using?
      3. Do you have any "Quality" recommendations in Handbrake? I am using "Constant Quality", but should I use an "Avg bitrate" (maybe I should match the bitrate I use to export in Resolve)?
      Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get the very best quality possible :)
      I also have an ND and Polarizer filter for my rx100, with a pan/tilt motion control system on the way. I plan on creating a new channel for 4K HDR Texas videos 🤠
      These are the final settings that worked for me (I might experiment and change things):
      In Resolve Project Settings:
      1. Color science: DaVinci YRGB Color Managed
      2. Color processing mode: Custom
      3. Input color space: Rec.2100 HLG
      4. Timeline color space: Rec.2100 HLG
      5. Output color space: Rec.2100 HLG
      6. Limit output gamut to: Output color space
      7. Timeline working luminance: HDR 1000
      In Resolve Export:
      1. Format: MP4
      2. Codec: H.264
      3. Quality: Restrict to 200000 Kb/s
      4. Encoding Profile: High (I don't have Main10 in my options)
      In Handbrake:
      1. Preset: Production Max
      2. Format: MP4
      3. Passthru Common Metadata: Checked
      3. Video Encoder: H.265 10-Bit (x265)
      4. Constant Quality: 23

      @N M I address your questions:
      1) DaVinci Resolve free version does not export to H264 / H265 Main 10, but only to Main (8 bit). So it is not possible to directly create a true HDR or HLG HDR video, which necessarily requires exporting in 10-bit. This is why an external software (Handbrake) must be used for the final 10-bit encoding.
      The Studio edition of Resolve, on the other hand, allows you to export directly to Main 10 and then create an HDR video without other steps. Also, it enables hardware acceleration, which greatly reduces the export time.
      2) A true HLG HDR video requires, as mentioned, 10-bit encoding, REC.2020 color space, REC.2100 HLG gamma. In theory even the H264 codec can handle these specifications, but in reality RUclips recognizes the video as HLG HDR only if it is encoded in H265.
      3) Each encoding and re-encoding reduces the quality of the video. To minimize the loss of quality it is useful to use a high bitrate. But this increases the export time, increases the size of the video and also increases the time it takes to upload it to RUclips.
      Look for the right balance according to your needs; I generally export at 150,000 or 200,000 kb/s.
      For the best quality, DaVinci Resolve Studio is a must. I suggest you buy a dongle, which comes with a B.M. product, such as "Video assist". You will have every software update, lifetime.
      About your workflow:
      - Encoding Profile: Main creates an 8-bit video. If you want to export in real 10-bit HDR tyou have two choices: 1) use Studio edition and export in Main 10; 2) if you prefer to use the free version of Resolve, export to .mov (QuickTime) and DNxHR 444 10-bit codec (which is lossless format) and PCM audio. Then convert the resulting (very large) file with Handbrake in H265 10-bit.
      Regarding your plan to create an HDR channel covering the state of Texas, that's a great idea because RUclips lacks quality HDR content. When you upload the first video, just let me know.

      @@PaoloBucci-HDR Thank you! I appreciate the detailed answers. I'll look into the Blackmagic bundles. I noticed that my unedited HLG footage already looks good when played on my TV and doesn't require very much tweaking, but I guess I need more practice. Colors are so saturated even though saturation is set to 0 in my picture profile. I uploaded a test clip with no edits

      @@PaoloBucci-HDR Hey it's me again. This is my new channel 😀. I finally uploaded my first test video. I used creative commons music like you did. The HDR version looks really good, but the SDR version sometimes has blocky/banding artifacts in blue skies. I tried everything to fix it but ultimately I have no control over how RUclips compresses videos...oh well. I'll have to get a 10-bit camera someday. I hope you will be my first subscriber 😎. Thanks for helping me work out the technical issues
