    I'll try to explain the rules for you.
    When you serve you must serve above the middle line into the other side of the court from the service box. After that you only have to hit the ball above the bottom line and below the top line. Players take turns to hit the ball and the ball has to hit the front wall but it can hit one of the other walls first. The ball can only touch the floor once before you hit it and after that it can't touch the floor untill it touches the front wall.
    I hope this helps

  • @petereedy6092
    @petereedy6092 7 лет назад +305

    I have played, coached and refereed Squash for around 50 years (yep, I'm an old fart). In that time, I have had the pleasure of watching many of the greats playing live: Geoff Hunt, Jonah Barrington, Rod Martin and Rod Eyles and the imperious Jansher Khan (but sadly, not Jehangir).
    Statistically, Jansher and Jehangir are clearly the GOATS ('greatest of all time') of Squash -- followed closely by Hunt, Barrington, Hashim and a few others -- but for me, despite his smaller trophy cabinet (probably attributable to his chronic hamstring problem), Ramy Ashour is probably, in absolute terms, the best player ever (despite me not seeing him play live).
    Jehangir and Jansher had unbelievable playing and retrieving skills, but Ramy also has those skills, and an additional very important skill -- he sees the ball *very* early and volleys much more than they did (they seemed content to pick many balls off the back wall).
    Unfortunately, we can't really compare players from different eras properly, but for me Ramy is the GOAT -- even if you disagree with that, you might agree he is the most exciting and entertaining player -- and a great sportsman!
    BTW -- I'm from Australia, so no rose-coloured glasses here!

    • @kaledon6
      @kaledon6 6 лет назад +11

      Rackets were heavier for Jahangir and Jansher....Ramy ashour volley and anticipations skills became mush easier with modern squash rackets

    • @petereedy6092
      @petereedy6092 6 лет назад +5

      Rackets were indeed heavier in the 1980s during Jehangir's reign (160-180 gms?) -- but, as I recall, by the 90s (Jansher's reign) rackets were of similar weights to the typical rackets used by professionals today (125-135)
      But I add that Ramy has anticipation and volleying skills that are a class above all of his contemporaries (e.g. watch El Shorbagy play mostly ground strokes unless the ball is loose -- whereas Ramy is on the volley-attack at every opportunity)

    • @nomanbukhari737

      i could agree you if the great khans were placed in same situation or ramy in that era. Hashim and roshan khan were also magicuan had amazing nicks. qamar zaman the wrong footed back court dropper wass another. But sometimes you cant judge with mastery and tricks.

      Egypt in squash is way better than Brazil in football!!, at least nowadays, between the top ten guys in football I would say there is just one Brazilien (Neymar), 6 for Egypt in squash. In the last three World Championships Brazil just has reach a 4th position as their best performance, meanwhile Egyp has won 2 of the las 3 World Team Championships being finalist on the other

    It's not Ramy's best squash. As good as Wilstrop is, he's simply not in the same league as Ramy. I would nominate Ramy's 2014 El Gouna Classic win over Elshorbagy as some of the best squash ever played. It almost doesn't look like squash anymore--at least not the classic game played by Wilstrop et al.

    • @andres190393
      @andres190393 8 лет назад +5

      It seem he play better against Mohamed just because ElShorbagy play at a higher pace than Willstrop, he play fast and furious so he can beat Ashour with power and pace and Ashour keep his pace so the game become superfast and full of winners, meanwhile Willstrop play at a slower rithym trying to slow Ashour pace so he can´t play winners and looking for create good ocasion with accurate shots and make Ramy do mistakes, but he is superb in his style when he is in form!!, the proof is how he beat Elshorbagy on the World Championship last year

    • @bazza2974
      @bazza2974 5 лет назад +1

      I'm not entirely familiar with the rules but I'll try. The ball can only bounce once. But (except in the serve) it can go off any of the 4 walls first. If they do get in each other's way, it's a "let", which is what happened in the first point. And the English player also appealed for it in the last point. The judges make a decision as to whether it's a deliberate block, accidental block or no block at all.

      Wilstrop initially begun backhand swing preparation and so Ashour's movement would have cleared the ball based on the initial swing. James Wilstrop turned, and in doing so, chose not to hit the ball, giving him only a let, because he changed onto the backhand side. Had Wilstrop turned immediately to backhand preparation, it would have been stroke to Wilstrop.

He just skipped HK with an injury, gave up at the World Open with an injury, and retired from the US Open with an injury. And this has been happening for years. If this guy could just stay healthy, I shudder to think of the number of titles he'd have won by now. Hope he can lick this injury bug eventually.

    No. Ramy's best is yet to come. I am waiting for that. He is the best squash player ever seen in the recent history of squash. May ALLAH Bless him with more health and fitness. Ameen.

    Ramy knows when to smack and where and when to softly place the ball. James seemed to only just know how to smack during that game.

    Can someone explain to me why the ball hits the floor twice before Ramy hits it, but it's not a fault at 2:36 ???
    Edit: damn, forget it. It actually bounces on the back glass, and I just got fooled lol.

    This is a perfect example of heavy legs after a 90+ minute match the day before. Nonetheless, to beat Willstrop 6 minutes is unheard of.

    You need to take into consideration the outdoor venue will make the ball play deader so coupled with James bring stiff from day before it makes sense it took him 3 mind plus to get going.

    It’s easy to play great squash when the ball is played loose all the time and unfortunately a very tired Wilstrop wasn’t able to keep it anywhere near tight enough.
    The GOAT for me was without a doubt Jahangir. I have seen him play for hours up and down the wall keeping the ball so tight there really was no chance to attack, but I have also seen him play similar games to this. Probably the best game I saw was when things just weren’t working. Instead of getting frustrated, he just shut down those bits of his game and still managed to win comfortably.
    Unfortunately the 1980’s was probably when we saw squash at its peak and we are unlikely to see same level of talent again as there just isn’t enough players to push people to excel anymore. I’d love to be proved wrong here, but I think its going to take a huge resurgence in popularity to do it, and I can’t see that happening, at least not here in Australia anyway.
