Thank you for posting this, this is really for die hard fans, but it’s a part of their discography (kinda), deserves a place! Still waiting for the new album. Come on Matt, you already have new tracks just record them, pretty sure hum fans will not be disappointed. We all need it!
first time listener, and I can't imagine them doing a better album than this one. It's terrific -like another T S O L or or Husker Du? something. idk.. Hortense has a very weird sound to it.
@@CursedRaichu For sure! Although I don’t think many would consider Dinosaur Jr a hardcore or post-hardcore band. Only mentioning that because that’s specifically what I was referring to in my original comment. But they were definitely an influence on Hum!
you can hear the struggle between balty and the rest of the band for control of hum. Its an interesting document of what the two bands would become. I had forgotten all about this album until someone posted an anniversary for it on Facebook.
I can see why Hum chooses to not include this with the rest of their discography. It’s like a sneak peek of what they’d eventually become. Those last three or so minutes were a bridge to Electra 2000. Funnily enough, this album cover is the only one that has their name in all lowercase. While in the rest of their album covers, they have their name all uppercase.
I had (maybe still have?) this on cassette. I think I ordered it from Parasol records and the CDs were long gone so I had to get the cassette. Fun and surprisingly solid record! Pretty wild that within just a few years they'd evolve into the band that would create You'd Prefer an Astronaut?
they played my bar in birmingham alabama.....sent from nick from sluggo;s in pensacola...to see if i could add them....i made them open for the other two bands...and both band said,,,,,let them play and give them the door...we spent 5 bucks to get here and they have to go to illinois
So funny to revisit Hum before they were... well, Hum!! Certainly "Fillet Show" contains intimations of Hum-to-be, but they're still very much inchoate...
FYI, track 7 "Lip Saga" (which starts at 18:35 and ends at around 20:57 with a hardcut) is cut in half. Otherwise thanks for uploading the rest of the album and all in one video too!
This reminds me alot of what I like about the more obscure parts of Nirvana's discography. The sloppyness, the angst, the apathy, the punk rock avant garde-ishness of the guitar playing. Reminds me alot of Nirvana.

It may not have their best but there is still a lot of good stuff on this LP. Hum fans can clearly hear what was to be. All others are clueless and listen to JZ and Snoop Dog anyway.
Wow. I can see why they are embarrassed about this album. I was like, "How bad could it be?" But it's pretty bad, relative to them. It's better than a lot of stuff that was out there. But you can totally tell they pulled the best parts out and utilized them perfectly later.
wish this was on spotify
Same but for Apple Music.
And I thought I had found it all. Thank you from a Hum fan from the 90's.

How do you like the new record? haha
CantFightRobots I absolutely love the new album. Surpassed expectations, incredible.
stoned gizzard Yup. Inlet is incredible. Tool fans thought they waited a long time
I'm glad you dig Inlet! It definitely exceeded my expectations, as well!!
You can definitely hear Hum’s post-hardcore roots on this album; sounds a lot like Fugazi, Moss Icon, or Shudder to Think.
Maybe some Dinosaur Jr. too? I know that’s one of Matt’s biggest influences.

Hum and Mother/Menthol
Have you heard their demo Kissing Me is Like Kissing Angel? Same struggle, with B having a greater influence on that album.
I love this grungy, noisy 90's grunge sound. Hum

Like this more than I thought I would tbh
Hum is amazing in all they do..
Staring at the Sun, reminds me of old Meat Puppets.

Space Fuck is a really cool song. Would fit right on Electra 2000.

Not too shabby ... great things in their future I must say!!! 💀
Hortense bass line is nice
I always though I disliked this release, but I really don't. Maybe it's not Astronaut or Downward but it's got it's charms.
This is such a fun album, but I can understand why Hum would want to take a more serious approach in the future
Way better than Trout Mask Replica.
Haha!
Good one
