Sorry I've been gone so long, but here's why and here's what's next. ❤️ Want to support the channel? I'd love a donation at paypal.me/homeautomationguy
Would be very interested to hear what didn;t work and what has been removed. We often see smart home channels talking about the latest newest thing, but then never hear about it again. Was it actually useful or did it never really work?
Welcome back. I had to change my whole home assistant setup to cater for caring for someone and the fact that it has a direct impact on home life is amazing.
The automated dog treat dispenser is great.... until the dog catches on how it works and starts ordering stuff just to have a delivery person ring the door bell.
I’ve only recently got into smart home stuff and your videos have been utterly indispensable. I really like your presentation style and it’s great to hear more videos are on the way.
Thanks for all your content. Really appreciate and value the way you communicate and show ways to better automate the home. I will be on a quest to build my perfect smart home in about a year, so I’ll be sure to use your videos as a guide
Welcome back - love the personal pics, and the update - you have been missed. I would love a smart home tour, and I am particularly interested in lessons learned from some of the less than ideal choices that were made (I learn all to often from my own mistakes so any time I can learn from someone else's...).
GREAT to see you back and I cant wait to see the new content! The nest home mini brains replacement sounds awesome...Ive got some atom echo's dotted around the house running 'hello skywalker' at the moment...but I still rely on the G Home products for basics like timers etc
Omggg! These are all of the things I’m struggling with in my own smart home. I can’t wait for your upcoming videos. The reality and follow up on new products is so important. Looking forward to it. Hope you’re doing well.
I've certainly missed your videos Alan, but glad that you took time out. Also super glad and looking forward to hearing about the transition into the new place. What worked, what didn't. There are so many ways these days.
First off..... Congratulations!!!! You and your partner look quite happy. I'm really glad you're back. You have been instrumental in helping me with my smart home discussions and teaching me a lot of the way. Thanks so much and welcome back.
So glad to see you're back, and completely understand life taking precedence. One topic I'd love to see you address is how should we approach selling a house where we have set up a lot of our own DIY automations.
I would really love to see what adjustments you have made around the puppy. It seems all smart home channels center around pet-free homes, so many ideas don't work in my own, with several dogs and cats in the way. I'd also love a tour in general.
Welcome back and Congratulations! Good to hear all is well. It looks like another year of accelerated HA development and the community needs all the best content creators it can get, and I consider you to be one of best! Thank you for all the great content and I will be watching.
Good to have you back Alan - you were one of the YT's to get me into Home Assistance, which I've really enjoyed, watching your vids. Would love to see a video in of home setup! Looking forward to more vids from you dude. And congrates on your wedding & new puppy.
Welcome back! Glad to see the update video and to see you are doing well. I think yes to all the suggestions, but I’m particularly interested in the Unifi kit and how it’s performed as I’m looking to do the same soon. Plus, I’d be interested to see your energy monitoring guide too.
Yea! My favourite home automation channel is back! Especially interested to hear about the power monitoring stuff. 450W is impressive for all the stuff you have!
Just bought my first house which needs major renovations and part of the renovation is having it as smart as possible including moving to home assistant. Really interested in how you do all the power monitoring
Thanks for the update Alan! Congrats to you and your partner! Glad to see you have a new addition to the family as well! 🐾❤ Yes, all of the topics that you mentioned would be really great! Especially, a smart home tour and what has worked and not worked as you expected. Another video idea would be to showcase the devices and automations that your partner really likes. Take care and have a good weekend! Sending you some 💷
Welcome back! Marriage is one of the most important things in life. The automation stuff comes second. Take your time for the new videos. Anyway, we are here and we are waiting for them!
Welcome back! Enjoy your videos😊 We all have very specific needs at times. In my case, I would love to have a zigbee sensor that tells me water level in a well that collects rainwater. No off the shelf products for this use case. How do I get started?
I don't know about ZigBee. But I've seen people use ESP devices with an ultrasonic distance sensor mounted to the top of the well or container. This can then measure the distance to the top of the liquid and you can infer the level from that
Thank god you have posted something. I know I'm just a stranger, but not seeing anything for so long I thought something bad had happened. I'm glad I'm wrong and it's that some GOOD things have happened and that you're just busy. Life is good and that's what counts. Meanwhile, I'll just wait until you post something new. Hope that leak gets fixed and I'd find a way of putting a leak detecting sensor in there - just, how would you change the batteries!?
Good to see you again. My two cents: Frigate vs. the new local cats. I can understand if your puppy took care of the cats, but secretly I'm hoping for something more creative. A combination. An automation: Frigate detects a cat, the puppy gets a treat and the sprinklers in the garden go at full blast? Something like that. (Please?)
Great you are back Alan, you have a great manner of presenting - still subbed and waiting for videos to drop in your own time. Bet that the puppy keeps you busy.🐕
Good to see you back again. I'd love a tour of your smart home. We recently got a puppy. He's a mad Spaniel who's always on the go. I love the automatic treat dispenser you have. Such a good idea to distract the dog when the doorbell rings. Have you got a link to the product? How many treats does it take to keep your dog distracted? Our Spaniel would just hoover up any treats, then go back to barking at the door. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more about your smart home journey, and I hope you get the roof sorted 😊.

Welcome back and Congratulations!! I have earlier installed Home assistant as an OS. I have now installed everything with docker compose and everything is running, but it is not as easy to make everything talk with each other now as it was when it was just plugins. Some video on how to set up automation when you run home assistant, mqtt, zigbee and node red in docker and if it's best to automate in ha or in node red would be very useful for me
I have a whole playlist about Docker and Home Assistant on my channel if that helps. But unfortunately I've never used Node-Red - I've just always used the normal HA automations
Would love to get a guide on the Nest Hub Mini replacement, went down a rabbit hole when Richard Campbell mentioned it on Windows Weekly. Got them fairly cheaply from CEX and now just need to get it up and running with those custom pcb
Welcome Back, i was hoping to see you back, as i have some question for my setup of home assistant, I run it on a PI4 for starting and some testing but i want to go to my UNRAID. I want to use UNRAID is it good for HA ? if so... how should i set it up VM or Docker ? and any other insight or info before starting the setup?
Welcome back! I was watching your other video about Relays. I was wondering what's your view on this new relay - SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 ? It doesn't need neural! One to look into this & make video?
I am in the process of rebuilding my home assistant. 1. If I pair bulbs in mqtt can I still use Blueprints. 2 setting up frigette to use Poe cameras through Matt. 3 port forwarding or similar so I can see the camera recording when not at home. 4. Randomising lights options Thanks for the great videos
Congrats on getting married and getting your pet dog. These changes can certainly take you away from the RUclips videos and I will still look forward to seeing ewhat you discover changing automations to be pet friendly!
Welcome back, I have missed your videos.. And I once went to see if it was one of these cases when RUclips unsubscribes you without a reason.. But glad to hear you are back and all is well
I would love to see a video on a whole house power monitoring. I’m moving into my (UK) flat in the next few months and I’m struggling to figure out what the best solution is to monitor everything in one go.
Welcome back! So glad to see you happy and well. You have the same robot vacuum that I have. Did you integrate it with HA? I couldn't do it in the Philips app
Oh man - it's such a pain in the neck to set up! I've been thinking about making a video about it, but it's so damn complex that it scares me to take the project on! My brother uses the Telegram integration and it's so much easier to set up. Maybe I'll get the motivation in the next few months to give it a go, I really do love my Signal integration.
It was a bit of both, if you count a dog as a little one 😉. There are unfortunately only so many hours in the day, and I had to prioritise the day job for a bit there because owning a house and having a smart home addiction is expensive!! Thanks for the comment and support!
As some who also has a furry best friend, It would be cool to see how you solve some of the challenges having a dog brings to the smart home. Welcome back :)
Nope.... home will never be 'Done'. Welcome back.
Thank you so much!
Would be very interested to hear what didn;t work and what has been removed. We often see smart home channels talking about the latest newest thing, but then never hear about it again. Was it actually useful or did it never really work?
I 100% agree. I want my channel to reflect as much of reality as possible, not just the shiny happy moments.
the open source local home assistant voice assistant sounds awesome :)
Welcome back. I had to change my whole home assistant setup to cater for caring for someone and the fact that it has a direct impact on home life is amazing.
The automated dog treat dispenser is great.... until the dog catches on how it works and starts ordering stuff just to have a delivery person ring the door bell.
Congrats on the wedding!!! Welcome back :) Hope the ceiling can get fixed soon!
Congrats on life! Tour! Welcome back.
Thank you 🙏
I’ve only recently got into smart home stuff and your videos have been utterly indispensable. I really like your presentation style and it’s great to hear more videos are on the way.
yeah, great to see you back, I've taken on most of your automations, particularly moving HA from RPie to a laptop running docker, love it
Thanks for all your content. Really appreciate and value the way you communicate and show ways to better automate the home. I will be on a quest to build my perfect smart home in about a year, so I’ll be sure to use your videos as a guide

Great to hear from hear and know you and yours are doing well. I'm convinced that building a smart home is a journey not a destination.
Omggg! These are all of the things I’m struggling with in my own smart home. I can’t wait for your upcoming videos. The reality and follow up on new products is so important. Looking forward to it. Hope you’re doing well.

Very excited to have you back! Love to get your journey for local voice been playing with this as well.
I would really love to see what adjustments you have made around the puppy. It seems all smart home channels center around pet-free homes, so many ideas don't work in my own, with several dogs and cats in the way. I'd also love a tour in general.

Same here, nothing else was as well structured and clear to understand as this channel. Thanks so much for getting me into this amazing hobby
Welcome back brother...
Your channel and work is really helpful...
Wish you all the best 👍👍👍
Congratulations on starting your stock wedding and puppy footage business!
Congrats mate! So happy for you
Nice to know you've spent some of your life on the really important stuff! Congratulations!
Welcome back! Glad to see the update video and to see you are doing well. I think yes to all the suggestions, but I’m particularly interested in the Unifi kit and how it’s performed as I’m looking to do the same soon. Plus, I’d be interested to see your energy monitoring guide too.
Great suggestions, thank you!
Welcome back. Great to hear things are going well and a congratulations on your wedding and new puppy.
Smart home tour would be nice to see
this channel has been my go to resource for everything home assistant related - would love a pi-hole tutorial from you!!
Jim's garage is worth a look.
A tour and the best and worst choices sounds good. It could be really helpful.
AWESOME! So glad you are back and well! 🎉

You're an absolute legend - thank you so much 😍
Great to have you back!
Congratulations!
Also that consumer unit looks :chefs-kiss:. I'd love to hear more about that and the energy monitoring.
Welcome back! Life always comes first!
really glad to hear from you. also glad to see why you took a break. happy for you!
Welcome back! Yes to all the suggested future videos 😁 Also: were is all the usage in your rack coming from. 200+ Watts seems like a lot.

Glad to see you back. Congrats on the wedding and dog!
Was waiting for an update - thanks! 👍
Good to see you back! Would love to see a video on home automation with dogs!

Welcome back! Marriage is one of the most important things in life. The automation stuff comes second.
Take your time for the new videos. Anyway, we are here and we are waiting for them!
I like to see a smart home tour in the future!
Glad you're back!!
You now have an automated Pavlovs dog experiment :)
Nice to have you back :)
Just discovered this channel, really appreciate the content. Just bought a home and it has helped me get up to speed on the home automation options.
Glad to hear it! I hope you find the newer stuff I'm working on useful too!
Welcome back! Enjoy your videos😊

yeah please make both videos!! missed your content
Welcome back! Glad to see you again :) Is your dog a Visla?
Congrats! And welcome back, looking forward to your new videos.
Thank you! ☺️
Glad to see you back
Lol, I was recently wondering about not seeing videos from you. I learned a lot from them. Glad to see you're doing well.

Thank you so much! He sure does keep me busy, but he's a lot of fun. 🐶

Good on you Alan! Love the puppy and good to hear you are keeping well. Beers when I’m in London in July?
Congratulations dude.
Welcome back and congratulations! I'd say you had a VERY GOOD reason for being absent for a while.
Would love to get a guide on the Nest Hub Mini replacement, went down a rabbit hole when Richard Campbell mentioned it on Windows Weekly. Got them fairly cheaply from CEX and now just need to get it up and running with those custom pcb
Who are you again? 😂
Good to see you back. I thought you were lost down the home automation rabbit hole.
Great to see you back! Looking forward to your plans
Thank you! ❤️
Welcome Back, i was hoping to see you back, as i have some question for my setup of home assistant,

puppy related automations would be an awesome topic :D
I'm still working on those - he is really really good at breaking anything I try to set up for him 🤣
I am in the process of rebuilding my home assistant.
1. If I pair bulbs in mqtt can I still use Blueprints.
2 setting up frigette to use Poe cameras through Matt.
3 port forwarding or similar so I can see the camera recording when not at home.

Welcome back!!
Welcome back
Glad to see you back. Looking forward to future videos.
Thank you so much!
Welcome back…you were missed…😊
I would love to see a video on a whole house power monitoring. I’m moving into my (UK) flat in the next few months and I’m struggling to figure out what the best solution is to monitor everything in one go.
Yeaa, he's back!
Yeah I am!
Welcome back!
So glad to see you happy and well.
You have the same robot vacuum that I have.
Did you integrate it with HA?
I couldn't do it in the Philips app
I integrated the Roborock into Home Assistant using the Xiaomi Miio integration. But there's now a Roborock integration as well which you could try.
Welcome back, would love to see a video/code for how you are getting Frigate notifications in Signal! I still haven’t been able to work it out
Oh man - it's such a pain in the neck to set up! I've been thinking about making a video about it, but it's so damn complex that it scares me to take the project on! My brother uses the Telegram integration and it's so much easier to set up.

What a beauiful vizsla!
Glad you're back, I've wondered if you got the good ol' RUclips creator fatigue or if you got a little one 😊
It was a bit of both, if you count a dog as a little one 😉.
There are unfortunately only so many hours in the day, and I had to prioritise the day job for a bit there because owning a house and having a smart home addiction is expensive!! Thanks for the comment and support!
+1 for a smart home tour
I am waiting for the video when a neighbor dog rings the bell over and over to feed his in-doors friend 🙂
I be very interested in some of the adjustment and pet automation.
Hey. Welcome back. Can’t wait for future videos. 👍🏻
Thank you so much!
He's back!
Yeah boi!
Side projects never get finished. They become part of the household chores :)
Yes for home tour!
Deal 🤝
As some who also has a furry best friend, It would be cool to see how you solve some of the challenges having a dog brings to the smart home. Welcome back :)
I think that oldmate likes having the lights automatically turn on when he walks into a room 😊
Welcome Back
Thank you so much!
OOOH I have an old google device I'd love to convert!
Yes please, would love a smart home tour video
Working on it ☺️
@@HomeAutomationGuy yay, I look forward to it
Good to see you here again
Thank you!
She must love home automation because you are punching way above your weight. Congratulations.
