Many of us have had loved ones die after living with dementia. It is such a cruel disease for the afflicted as well as for those loved ones who care for the stricken. For those whose deaths were dementia related, we will sorely miss them and will remember the goodness of their lives. We also rejoice that they are now free from the tyranny of dementias claws. Rest in peace.

Caring for a loved one 24/7 takes a big toll on you and the resultant stress sneaks up on you when you least expect it. See if you can find some community organizations such as Alzheimer's society which can help with respite.
I truly don't know which is worse. To go through years of caring for a loved one with dementia or alzheimers or to lose your loved one at a young age of something like breast cancer. My mother died a horrible death at 51 from breast cancer, and because she was so young and her heart was so strong, she suffered terribly. Still the suffering was only for months, not the years that the families of alzheimer sufferers go through. But you do lose your mother so young rather than having her with you into old age. You definitely lose those years. Can you see why I just don't know which is worse? I think both are horrible and both are a battle of their own that we have to go through. I was 27 when my mom died, so my young heart bore up under the stress and heartache. I learned lessons that I took with me for the rest of my life. I'm 70 years old now and my mom would be 94. If she had alzheimers or dementia right now, and I was trying to care for her at this age, I believe it would be very, very hard. Not impossible by any means, but heart breaking. I think it's never easy to lose your mom.

8-16-77, the day before my 12th birthday, Mom & I were going to the store when we heard them announce Elvis's death on the radio. And it became an international period of mourning. People from all over the world rushed to Graceland to say goodbye. I've never seen anything else like it, not even close. Bless all who mourn. We will remember.
I was 18 when I saw Gena Rowlands in the movie Gloria. I was mesmerized by what a badass she was not only on film but in real life as well. It unlocked the door for me to be an independent woman who could achieve what I put my mind to. I saw his biography on TV, interesting man, he also worked at Motown briefly. His original recipe was the best, I did enjoy his cookies.
