being this vulnerable and being able to brave the raw emotions is one of the many reasons you're one of my favorite people in the world of music. Mitch is missed dearly everyday
That Summer 2006 tour was a gnarly one. So grateful to share the road with you guys. Quick Mitch story - we were playing a show on that Spreading The Disease tour and we’re half way through the tour, the shows are really good, confidence is high. We hit stage before you guys, halfway through set, halfway through a song…Mitch pants me like you mention at 1:18:02 in front of the whole crowd and I’m fully exposed. It felt like 10 minutes before I could get my wits together and not fuck up the riff I was playing. I tried to get Mitch back on that tour but he always evaded. Miss those days and that time in the industry. Proud of you Garza and everything you’ve done.
im at the lowest part of my life right now and watching this episode really helps so much. seeing another person going through this pain and letting emotions shine when men are expected to be tough has really really helped. Thanks Chris
hang in there man, when you pull through it you'll be stronger and wiser from it. also you never know whos life you will impact from your struggles and hardships!
I went to a Warped Tour in St Louis, Missouri and I was a hopelessly nerdy and awkward kid. I was walking with my head down so nervously walking to the next stage. A guy started walking besides me looking at me and I could sense it was in a friendly and comforting way. I eventually looked up. The guy put his arm around me and said “keep your head up. You’re going to be the man one day”. After the initial shock of realizing it was Mitch Lucker I tried to say thank you but couldn’t get out the words. That act of kindness by him eventually altered the course of my life. RIP Mitch!!! You will never be forgotten
@@Greg-rv5vm a whole lot of self-destructive & reckless legends out there. personal struggles and poor personal life choices don't undermine the legendary work they did. sit this one out.
Was in a local band in so cal some years ago, opened for ss, you were the only dude who were actually kind to us at the venue. Thanks for sharing all of this dude. ❤
My brother ended his life on November 1st 2018. Losing him was the worst day of my life and I’m still going thru it, especially this time of year. Thank you for being real about grief. Mitch will never be forgotten 🕊️
I remember opening a show at the Clubhouse in Tempe AZ with Light This City, All Shall Perish, and you guys. Mitch just had this presence about him..an aura. I know it was a long time ago, but you all were the best to hang with after the show. That night helped shape my music career and I will never forget that night. Thank you for everything and for the joy you have brought to a lot of people. RIP Mitch.
Much respect for everything Chris. Thanks for opening up about this heavy topic, i felt the love you were radiating throughout. You and Mitch are legends and your music will live on forever, you continue to inspire many of us! Rest easy Mitch
Mitch is my fucking hero. Thank you for this. I heard no pity for a coward once, and thought "that's exactly how vocals should be done." Spent the next two years blowing out my voice, trying to replicate it. Thank you for this. I can tell it was tough.
As a long time Suicide Silence and Mitch Lucker fan I gotta say thank you so much for this Garza! You guys were my first deathcore band (even first extreme metal band if I'm being honest) and Mitch to this day is one of my biggest inspirations. I have watched/listened most of the episodes of the podcast but damn this one made me emotional.
Still remember the day Mitch left us, I felt like I just lost a very close friend. I had been listening to SS since 07 and it was a big thing for me since it was the first really heavy band I got into... RIP Mitch Lucker. Gone but never forgotten.
respect for how you handled this. it's clear it was difficult for you and I appreciate how honest you were. you painted a picture of Mitch that represents his flaws and also what made him great. you were also critical of yourself and showed a lot of vulnerability. you didn't have to do that and I think it's really cool for us fans that you did.
I just visited him on October 20th of this year. & the tears still flow down my face. He was a remarkable friend and a great musician. Much love Garza. We are all here for you Buddy much love
Thank you Chris. I'm still shock for the death of my grandpa, I don't know how to process grief. Your bravery on this episode is something really special and impacful. Thank you so much brother, I send you love and I always remember the show that your band did in Chile on 2016. LOVED IT. Legends!
I was in a band in 08' and we got to play before you guys in Little Rock Arkansas. It was a big show right on the river and it was the most killer day... was you guys, Killswitch Engage, Disturbed and like 15 other great bands... we played a side stage a band or two before u guys right when Unanswered was really breaking and blowing minds... so many great bands played that day but my main memories were how cool u guys were and that David Draiman from Disturbed took time to watch our band from side stage. Definitely some drinking took place that day! We shared some beers and shot the shit. Mitch had a stage presence that was unmatched. Y'all took that place by storm and shattered minds. I'll never forget that day man. Thank u for sharing these stories about Mitch with us. ✌️ & ❤ brother!
I met you mark and mitch in Salt Lake in late 09, maybe 10. I could tell you were super introverted, being one myself. It's been good watching you grow and become more of the person you want to be. You get what you get. It might not alway be what you want, but like you said, it's what you need. RIP Mitch.
Bro I was at that show too. Do you remember by chance who else played that night? I think I remember Chelsea Grin playing that night and Alex hitting his face with the mic and bleeding all over but I can't remember who else played.
I really don't remember, bro. All I remember was they closed with engine #9. Good times tho, for sure. I was in a deathcore band at the time, and had played that same stage like two weeks earlier. We just talked to them about how to get to the next level and influences in music. Mostly Mark. We saw them again when they came through on the Korn support tour at SaltAir, saw Mark again in the crowd after the show, and he fucking remembered us.
Raw + Real. I lost my best friend when he was 25. Most talented musician I’ve ever known. Hearing this definitely resonates in so many levels. Brotherhood is real.
I have so much respect for you Garza, it takes so much courage and strength to share your stories and emotions! I still remember seeing you all at With Full Force 2012 in Leipzig. Germany as if it was yesterday just months before his passing. I still have the Memorial tshirt of him "Make Every Second Divine"
Saw you guys in OKC, like maybe a month after i heard Y.O.L.O. I was walking around the Zoo amphitheater to meet some friends and you guys had been on for a song or 2, but I remember looking over and seeing the biggest circle pit I had ever seen goin at the side stage. I was blown away! You guys destroyed that show!!
The cleansing and Mitch and your riffs got me into Deathcore! I saw you guys in Germany back in the day, still have the tour shirt. The tour was called BeastFest. And it was an amazing experience seeing you guys. I hope you soon release new music, been deep diving into the material with Eddie. Self titled, you can't stop me, and become the hunter. I kinda stopped listening for a while since Mitch died.. because he was such an inspiration for me. But I really love your material, all of it in its own way! Best regards from Sweden Garza! ❤ Those who truly live, can never die! Legends live forever!!
I never heard of you or your band before i saw this on youtube. Sorry for your loss. But your really good at everything you do. And you were also a good friend to Mitch and still are
Much respect for this upload, brother. Takes an immense amount of courage to be this open about something so tough. You’re the goat and always will be!
Thanks for doin' this Garza, really amazing to hear the stories, and take some time to just remember one hell of a dude. Much love homie, and RIP to Mitch, such a legend!! Very, very missed. 😞
This was beautiful, raw and real. Thank you for sharing your heart. Mitch was always one of my favorite vocalists, he and I met once at a show in Bigflats NY 2009 we bumped into each other walking around and just started talking, he was SUPER nice and friendly, asked me my name and took a picture with me and actually gave me a hug and it was so surreal because it was just like a fluke thing we ran into each other no one else around.. just he and I chatting for a minute and i'm forever grateful for how nice he was to me. Thank you again for speaking your truth and just know that you never have to get over his loss, grief can last forever and that's ok because the people we lose are always with us.
What a great episode! You’re so brave Chris, you really are mate. It takes so much courage to be this vulnerable and I really appreciate you for doing this Chris. We all love and miss Mitch and to think it’s been 12 years is absolutely insane and time really doesn’t wait for anyone. Thank you for letting us share your story’s and thank you again for being who you are and what you do. RIP Mitch 🤘
November 1st 2012. I was 22 years old. Hopped on Facebook and saw the news. I was fkn shocked. Glad I got to see Mitch live. He was a badass on stage for the ones who never got the chance to see him!!!
I was 17. I was going to see Falling in Reverse and learned of his passing at the show. I was devastated. I was supposed to go see them live in a month or so after that FIR show. But sadly, I never got to see him. RIP Mitch. It was SS and Whitechapel that got me into this.
I got to play with SS back in the day at CA Metalfest V and saw you guys multiple times with Mitch. I had to leave work when i heard about Mitch because he was truly my idol. Thanks for keeping his legacy alive. Much love bros.
He will always be my biggest Inspiration , never met him but I had a interaction with him at swetfest 07 riverstage Brisbane my mate and I where in the pit and on the top balcony above the stage we saw mitch and started jumping and waving , and with the spliff or ciggie still in his hand gives us the devil horns , he saw us waving and carrying on from 100m away , saw it , then gave us props . Life changing moment and still a vocalist years later
Chris I love you brother. I know what you’re going through. I lost my little brother going on 3 years at end of this month. If I could hug you right now I would. You’re stronger now and you have Mitch as a watchful protector.
Great episode, thanks for sharing Garza. I remember when I heard the news, I put the black crown on the record player, witness the addiction brought me to tears. R.I.P Mitch
Love this podcast and was a huge fan of Mitch and saw you guys back in 07 and suicide silence became a big influence for me. Very sorry for the loss gone but will never be forgotten. R.I.P.
Thank you Garza . This video helped me process as well because Mitch and your band was a staple in my childhood/teen year influence. You’re the best man .🤘🏻
It just goes to show. We never take a moment for granted. We all need to let things go. Life is to short to hang on to bullshit. We need to learn to love one another. Thank you for this story. I know it must hurt to relive all those memories.
Man, i cant blame you for being caught in some silent moments ive watched and listened to alot.of ss stuff and bro you guys are incredible. He died way too.young he will always be a true deathcore legend! Youre a beast of a guitar player dude!
Been rocking all of your albums all last month! Thank you for all that you do, and that your music has done for me since I first discovered that I loved heavy metal.
My best friend from childhood died in a tragic accident in 2011, I think about him every single day. It's weird how time passes and no matter how long it's been, it still feels like yesterday.
Brutal but beautiful episode . Still so proud to have brought yall to my hometown for the first time ( Ventura , ca) and to have watched you grow , struggle and overcome . Top notch dudes and band in my book
We love you Garza. I’ll never forget that show with All Shall Perish, Light this city and too pure to die at Soma San Diego. You guys were my favorite band. Be a pillar and stay strong. RIP Mitch Forever. The God.
So so sorry for your loss brother . I wouldn’t be a massive suicide silence fan but I absolutely love your podcast and yiu as a person … and I live here in a small coastal town in Ireland . Take care my friend ❤
I hate you lost a brother Chris. I lost mine in November also, every year I can’t help but have some dread when that time rolls around. Unfortunately things happen in life we have no choice or control over. You guys built something that was absolutely awesome, despite his passing nothing can change what you all accomplished. I hate you and the rest of the band had to try to move on and got so much bs from people who have no idea what you were going through. Despite all, I’m proud you carried on. Mitch should be remembered no doubt, but you and the rest of the guys deserve to be happy killing it on stage, along with keeping his legacy alive. Chris you’re a badass in so many ways, just being you
Thanks Chris. This came out of nowhere for me. Heavy shit homie. How you describe yourself as "mute" and with a "stutter". I didn't know that about you. How ironic that you now do a podcast and moreover just spoke solo for two hour straight about such a personal and tough subject. Guess you've come a long way. Love the band; love the legacy. Get your asses over to Seoul, South Korea ASAP.
I can't even begin to tell you how cathartic this was for me. My best friends passed away August 10th, I met him at work in 2012, we started jamming in 2014, and we jammed nearly every single friday after work. The group got bigger and bigger and everyone knew us as the jam dudes. 10 straight years of jamming, concerts, trips, late night talks. The silver lining is we recorded ALL of it, and uploaded about 700 tracks to soundcloud so I can always go back and listen. We're still jamming to this day in his memory, in fact it's jam night tonight. Angels Son is exactly what I listen to when I want to 'let it out', along with Tool, he was the biggest Tool fan. His wife and I made a playlist that we share, the very first song she put on there was "Last Breath". Again, thank you so much for doing this, 12 years seems like a long time to process grief but, I'm afraid I'm only just beginning.
I saw you and SS play Salt Lake in 2009 with Chelsea Grin. The show was wild, and when SS started playing things got wild. I was with my little brother who was probably around 12 at the time. The crowd was rowdy and he was getting pushed around and I couldn't do much to help him stay up. One of your stage hands snatched my brother up and put him on the stage right next to you guys and Mitch. He often remembers that as one of his favorite concert moments of all time, and it was without a doubt one of the heaviest shows I've ever been to. Love you bro. Thanks for doing this.
Mitch was the sole reason i wanted to pursue screaming at the age of 16. When i saw him perform with SS for the first time, i became obsessed with the vocals and wondered how someone could do that started learning harsh vocals that night. His death has always rocked me as a creative and a musician. Thank you for sharing your vulnerablabily with us, Garza sending love, brother ❤️
Appreciate you sharing this Chris, it’s a huge part of your life, you’re definitely a inspiration to me and my band Detest the Throne, Mitch’s legacy will always be there and him being a brother of yours is a very beautiful thing in this life❤️
Since 2019, I lost 12 people in a row bro!! My Mom was 2019! My best friend and his Mom in 2020! My ex-girlfriend who I was with for 16 years and my brother in law also passed as well! Keep your head up Chris!! I feel your pain brother!! Losing people sucks!! 👍
I remember meeting all the dudes from chimaira and suicide silence at a meet and greet back in the day and was fortunate enough to meet mitch and got eveyones autograph on the tour poster, super cool moment in my life. We hear you, and we see you Chris were all in this with you. Keep on keepin on brother and Rest in peace Mitch 🙏🏻 🤘🏻
I remember the day so vividly. I remember seeing his last tweet and I still go back and look at it every so often. It doesn’t feel that long ago it’s really nuts to think it’s been 12 years already. RIP a fucking legend
Mitch is an absolute legend. He's always been a huge influence to me as a frontman. To hear you share stories about the kind of man he was is truly awesome bro.
Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing so much. I know this wasn’t an easy episode. I want you to know it is so appreciated and means so very much to hear you talk about Mitch in such a raw in honest way. I wish I could give you a hug and tell you in person that I am grateful to hear all of these stories and memories from time this time in life. I will forever be grateful for the music of Suicide Silence. Very few bands you can feel the emotion in the music. It’s something very special and you guys definitely have that special gift. Music is definitely my therapy. Thanks for being so open and raw it’s a huge part of my admiration and respect I have for you. I think that you have definitely honored your buddy/your band mate in the best way possible. The you honor him by being you, by being your best self, the way you have grown into a man from being a mess and what you have done with the band. Fantastic episode. You have done a great job going into the future of suicide silence and with that you honor him in the best way possible ❤thank you! I really hope you tour soon cause this ost tour was one of the best shows I have ever seen with Chelsea Grin on the last tour. Seriously I’m a little older than most and it’s one of my top shows I have ever gone to out of more shows then I can count at this point.

Thank you Garza . This video helped me process as well because Mitch and your band was a staple in my childhood/teen year influence. You’re the best man .🤘🏻
Thanks for sharing your stories with Mitch. Rip Mitch Lucker
We love you Chris stay strong. God bless
It just goes to show. We never take a moment for granted. We all need to let things go. Life is to short to hang on to bullshit. We need to learn to love one another. Thank you for this story. I know it must hurt to relive all those memories.
Dude you’re a legend and so is Mitch. Thank you for the stories and the music. Very much love from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mitch Deserves to be in Hall Of Fame
Brutal but beautiful episode . Still so proud to have brought yall to my hometown for the first time ( Ventura , ca) and to have watched you grow , struggle and overcome . Top notch dudes and band in my book
We love you Garza. I’ll never forget that show with All Shall Perish, Light this city and too pure to die at Soma San Diego. You guys were my favorite band. Be a pillar and stay strong. RIP Mitch Forever. The God.
Thanks Garza! You guys keep up the great work!
So so sorry for your loss brother . I wouldn’t be a massive suicide silence fan but I absolutely love your podcast and yiu as a person … and I live here in a small coastal town in Ireland . Take care my friend ❤
Man this is raw. Huge respect for doing this.
We love you, Garza!
Shout out Garza and crew. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing dude
I hate you lost a brother Chris. I lost mine in November also, every year I can’t help but have some dread when that time rolls around. Unfortunately things happen in life we have no choice or control over. You guys built something that was absolutely awesome, despite his passing nothing can change what you all accomplished. I hate you and the rest of the band had to try to move on and got so much bs from people who have no idea what you were going through. Despite all, I’m proud you carried on. Mitch should be remembered no doubt, but you and the rest of the guys deserve to be happy killing it on stage, along with keeping his legacy alive. Chris you’re a badass in so many ways, just being you
Man this was heavy Garza, thanks for sharing your stories. RIP Mitch 🙏🏼
Thank you bro
Long live the GOAT. Mitch WAS AND STILL IS UNMATCHED. THAT VOICE WAS SOMETHING THAT CAN NEVER BE REPLACED OR TOPPED. REST EASY KING
Love you Garza. Great ep ❤
Thank you for sharing! Much love. ❤
Much love Garza 🤘
It was really very sad but also very nice to hear these stories from Mitch and Suicide Silence. Thank you for that, take care and stay as you are.
You'This is the first podcast in a long time that I just sat and listened to without doing anything else. Very cool man. Thanks!
Probably my biggest vocal influence and inspiration after Corey Taylor. LEGEND
i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing that night.
not alone Garza.
much love brother
Crazy to believe it’s been 12 years now still feels like we lost Mitch not long ago. Garza thanks for sharing and sorry for your loss brotha
Really appreciate the vulnerability and shared stories. Can’t be easy, and as a fan it means a lot
I’ve loved SS since 2010 so it was really cool, sad and eye opening to hear you open up. As a long time fan, I’m proud of you dude
I remember the day so vividly. I remember seeing his last tweet and I still go back and look at it every so often. It doesn’t feel that long ago it’s really nuts to think it’s been 12 years already. RIP a fucking legend
Garza having the courage to post this and be vulnerable, grief never gets easier, RIP Mitch
Mitch is an absolute legend. He's always been a huge influence to me as a frontman. To hear you share stories about the kind of man he was is truly awesome bro.
I’m honoured to have met both of you and shaken your hands! Thank for talking about this!
Thanks for sharing these really personal details man. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this is to talk about. Stay strong.
