Thanks for the mention. It was my wife and I who stopped to chat after we got off the Lincoln to Leicester service. Great to meet you at last, we always enjoy your videos.
This is a great station to come to, it would have been nice to have had the HSTs coming and going but then that's down to me for not coming here more often when they were in operation
I love Nottingham railway station, sooooo maaaanyyy fond and amazing memories made there. My favorite train was service to London SP -made many journeys with it during my Wrasmus staty in Nottingham at 2022.I miss you Nottingham soo much . 😊
Thanks for another great vlog. You've just reminded me. Very rarely and a long, long time ago now I got the train from Leicester to Nottingham to get the train to Skegness.
😀 to the great tornado, this vido was great from the start to it finsh, then as it start you went mad trying to get the words out, but it did not work. by the way my name is sue ellen woodward, . my husband, where just having a drink when you started ,this is the best one yet. know i have 2 item to ask you if i may, 1, how do you get to all the stations you do from your home in the uk?,2 item is on the one you did at cardiff, you said you where going to do one at shrewsbury station, has it been done yet, or is it for a later date,. tornado please keep all what you do as a hobby ,it great for people like me and orthers that can not do what you do. thank you so much for your vidio.
Nice to see Nottingham looking better these days. Having moved over to the other side of the border I don’t go there much now but being a regular user in the early 90’s it really did look like a complete dump. I see the old foot bridge to the east of the station has gone along with one of the through lines.
Great video, BTW phoenix Park is a park and ride and Hucknall is just a small town, the city is best. I used to live in Notts, but never went spotting there as wasn't into it much plus I was in school, but its on my list to visit, just for the trains.
Excellent video there Tornado from my local station even if it isn't the same without the HST's! If you'd have chosen to be on the Midland Mainline before the HST withdrawal, of which their last day in service was on 15.10.2021, you would have seen 43102 (43302) in the Intercity Swallow livery and 43274 in the new East Midlands Railway livery! Funny how 222003 brought you in from Leicester! I will have to say that the 180's are nice trains but I just hate their brakes! The 156's in the interim East Midlands Railway livery are from Greater Anglia but soon to move over to Northern and the three car 170's in the full East Midlands Railway livery are from ScotRail while the two car variations in the same livery are from London Midland/West Midlands Railway with the exception of one from Transport for Wales at present in the form of 170273. Just in case you didn't know, the tram types are the Bombardier Incentro AT6/5 and the Alstom Citadis 302, all of which have fleet numbers and names, 237 'Stuart Broad MBE' for example, so there's your tram fix! At one point in the video, you mentioned that one didn't have a RUclips channel but the one that you mentioned does now have one and is also a new subscriber as well! Nice to have bumped into you which I didn't expect and who knows one day it could happen at Nottingham again!
Thanks ever so much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this :) It was great meeting you that day, and thank you for the information in regards to the various tram types!!
@@Tornado922 On the tram types, I'm sure you'll remember them types next time you come here! I've seen some sparks off the pantographs before! One of the Bombardier AT65 Incentro Trams in the form of 212 'William Booth' now has an allover advert promoting Nottingham to become carbon neutral come 2028! As they say, the future's bright, the future's green! That could be the case with some rail operating companies actually and not just other operating companies like the bus ones for example. East Midlands Railway are getting bi-modes come 2023 I think for example.
Re the train lengths: It's really funny especially if you think of the Netherlands, where the InterCity train sets (the double decker ones, somewhat InterRegio hybrids if you will) usually are six cars long, at least. If I'm not mistaken. And (local) Sprinter sets are starting to get even longer.
23:29 the train stopped a lot further down the platform from where the dispatcher was Also! Ratcliffe power station (the one that the freight went to) is the power station adjacent to East Midlands Parkway.
I just found it slightly odd that there was a train dispatcher telling the trains where to stop when I would have thought that the trains would have a pre-designated stopping location on the station. Much like every station in the UK really. I actually never knew that the Ratcliffe Power Station was the one near to East Midlands Parkway.
35:02 Under CDGR, the UN code tells you what each tanker has on board. 1202 means diesel or gas oil (red diesel), 1203 means petrol and 1223 means Kerosene. Road tankers carry the same markings under ADR.
Also apparently 180111 broke down near Kibworth I believe on the 15:35 London St Pancras-Nottingham service I believe causing delays, diversions and probably some cancellations as well, so I hope you managed to get home from Nottingham safe and well!
@@Tornado922 Well I'm glad that you got back OK! Lucky for me I managed to walk back on this day, which was pretty easy to do! At least it didn't take me as long to get back home compared to your train trip! Apparently 180110 is currently a four car 180 at the moment as the centre car is at Doncaster Wabtec after suffering corrosion. Also the East Midlands Trains livery on the 222's has almost disappeared now! I think 222003 'Tornado' could lose its name if it hasn't lost it yet as a result! 😱 It's a shame that the full old livery on them is going but the new colour scheme, which involves some parts of the old livery in this case, really does work on them! I think Cross Country's HST's have been temporarily put out of service, which is a shame! Fingers crossed that there will be a Mainline series come 2022! I don't mind seeing random stations all the same though! 😂
On the length of EMR trains, it does seem a bit odd. But it's now October and since I walk quite often in fields close to the line South of Kettering I can say I've noticed something of a return to the past practice of coupling two class 222s together, with several 5+4 or 5+5 formations passing. Still, there are many 4-, 5- and 7-car trains. I wonder if shorter trains will remain the norm, with the 360s doing the Corby service so that, perhaps, less space is needed on the other services. Re your comment on doing a long journey on a class 170, I had several journeys to and from London in Midland Mainline days on class 170s and it seemed to me that they had good acceleration and speed and were surprisingly comfortable too. In this respect they are much better than the 360s: based on the one journey I've done to London and back (from Kettering) on 360s, I would say they are not suited to a journey of that length, due to the lack of legroom, the lack of elbow room, the lack of armrests (or anywhere else to rest arm or elbow) and the lack of tables. I was uncomfortable well before the journey ended and glad to get off.
The problem with any 'modern' train now is that they were designed without customer comfort in mind, they all have very hard seats and leg room is a bit of a premium. A very good example of this would be the MK3's. They are all very comfortable, offer superb legroom and have space available for you to rest your arms and stretch out.
Crewe to Newark Castle blimey they need to put a 170 unit on that sort of route the seats on a 156 must get too uncomfortable for the passengers after 1hr so I think its best if 170s did that sort of route not sure if you agree with me
Hi , mate since you have been from leicester to nottingham does that mean you are going to derby next for a sort of east midlands round up? Great Video mate keep it up , and i agree the 156 's have a great character and its nice to see them being used!!
Hi tornado922, great video absolutely loved it, i just have one question, how much do you spend on train travel every time you go train spotting because thats the one thing stopping ne from going to stations and spotting
Hello there Ethan, I haven't got a fixed sum when it comes to finances for my train spotting as it can vary depending on where I go. If you set yourself a budget then you'll be absolutely fine
Brilliant vid bud! Let's just pretend at 0:23 you didn't sound like you were having a stroke. Quick question, do you have any plans to return to Colton Junction as I really enjoy your films from there. And I have really discovered how much I hate Cross Countrys livery.
Lets just gloss over that particular moment haha, I will be going back to Colton Junction at some stage but I don't know when that will be. Why do you hate the XC livery?
I don't think I've ever appreciated Nottingham as a station or the variety it receives even though I spent a decent chunk of my life there, which is a shame, I'll make sure I take it in next time I'm back up there. On the turbos, Nottingham to Birmingham is as far as I can bare, and that's at a push, the 2 car units can get really really cramped on a busy day
This was only my second ever visit here and it absolutely superb, the variety in traction is excellent. Could've done with a bit more freight but I enjoyed my time here nonetheless.
Hard to believe that this is only your second visit here, and it was on a day where I was away from Nottingham too, are you doing this on purpose, also, for filming at Nottingham I'd recommend you stand where you were standing between platforms 5 and 6
