We don’t need more, affordable whisky content. There’s so much of that covered in whisky tube already, and quite frankly, I’m tired of drinking value bottles because no matter how good they are, they almost all taste like booze. I want to drink something that leaves me speechless, something that I giggle about after the dram is already done, something I’d consider my desert island dram. What we need is something to dream about, so please, keep up the high end spirit reviews. We need them just as much, if not more, than the value bottles in our life.
I agree completely, I still need to try Laphroaig 25 (I'm a fan of the L), but I did manage to try Highland Park 25 some years ago, and I won't forget it.
I got opportunity to enjoy the Laphroaig 25 last year in New Jersey at tasting hosted by Barry McAffer the former Distillery Manager of Laphroaig. He really broke down the whole process that went into making the 25. And in a very humorous way.
So glad you did this. I’ve had a bottle of the 2014 25yr CS unopened in my cabinet for 9yrs now. I paid around £200 that’s GBP, and I now see it retailing at around £800. That’s a problem for me😅 as it means I’m probably not gonna open it anytime soon. What I might do is buy a 2024 edition, and open it instead🥳
My buddy and I used to have Laphroaig dinner nights where we would buy and completely drink a bottle of Laphroaig 18. It was just magical. Alas, the 18 is no more and is sorely missed. I have one unopened bottle of it left and don’t want to open it now. Great review and I couldn’t agree more. Older Laphroaigs are something magical!
I've never had a 25 year old Laphroaig. I love the 16 and the old Lore is excellent. The 10 is only 40% here in the UK so I usually choose Ardbeg 10 for the same money. A lot of people say that younger peated whisky is better but I'm sure that age always brings something special to the table. Cheers for another great show Daniel, have a great weekend.
The laphroaig 16 is my all time favourite whisky so far (haven’t tried older) I love the softer take on laphroaigs DNA so I can only imagine how delicate this 25 has gotten, charred pear + peach sounds delicious! Thanks for reviewing this special scotch
I found a store 20 miles away from me that has the current 25 year for $720 before tax. One of these years when I have lots of disposable income I'll get one of these. Thanks for the honest and thorough comparison review.
So happy to see this. I was just sent a sample of Laphroaig 25 (along with an sample of Ardbeg 19). I was going to try it for the first time my next day off. What Daniel described the softening of peat with age was my experience with Ardbeg 19. Super excited to give this a try.
Dam you a lucky man to have two 25yr olds at once.. at my age I don't think I could handle two 25yr olds 🤭🤭.. My favourite Laphroaig is the PX triple mature Cask it's so fruity and meaty and Smokey it's absolutely 💯 👌.... Thanks Whisky Wizard 🧙♂️🥃🧙♂️
I was the same way until I discovered Kilchoman. My Kilchoman bottle count has far surpassed that of my Laphroaig bottles. Of course their wider variety of experimental blends has a lot to do with it.
Welcome to Mr. Whittington's Hidden Drams Neighbor! Some day I will have to have a dram that is older than 18... But it is hard for me to justify the cost.
If you have a Costco near you and you don't live in a state with state run liquor stores, around Thanksgiving Costco releases a Kirkland (store brand) Scotch that is at least a 20-year-old for around $100. I bought a bottle once, and I've had whiskies that I enjoy more that cost less.
I really wanted to buy this whisky when i turned 25 and still regret not doing it. I want to know what an old whiskey like this tastes like a lot and would love to have one in my cabinet
I just came up with a pretty good (i think) non whiskey related life advice video idea. Some new tshirt company offered what they called a "happiness guarantee" which struck me as odd, whih also led me to think how would Daniel Whittington chracterize happiness vs satisfaction?
I haven't had the Laphroaig 25 since 2017 in Edinburgh. I'll have to pour a little Ardbeg 19 to refresh my memory on the effect time has on peat. #cult #ARRRRRDBEG
The timing couldnt be more pefect, looking to buy something and theres a sale in AUS, Laphroaig 25 is on sale, 799 aud to 599aud ( We have taxes on alki). So a cheaper price.
Hey Mr.Whittington, love your stuff, also what is the whiskey between the Henry McKenna, and your water bottle?? The squareish with the label on the lower 1/3 of it with an "h" on the label?
Water added to Islay whisky has more off an effect on the nose and flavor of any other whisky out there. I wish he would added water to each of them. I wouldn't have an Islay without it.
I had the chance to nose and sip on all Laphroaigs when bartending for Marriot in Cyprus and its something thats UNFORGATABLE. Thanks for bringing back this feeling!
Several years ago I bought a bottle of Laphroaig 18 year and discovered I didn't like it as much as the 10 year cask strength. It was good but didn't seem worth all the money.
I have a bottle of laphroaig 10 and i just cant drink it, for me it taste like hospital, i was hoping for something nice and smoky like talisker but it is horrible
The whiskey I bought when I pinned on Lt. Colonel in 2017. Absolutely amazing dram.

Ever had Red Spot? That's been one of my favorites and a very hard to find bottle.

Been meaning to grab a Laphroaig 25. Also Bluey is my kids’ favourite show. It’s good wholesome tv.
So glad to see that bottle is still alive and getting enjoyed!
Great video! Soooooooo, age statements do still matter. I've had the 25. I love the 10. The 25 is miles above. Cheers!
Daniel always, always, always enjoy your VIDS, and the good info!
Good day indeed, I wish!

The 18 yrs. is part of the core range my guy.

@@Holydecipher It was discontinued back in 2016 and they replaced with the 15 and the Lore. It only came back to the lineup this year.
@@kvetcha I know that I'm right, you don't have to tell the whole story of how right I am 😂
Thank you for wxplaining how the age, and ABV works in scotland. That explains why the Laphroaig select is so varied.
Never wanted to be in that room more! Most fascinating!
What's not to like about a pair of 25-year olds? Danieal, you dawg, you!! Great vid!

Always enjoy your videos and love Laphroaig. Never had the 25 but the 10 is a staple in my cabinet.
Laphroaig was the first bottle of scotch that I ever bought, when I turned 19. Just finished a bottle of 10yr old yesterday. :)
Excellent video! Need more like this!
Love it! Your presentation, the whiskey you introduce, and the stories and ideas .Thanks

Yes! Old Islay is so fun when you get to see what the spirit is like without the peat and smoke (or heavily muted). Super jealous
