This is one of my all time favourites - IM so glad you reacted and appreciated it like I do. They are all amazing, but Kirstie and Avi's performance in this is so emotional and harrowing.
I like to describe this song and performance by Pentatonix as “devastatingly beautiful”. I’m so happy Pentatonix does not pull punches expressing dark emotion, who among us has not been THERE? I also totally dig the “conversation” Kirstie has with the cello; she sings, the cello answers, she sings, the cello answers….. wow, so effective. Also, the slow harmonic stacking starting with Scott when the cello goes silent, followed then by Avi, then Mitch, and finally Kirstie, is breathtaking and commands attention. Great reaction, loved your interpretations pointing out places which were special for you.
I loved how you said Kirsty's voice was "small" and "delicate." And then POW! Kirsty belts out her cry. It's wonderful and cuts anyone with a soul right down the middle.
I love that someone is as passionate about the emotion that music and specifically this band gives! Its so intense and beautiful and magical. Chills every song everytime I listen to them.
About Kirstie's sorrowful look...yes, she did get deep into that part and played it so well...and it probably helped that she had a recent eyebrow piercing that got infected a bit at the time...hence some of the swollen eye look. Also the set's vignette that gave the impression of a still picture was perfect..and probably really difficult for Scott who always moves his hands while singing. He had a death grip on the backs of the chairs, trying to keep still, lol.
Thanks for the reminder about her eyebrow piercing. I always remembered her talking about having a swollen eye for this video but forgot why she did. Every time someone reacts to it, I wonder if they’ll notice.
I already thought this was a beautiful song before I ever heard their version. And yeah, I've been there before in THAT emotional space. Their version of this song is so, so incredibly touching, vulnerable, and heartfelt (though I did manage to keep from crying until Avi's verse), that it quickly became one of my favorites. Your reaction to this song has done the same thing. Thank you for your insight, your emotion, and your wonderful analysis. I'm glad you found Pentatonix and glad that I found your channel.
Kevin is a world class cellist who has appeared twice at Carnegie Hall (one on cello and once on saxophone) who has been highly praised by Yo Yo Ma. You should check out the video "Kevin's 5th".
Great reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. Kirstin really put her musical theater acting skills on display in this video. She portrayed the pain, frustration and anger that the character felt in the relationship. Stellar. Just think, a few years later Kirstin had a staring role on Broadway.
Yeah...so, a Pentaholic saying a particular PTX song is their favorite PTX song is like a parent saying one of their children is their favorite! It just can't (honestly) be done. That said "Say Something"" is certainly ONE of my favorite PTX songs! As you said it is certainly a situation that almost anyone can personally relate to and the exquisite arrangement and the flawless performance of it absolutely rips my heart out EVERY time I watch this music video. I SO enjoy watching your reaction videos! Not only do you have intelligent and thoughtful insights, you obviously thoroughly enjoy well done music performances and music videos. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos.
Kevin O. the beatboxer was found by the original trio Scott, Kirstie and Mitch when they needed 5 members to compete on the Sing Off. All acapella groups had to have at least 5 members. Kevin is a world-class chello player and was found beatboxing while playing classical chello on RUclips. They knew instantly they NEEDED him. He was at the end of his med school and was about to become a medical intern. He has lived in China and traveled abroad to many countries and speaks something like 5 languages!! A LOT MORE THAN A FANTASTIC BEATBOXER.
Good job! The fact that you kept pausing it - and remarking as you did (spot on, btw), stopped me from experiencing what I always do when I listen to Pentatonix' amazingly beautiful rendition of this song: heart-choking meltdown.
This is my favorite PTX song, and I feel like it doesn’t get mentioned as often as it should. On another note, you should totally react to their live performance of the national anthem from a couple weeks ago. Truly masterful 🙌🏻
Wholly agree, Bonnie, but it does not surprise me that a song with such dark emotion isn’t promoted by people, those emotions can be very uncomfortable and there is a strong tendency to avoid them. But I find the total human experience valuable and Pentatonix conveyed the despair we all can feel when a serious relationship is in jeopardy and we don’t want to lose it….
Lighter and Amazing watch "The Wizard of AHHHS" with PTX and Todderick Hall. A retelling of the story with songs stitched together perfectly. You are in for a treat! Also Problem, and Gold, and My Heart With You. Oh so many to look forward to.
Pentatonix is one of my favorites to watch reactions to because of how well they produce simple videos in a way that is so effective at telling a story - or keeping you glued to your screen because of how cool it is. My other favorite band is Skillet, very different music, but great lyrics! They always surprise people. Their videos have millions of views, yet many have not even heard of them. Their music could very easily be used in action movies, and some has been used in NFL games and WWE, so some may have actually heard their music but still have no idea. If you want to venture out and react to their music, I would suggest songs to listen to, many big Skillet fans out there. My first introduction to them was "Hero" - it is awesome! The drummer sings background vocals and her voice is amazing!
Kevin - the beatboxer, makes appearances with his Cello in several videos - Shallow, Radioactive (With Lindsey Stirling - forgive is spelling is wrong and her violin), Thank You (a Pentatonix Original) and others. Kirstie does a great job with this song, Avi the base eventually leaves the group, Scott, tall blond is the baritone and often takes the lead on the songs and then Mitch of the angelic, clear counter-tenor. This group is utterly amazing.
They really manage to capture all those emotions of something coming to an end. The desperate clawing and crying scream, the totally empty and quiet moment of giving up etc. They do it so freaking well!
This is one of their best songs, all of them doing great, the cello is a great option here because the cello could express sadness so well, and Kristin show so much emotion in her singing is not just that she can sing very well witch she could, is all the emotion she put on the song, that you think that she was crying for ours before the video, Avi did very well with emotion of the song to, well all of the did that
Just wow 🤯 Even the way Kirstie is sitting- her legs are positioned as if she is just crumpled emotionally- like if she sat up with her legs straight or crossed at the ankles, it would convey a totally different feel.
Thank you so much for this one. You shared every single emotion that runs through me when I hear this song. The sense of loss and hopelessness when you finally face the crushing fact that a relationship can no longer be saved... Pentatonix captured every nuance of that desperate process. Avi's verse also foreshadows his imminent departure from the group, which just adds another layer of sorrow to the arrangement. PTX sure knows how to get us in the feels. Great reaction!
Kevin is a world class cellist and created the form of music called Cello-boxing. Occasionally he gets to break it out. Kirstie is a wonder. That hits differently. Grats on the 20K!!!!!!!!!!~
This was shot during one of their tours. In the video episode, they said they asked their crew to create a painting backdrop, and the band was amazed by the execution. The rest is the team taking us along on their emotional journey. I knew the voice by voice build would get to you. It's raw, it's powerful, it's stunning in the best way.
On a lot of Pentatonix albums there's a song where they forget about the vocal percussion and sing in 5-part harmony. Those songs are recorded with all of them in the studio together, and often when they do them live they put down the mics, ask the audience for quiet, stand around a light facing each other and sing. Some of those songs are "Can't Help Falling in Love" (Elvis cover), "My Heart With You" (The Rescues cover) and "Run to You" (PTX original).
I just hit the Subscribe button!❤️ This reaction was so good! You talking about the meaning of the song brought a whole new set of emotions for me. I’ve heard this song dozens of times and always loved it because of how good they sounded, now I love it even more and cried through it your reaction.😅 thank you for this!
This song, Imagine, The Prayer, Hallelujah, and Thank You are just emotionally devastating. And we keep coming back for it.....Just gluttons for punishment. Thank you really gets me (guts me?), especially considering when it came out, 2020.
There is a very moving version of “Run to You” titled Pentatonix: Best “Run to You” ever - onstage and backstage where you can see how moved they get, especially Scott.
Most of them have had musical theater training so they can convey the emotions. Kirstin had the female lead in Kinky Boots on Broadway. Recommend their cover of Shallow.
And you haven't even hit the christmas music yet, can't wait to see your reaction to "the Prayer" and "amazing grace" "over the river" & "mr grinch". Have fun!!!!
One of my favorites, good job. Since this is the first time you've seen Beyonce (Kevin's cello) and because you were so emotionally invested in the song itself, you may not have noticed that Kevin was actually beatboxing while playing. He calls it celloboxing and it's amazing! He's so talented, as they all are. Keep up the good work.
They have Kevin with the cello to highlight his celloboxing skills, something he came up with. And to think he gave up med school for this...great choice.
This song came out not too long before my mother passed away in 2014 and for some reason, both my daughter and I equate this song to that time and gets both of us emotional whenever we hear it. Thank you for your reaction.
This is my fav PTX reaction of yours- love the direction and camera angle info! Keep on with PTX! I think you should do Popspring 2016 to give us feedback on a live set!
This is the first time I have seen one of your reactions, and, like you know which order they were going to come in during that one bit, I knew at which points you were going to pause. Great minds, I guess!
Thank you for a great reaction! This is a fabulous version of this song! And to have Kevin on the cello and beatboxing at the same time (he calls it cello-boxing!) Amazing! You should listen to "My Heart With You" for their haunting harmonies, priceless! ruclips.net/video/4Eo2_vkVTU0/видео.html We saw them in concert in December in Connecticut and they do not disappoint!
Fun fact: Because Scott tends to move his hands around a lot while singing, they made him hold onto the two chairs! But if you watch closely, you can see him move his elbows slightly... He just can't help himself! 😅 😅
Please try Run to You. It’s an original song of theirs. Such a message and beautifully executed. Would like your take on it. For another fun one, try their cover of Royals by Lourdes. This was when they were very young so you might laugh a bit but their “upgrade” of the song is a phenom!💕💕💕
Oh, man. If you've already got an emotional connection to the song, you're in for a heartbreaker. Kirstin's lead vocals in this song are so emotional, it brings tears to my eyes - and I'd never even heard the song before I heard the PTX version. This was the first video PTX did with Kevin playing the cello (and beatboxing simultaneously!) for the song - and for me, a cello has the most emotional tone of any of the string instruments. Add in Avi's emotional solo, the slow, one-at-a-time build shortly after, and the final belting by Kirstin, and this is definitely in my top 5 all-time PTX songs. Part of Kirstin's appearance in this video has a very mundane explanation - she had either an eye infection in her right eye, or one of her piercings over her right eye had gotten infected (I've heard both stories), so she may well have been in some physical pain during the filming of the video.
Check out Avi Kaplan's solo music. Change on the Rise and video of I'm only getting started. Then add When I'm a Fool live at Sunset Sound or 7 layer sessions of All is Well. Always a PTX fan but love my Avi.
Thanks for reacting to, what I believe, one of PTXs most underrated songs. Kirstie kills it, the harmonies are perfect and the cello is right for this track with it's mournful sound building along with the vocals. Kevin's cameo at the end just tops it off 'cause playing the cello and beatboxing isn't enough input for KO.....
Gets me every time. So powerful. Pentatonix takes the heart of a song, amps it up to the max, and then just executes it to perfection.
This is one of my all time favourites - IM so glad you reacted and appreciated it like I do. They are all amazing, but Kirstie and Avi's performance in this is so emotional and harrowing.
You’ve said that so well. Both of their voices convey so much emotion, and Avi’s dynamic swells intensifying the emotion-just gorgeous.
I loved how you said Kirsty's voice was "small" and "delicate." And then POW! Kirsty belts out her cry. It's wonderful and cuts anyone with a soul right down the middle.
I say that Kevin playing the cello still counts as a capella because if you watch him play that instrument is part of him.
Avi adds that brokenhearted crying sound to the song.
chokes me up EVERY time darn it. 😉
I love that someone is as passionate about the emotion that music and specifically this band gives! Its so intense and beautiful and magical. Chills every song everytime I listen to them.
Avi harmonizing with the cello melts me every single time and Kirstie’s lead is PERFECTION 💔
About Kirstie's sorrowful look...yes, she did get deep into that part and played it so well...and it probably helped that she had a recent eyebrow piercing that got infected a bit at the time...hence some of the swollen eye look. Thanks for the reminder about her eyebrow piercing. I always remembered her talking about having a swollen eye for this video but forgot why she did. Every time someone reacts to it, I wonder if they’ll notice.
I love how into this you are. You truly appreciate the musical geniuses that are Pentatonix and their arranger.
My very favorite PTX cover. I love it so.
The shallow song is great to
Run to you is another tear jerker..
I love your reactions. It is very emotional.
Kevin is a world class cellist who has appeared twice at Carnegie Hall (one on cello and once on saxophone) who has been highly praised by Yo Yo Ma. You should check out the video "Kevin's 5th".
The proverbial " Wall of Sound!" front and center! Amazing 🥰
Great reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. Kirstin really put her musical theater acting skills on display in this video. She portrayed the pain, frustration and anger that the character felt in the relationship. Stellar. Just think, a few years later Kirstin had a staring role on Broadway.
Shallow, Perfect, The Prayer, Amazing Grace. There are no wrong choices.
Love that Avi was able to participate in the harmonies more with Kevin’s cello filling in the bass line.
Yeah...so, a Pentaholic saying a particular PTX song is their favorite PTX song is like a parent saying one of their children is their favorite! It just can't (honestly) be done. This is my favorite PTX song, and I feel like it doesn’t get mentioned as often as it should.
On another note, you should totally react to their live performance of the national anthem from a couple weeks ago. Truly masterful 🙌🏻
They are never singers. They are artists
@@bonnieflynn4798 - so true! :)

I knew you'd freak right-the-hell out. Everyone does. Kirstie is magic.

i don't know how they do it but they make me really hear and feel the lyrics of the song.
love them !!
You were right. Perfect. I've always said this cover blasts the original out of the water. Absolutely perfect.
They really manage to capture all those emotions of something coming to an end. The desperate clawing and crying scream, the totally empty and quiet moment of giving up etc. They do it so freaking well!
AVIIIII IS AMAZING ❤
They communicate emotions so well!
I wanted to like this reaction three or four times ☺️
This is one of their best songs, all of them doing great, the cello is a great option here because the cello could express sadness so well, and Kristin show so much emotion in her singing is not just that she can sing very well witch she could, is all the emotion she put on the song, that you think that she was crying for ours before the video, Avi did very well with emotion of the song to, well all of the did that
This was the music video that introduced me to Pentatonix almost a decade ago. Love their upgrades! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They were so young here! I love your reactions ... authentic and with feeling - you are appreciated by this Pentaholic! 🙂
Just wow 🤯 Even the way Kirstie is sitting- her legs are positioned as if she is just crumpled emotionally- like if she sat up with her legs straight or crossed at the ankles, it would convey a totally different feel.
Definitely in my top four or five of them.

Your explanation of the camera angle on avi and how it can set the mood makes perfect sense now that I think about it. Thanks for the lesson

I love this song so much! Thanks for the reaction.
Still one of my favorite 😍 😍 😍
Yes, Yes and Yes!
I just LOVE your reaction!!! I feel the same every single time I hear this song... xoxo
This is my favorite PTX cover. Thanks for reacting to it. If this doesn’t hit you😢😢😢
Has anyone ever told you that you look just like Rick Hoffman? But like the kind version lol. I cannot unsee it. Great reaction as always!
I just hit the Subscribe button!❤️ This reaction was so good! You talking about the meaning of the song brought a whole new set of emotions for me. Yes, Shallow!
My favorite one
When you said this one meant something to you, I knew you were in for it. I love this arrangement, it's gorgeous.
If I remember correctly, even the original artist for this song, A Great Big World, loved PTX' version of it, and tweeted it out.
PTX is the masters of layering and the wall of sound. This song is a great example.
And you haven't even hit the christmas music yet, can't wait to see your reaction to "the Prayer" and "amazing grace" "over the river" & "mr grinch". Have fun!!!!

Super and heartfelt reaction. Thank you.
This is my favorite song from them. I had to laugh when you said Kirstie's voice was small. He he just wait. The in sync stacking is so impressive..
I just love your reactions. You have great insight
Pentatonix has simply incredible emotional intelligence. It's one of the things that sets them apart from the other a capella groups.
so powerful
This was incredible. A must hear. Please react to amazing grace and o come all ye faithful. They are unbelievable. I love your reaction Videos.
This tears me up every time I hear it. So beautifully done.
You should react to When the partys over next. Waves upon waves of emotion.
One of their best!! LOVE IT!
You really need to listen to their original "Run to You." Thanks for the heartfelt reaction.

We saw them in concert in December in Connecticut and they do not disappoint!
Agree. It blows:me away everytime😊
My heartbeat stops at points during their performance.
It’s positively beautiful.
Thank you for the share! 💖
Such a great reaction 🥰 happy to see someone else get as affected by it as I do ❤ this song is perfection
Love your reaction.
The first time I heard this song it broke me, and I've never been in a relationship!
Love your reactions! Thanks :)
They're all AMAZING. Next time you're listening to it check out Kevin beat boxing while playing the cello. That's mind boggling.
Fun fact: Because Scott tends to move his hands around a lot while singing, they made him hold onto the two chairs! But if you watch closely, you can see him move his elbows slightly... He just can't help himself! 😅 😅
You are so good at this.
I just stumbled across your channel. Loving your reactions and at times letting your vulnerability show. Thank you❤
If you want to react to another fun one, check out their "90s Dance Medley". Fun!!!!

Agreed 💯
Thanks for reacting to, what I believe, one of PTXs most underrated songs. Kevin's cameo at the end just tops it off 'cause playing the cello and beatboxing isn't enough input for KO.....
They do occasionally use instruments in their video and show but they are always in front of you. Primarily Kevin and his cello.
Really enjoying your reactions ☺️
