Used to eat canned ham when I was a kid. Only difference is we opened the can with a key.
I made a soup with that one. I had a can of northern beans that didn’t seal so I made ham and bean soup. I diced up the ham and browned it in the pot with some onion. Added carrots, celery, chicken broth along with the “ham” and beans and my son thought it was one of the better soups I’ve made. I will definitely make it again.
I am definitely going to get some of the canned ham from Aldi.
My husband said to tell you that spam stands for Squirrel, Possum and More. He is so funny
Since I discovered Aldi several years ago, I buy my groceries no where else. The food is excellent and I have saved so much money. The ham is one item I haven't tried but I will now - thanks!
Loved seeing all your babies in the barn! I buy the little Dak hams when I can find them in Walmart, and Dollar General. I remember my mom cooking those in the oven, and putting a brown sugar and pineapple glaze on them. That was back in the 70's when inflation was ridiculous, and the price of food was even worse!
My Mom used to make canned ham for us occasionally. She would bake it with pineapple rings and maraschino cherries in the middle of the rings like a pineapple upside down cake.
I'm late watching this, but just wanted to say this: I'm pretty sure that being a homesteading, farm wife and still manage to have cute nails is a superwoman trait lol! Love you Patara! God bless!
I love those. We just put it on a plate, slice and make sandwiches, straight out of the can. Ooooh, oooh, yum!!
The ham experiment was interesting! Also, you are so good to all your critters😊 I love that!
I do survival sunday with my grandkids. Trying different kinds of foods that they aren't used too. Mind you thier 3 and 6 but its pretty fun.
"I would believe you." LOL James, you're a hoot.
James is a hoot 😂
Definitely going to Aldi to add to our pantry. My husband and I were saying eww, that little oks like spam 🤢 too. But I’ll trust your taste buds and James didn’t gag.
Love the polished nails.
Canned ham is good. I haven't had one in forever.
We need an Aldo’s!!!! The canned ham would be great fried with some taters & eggs!!!
I used to buy them all the time when my first three children were babies and hubs was stationed at Ft. Knox . A Spec. 4 with 4 defendants didn’t have a penny left come the 1st of the month ! One can made two meals 1/2 for a pot of Pintos , the other half in with green beans and potatoes ! Great buy and don’t taste bad ! Blessings to you and yours 🙏🏽❤️
"Mama's going for it." James, you chicken☺
This was Great! Lol! We bought a few of these bad boys too 😀 I was thinking of adding to rice & veggies or Ramen. Thanks for fthis!👍
Thanks Patara. I loved James's reaction! I make it sometimes with home canned peaches or apples and a little brown sugar. It also makes a great pasta casserole with a can of english peas, some "cream of" soup and whatever seasonings you like. Much Love
When it gets daylight, I’m heading to Aldi to get a few cans of that ham! My daddy would always say of canned food, “That’ll taste better than a snowball this winter”! My kids were never picky...hubby, either. With canned ham, I’d add pineapple and a little brown sugar, put it in a baking dish or the crockpot, open a jar of green beans and fix some mashed potatoes and cornbread. Yummy! Also, I’ll bet this ham would be good fried for breakfast. It would taste good with scrambled eggs and toast. Thanks for the ideas!
That brings back memories of my momma cooking those! I hadn't even thought about getting any, but they would be good in beans!
Growing up my mom would put pineapple chunks on a canned ham and bake it. We kids preferred dads method - chopped up and fried with onions, mushrooms then mixed into scrambled eggs! Breakfast for dinner always!! I saw that come out of the can and thought 'hmmm, sliced then fried alongside over easy eggs'. Too bad I don't have ALDI here, I'd definately buy and store that and likely use a can once a month or so.
That looks like the old Hormel ham in a can when I was a kid. That was the only ham we ever got to eat and they were great.
I love the way you interact with your babies.
❤️🙏🌸
My Mother use to bake these years ago, they were delicious
I absolutely love your laugh, makes me happy!
I like to grind it up and add pineapple juice in it. I make a loaf out of it. Put some pineapples on top. Mix pineapple pineapple juice, brown sugar and mustard and glaze it. It’ll make your tongue slap your brains out!!!!
I grind it up in the meat grinder (the one that screws to the counter) add dill pickle relish and mayo for a sandwich that is yummy!!
Going to get a few of those hams from Aldi next time I go. Thanks for the taste test and recommendation. I'm putting things back for a rainy day. Im afraid we're going to have a long rainy season!! Thanks for your videos, Patera. Your James is so cute. Love you guys!!
You will Eat most anything if you get REALLY HUNGRY!!
Great review!!
I just love your facial expressions 😂🤣😂
James at the end was hilarious 😆🤣😆
Love what you did with the canned ham, I though while you were eating - a great mustard and a fresh biscuit. I am hungry👩🍳
Hope your holidays have been wonderful and thank you for sharing❤️
Woman you crack me up 🤣😂have a blessed day!!
You go for it...James you are a hoot.....I think he would try anything you cooked...and tried first.
Oh, thank you i thought only me and my family keeps can ham hand just in case. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Holiday Everyone! Hugs to Cochise! Maybe a little ground clover if you have it around!
Canned hams have a very long date code, so we bought a lot of them when Walmart had them on sale. Sometimes we bake one with a glaze that my wife makes. I don't know the ingredients other than honey. Lately, I've been slicing canned ham to make sandwiches with Miracle Whip. My wife will take some, cube it, heat it in the microwave, and drizzle honey over it. It's almost healthy. :)
I have some in my pantry. James' reaction...priceless.
Patera, my wife and I really like them for quick meals. Heat up in a pan and put on a biscuit for breakfast. And like you told your viewers a really long shelf life. One other thing I would add, we think the ham make quick and tasty ham salad for sandwiches.
I may have to pick up a few of these as well. Can't hurt :) Thanks for sharing.
simmer it in a deep pot with pineapple and carrots and onions. Once heated through thicken the liquid with cornstarch, some pepper and some butter. Serve with the carrots, onions and mashed potatoes. The gravy is fantasic and we lived for Easter when my mom would make this.
FYI: You can also mash up those little canned hams, right out of the can because they're fully cooked, with some sweet pickle relish and mayo or miracle whip and you get some really nice ham salad bunwiches or sandwiches from it. For added fiber you can chop in some celery or some other vegetables that you like. Just don't use the brine/water it's in because it'll make the ham salad too soupy.
We like to cook these in the toaster oven with cloves and maple syrup. We love these.
Canned ham, potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage - yum.
Never thought to stick a tiny ham in my tiny crock pot. Thanks for the idea!
Wrap in aluminum foil put in oven about 2hrs,serve it up with watever you like!!! Enjoy😋my family ate it alot growing up here in NORTH CAROLINA!!!
Thank you. I have one in my cabinet I’ve been curious about. Looks like it would be good in a hash or scramble too.
I love your red nails and your pearl earrings too. Very classic. Thank your for this great recipe and all the good tips!
My late father made Easter Ham (the real ones, bone in), with diamond slicing, cloves and a packet glaze that came with the ham. It was always perfect. I'm a prepper with three one pound canned hams. Haven't tried one yet. Great video!
I dont cook it's already cooked! I use for breakfast, ham salad, sandwiches. Love it
I'm sure it would do in a pinch, and keep you going, thanks for the tip. I guess it's the shelf life that is concerning, but Twinkies have a twenty year shelf life
Canned ham is delicious with Coca-Cola glaze.
This was fun! Glad you try these items for your subscribers 😉 thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. I have alot of this ham in the pantry.
Glad I caught this retro video on the canned ham. When I was first married and very poor, my husband and I ate them but don' remember the brand. I think I have this brand in my hurricane supply box so good to know it's pretty good. Yes, I like pineapple, brown sugar, honey sauce in my hams,
I guess that was "I might take a bite but I'm not going to like it." James you are the best sport.
We used to get canned ham back in the 70's that was more solid looking than that one. We would take a church key bottle opener and poke holes all the way around the can. Put it on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven at 350 for about 20 to 25 min. Take it out and drain off the liquid. Then pour bar b q sauce down through the holes, return to oven a bake for an hour or so. Take it out of oven, carefully remove the can lid with a manual can opener and have a tasty bar b q ham, great on its own, wonderful as a sandwich on a great roll. Thanks for sharing this with us, I have been wondering about that product. Have a Blessed day.
You two are a hoot. Merry Christmas.
Your videos always make me smile. 😁 thankyou! Cute furbabys too! 💕
Y'all are cracking me up with that canned ham. I laughed with tears in my eyes!
Made many meals with canned ham. Everything from fried ham n cheese sandwiches to a simple soup my mother made on the stove adding potatoes, green beans, baby carrots and diced up canned ham.
Stocked this! Thank you for the suggestion. Your videos have really helped us become more prepared 🙏
Your RED CHRISTMAS NAILS look so pretty, Patara! ❤️🎄❤️
Our power was off d/t snow storm for 5 days here by Knoxville over Christmas. We had kerosene heaters and were able to cook on top of them. I have several of those hams in my pantry.
Thanks for letting us know this is worth having in the pantry.
Mama used to get those. She would bake it and make beans, taters, corn, peas and biscuits. Very good.
I love those hams!! I make ham salad in the food processor with them.
Love those hams!! Several in my prepper pantry
You make me laugh!!! Couldn’t be a better video!! Thank you❤️
Thank you and God bless you for ALL that you do, wish I had found your channel years ago.
OMg! I'm gonna buy it for my stash of shelf life products! Thanks for making me chuckle once again, Patara. Have a blessed day.
Hi Patara! Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
I like those too - great for quick meals for my family
Glad you tried it I actually have a can of this in my emergency preps but haven't tried it yet.. good ideas for cooking it. I was thinking frying it. And yes it is good to have a variety. I of course do Canning but for that price not bad. Anna In Ohio.
Cute video...love James’s expression 🤣🤣🤣
You and James are awesome!!!!!🤗
I have made them for years, different brands, Dollar General has Bristol Brand, both cooked and smoked, I have tried and like DAK Brand, I can't remember the brand that Family Dollar sells, but so far they have all been pretty good. I usually glaze mine with a brown sugar, vinegar, mustard and clove sauce I cook and them pour over the ham. I make ham salad for sandwiches out of the leftovers, or chop it up and add to Scallop or Au Gratin potatoes. If my kids are home for a visit, I take a can, use a biscuit cutter and on the wide end I push it through to make a round, then slice this thin, fry it, and put egg and cheese on a muffin with this to make an Egg McMuffin style breakfast sandwich. I have found many uses for it, and it is less expensive, longer lasting, no freezing or refrigeration needed, than buying a regular ham.
You know, I've looked at this stuff at the store but never purchased it.
Hey! Look at your glasses! Cute! And rationing those contacts!
LOL I LOVED the answer James gave you !!! Too funny !
Oh my gosh! I was thinking about this video the other day and since I have a few of those Aldi hams I wanted to try your version but couldn't find it...and here it is!😃 Hooray!!!👍
I just made same ham tonight for my son and I. It was just a small 1 pound. Fixed fried potatoes and English muffins. It was actually good. I will be getting more. I found them at walmart
Happy holidays.
I love canned ham. We slice it and fry it in a pan. We make fried egg , cheese, ham sandwich. I also cube it and add to scrabble eggs. I have never tried to bake it
Momma used to get canned hams from the grocery store, they were Black Lable and it wasn't chopped and reformed, it was real ham cut in the shape of the oval can. It was very good and not like spam at all. I want to say there were 3 lb and 5 lb sizes. And yes, they used a key to open it. I remember it tasting like sliced ham.
Sometime our local store will get pork shoulder in for less than a dollar a pound and I'll buy a couple and work up and can them and sometimes we do ham loaf and this looks alot like that. You husband and mine would probably be able to swap stories the look he had was nearly the one mine has when I ask him to try something different. 😄
Got a couple cans. I'm glad I found this video. It's still 2.99 in Oct 2023.
Thank you Patara, I literally have items in my Aldi's instacart right now, I will add this to the pantry for emergencies. Blessings dear!
Checked up and cooked in scalloped potatoes. Bean soup, ham salad,
Pea soup, ham and eggs, ham and cheese sandwiches, etc
Love your haircut and how sweet you are with all of you're animals. I bet you're a wonderful mother!!! Anyhow I used to love that ham like that when I was younger. I like to cut it in thin slices and fry it crispy, put cheese on it while it is still warm to make sandwiches😋 Yummy...
You had me laughing so much. Funny. And I subscribed.
Those are so good!
Looks good!
My husband bought up some for our preps!
Patara, you absolutely just make me laugh! I love your videos 😂❤️ I hope you and James are well.
Also you could use it in a casserole with eggs, even in a tortilla, anyway if you needed a meal! ❤xxoo Love the wooden pig!!😍
I just adore you. Lol, you crack me up. I feel like I'm in your kitchen with you.
I've never tried canned ham, but was wondering if was like spam. I do love that spreadable ham in a can though. Guess I gotta get ne some canned ham. Lol. Thanks for sharing this.
Love all of your fur babies, soooo sweet! ♡♡♡
Thank you, I'd forgot about these. Dont have an Aldi's but I will be finding some.
I will try it. I really hope you will do some updated goat care videos this coming year!
This ham can also be cooked in a microwave oven! Place the ham on a microwave-safe plate, then place a paper plate on top of it. Put it inside the microwave oven, and cook on “HIGH” for 4 minutes. Take the paper plate off of the top, and you’ll see that the top of the ham is lightly browned, and is ready to serve.
I make up dinner bags for our church's food pantry...I'm going to Slone name with canned pineapple, rice and a banana bread! Thanks for the idea. God bless.
Those canned hams are good baked for an hour or so with a glaze on them, or fried, or chopped up to make a ham salad for english muffin cheese melts. You can do so much with them, and the shelf life is great. Wonderful to have on the shelf. Thanks for the fun video.
Great video!
