I have less of an issue with price--similar electric bikes in this folding class are similarly priced. What bothers me is how much of the design features were lifted (copied/stolen) from the Brompton: the fold, the placement of the wheel on the folded frame, the folding pedal, nearly everything. You can get the original, built in London for $3,700. Stealing designs is usually a feature of developing countries.

The folding mechanism of the Brompton was invented in 1975, I don't think there is any patent on it anymore.
And for the folding pedals, every modern folding bike in the world have them, haven't they?

If you knex anything about folding bike and bikes in generals you would:
Know that there is only so many good ways to properly fold a bike frame without making an over engineered product that differenciate only for the sake of it . (strida/gocyle/helix etc etc)
Know that every technological advancement, if proven good enough will eventually end up being spread and use by the whole market . Brompton's folding is brillant, battle proven, patent is gone. Let the competiton do the works
Does campagnolo compains about other brand using deraileurs ?
you 'd knew that Folding pedals and trolley wheel are not a brompton exclusivity xD
The frame of the Ahooga is VASTLY different and while using some common idea regarding the folding sequence still went the extra miles to solve inherent probelm of the brompton design (frame flex and look, requirement of a steel construction, zero system integration) and create it very own design, construction, intergration of electric system, manufacturing, and esthetics.
while brompton exist for 40 yrs and sell around 50 000 pcs/Yrs , Ahooga is a small and young brand (1500 bikes/yrs) with nowhere near the budget to built a FRAME FACTORY to MAKE frame in EU , yet their MAX folding bike are still built (aka fully assembled) in house in Bruxelles. Frame is Made in Tawain just like every other high end aluminium bike manufacturer.
hopefully it help you uderstand the product a bit better :)
