- The Kneecut is probably the most effective pass in jiu-jitsu. You grind people into the mats and they really can't do anything but stare in horror as their plans of jiu-jitsu fame go in the trash.
But what if I told you that there's a simple movement that will stop the Knee Cut? Well, I'm not going to sit around and wait for you to answer this OBVIOUSLY rhetorical question. Just watch this video and you'll learn: THE KEYMASTER and Knee Cuts will become a thing of the past.

I had my knee messed up years ago in a competition doing something like this.
That's the first thing that came to mind seeing this.
This seems like an LCL tear waiting to happen. I wouldn’t try this with anyone other than a trustworthy training partner. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
With you on that
Totally agree. First instinct on anyone that sees that knee is to push it until it pops. So what kind of defense is that ?
Really good tec
Keenan still for president!

Oh no fuck that, I see him just driving your foot towards your head, jeez, might be survivable for you high level yoga boys.
Love to see you training with Andris! Is he just visiting or he is a permanent transplant?
He’s one of the main instructors there
Nice. But often the knee cut comes when the dude leg drags my leg between his legs. How do I get the foot to his hip if he has pushed my leg between his legs? Speed? Or pre-empt ie fight it?
Caio Terra showed a counter to it, involving De la Riva hook. Lets say they push right leg between their legs, use your left foot to DLR hook. Then right foot goes behind the butt, reinforcing the hook. Grab the ankle with left hand (or pants). Then you pull the guy over you. You want to have some collar or sleeve grip when that happens. They will lose balance, allowing you to reguard or go to X guard.
Exactly, who the hell starts a knee cut from this position as opposed to headquarters with the far leg already stuffed?
Bottom defence against tall guys passing please
I would like to see butterfly guard.
Some half guard passing would be cool to see, I have a lot of trouble passing half guard D:
Just stand up and pass standing

Trying this at tomorrow’s open mat 💀
Is he saying "romalo guard" or.. "palmalo guard"
Serious question... what's stopping him from just throwing his leg and all his weight into your ankle to pressure the knee joint sideways? It seems like the knee is isolated and he's got the ability to seriously torque it. Now maybe that would be a DQ in a tournament setting and so they aren't incentivized to do it, but realistically is that a danger?
Anatomically this technique is very bad for your knee, sure he says you should only use it to stop a knee cut and then the guard, it's just a bad position to stay in.
As someone who loves ankle locks (including from that position); the sleeve control makes a difference (with or without the quick transition to spider). If they reach with both hands for the ankle, or post anywhere but your far / outside shoulder, they concede access to your belt / hip / pants / back (not immediately, but there are options). In contrast to that, if they pass the foot to the other side with the downed knee (like a pseudo-50/50) then you can't take the back. Again though, I think it's the sleeve control that make the difference here.
Your Kiwi Padawan requests Scarf hold defenses, one training partner is a killer with these.
Ankle lock from anubis
