- The BBC has launched the World News Komla Dumor Award for 2022. The award was established seven years ago to honour Komla Dumor, an exceptional Ghanaian broadcaster and presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.
It seeks to find a rising star of African journalism with journalists living and working in Africa invited to apply. The Komla award aims to uncover and promote fresh talent from across the continent, and has come to mean a lot for young journalists as well as the family of Komla.
Victoria Rubadiri, the 2020 winner of this prestigious award paid a visit to Komla’s widow Kwansema Dumor and two of his kids, Elorm and Araba Dumor.

His Children resembles him so much, the boy speaks exactly like his Dad
Wow it's been almost 8 years already...watching him at BBC was definitely inspirational...may he continue to rest.
Waow. The son looks and speaks just like his dad. Rest on Komla
I used to listen to Komla on the radio every morning on my way to school. I was so proud when he went to the BBC. I'm glad his legacy lives on. RIP Komla Dumor ❤
He speaks exactly like his father. My heart melts ❤. Everyday I remember Komla how he presents.
I saw him when i used to work at Fiesta Royale Hotel in Ghana.
As soon as I saw him, i was full of excitement so I called his name: KOMLA and his response was so warm, he started chatting with me as if he knew me.
He was such a sweet soul.
Komla was such a great human being, i met him at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank in 2013, he had such an infecious laugh, he was so friendly, may his beautiful soul continue to rest🙌👏
What a wonderful guy. He is deeply missed
8 years already! His children are his spitting image!! Komla was a face I always looked forward to seeing on BBC prior to his death. May his soul RIP.
Damn, I just hear Komla's voice through the son's.
I never leave RUclips comments but when I was an American high schooler watching him on Focus on Africa was what I did every day after school. He helped foster my passion for African affairs and politics and I still remember how shocked I was to hear of his passing.
Komla was my favourite on bbc, I remember that very day when he passed away the previous day he was reading news the following morning he was gone
The voice of Africa
I hope you take over from komla
I’m not in that field my current favourite reporter is #FollyBah
His son's voice brought memories n grouse bombs
And this boy speaks like him. Can he take it up?
I hope his family sees these comments. Komla often pops into my thoughts. I hope the fact he still has the power to be in people's thoughts brings them immense pride and comfort ❤️.x.
I miss him so much, i still remember to this day how shocked and saddened I was finding out he died on that January night, if it wasn’t for Komla and focus on Africa, I would have still been horrified by just negative stories of the continent of Africa, and his efforts along with the programme itself help changed that narrative and got me over my fears of images of famine in Ethiopia, for instance, and also too inspired me to do the same with my now passion for Europe and to have balanced reporting about European news stories too
May his gentle soul rest in peace
8 years unbelievable! May u continue 2 rest in power one of Africas finest!
Rest well, Champ
Mr. Komla Dumor, may your soul continue to rest in the Lord's bosom. #prideofafrica #prideofghana
