i play bass, but i always love to see drummers break down danny carey's work. though i know nothing about drums, it isnt hard to tell that you are an aficionado in this field. would love to jam with you! great vid.
Thank you for taking the time to write that. I love sharing my passion for drumming and music and DC and Tool indeed rock bigtime! Where are you based? (:
After watching this video and listening to it like 40 times I think I got it😂 thank you for breaking it down so well! Definitely one of Danney Carey’s harder drum beats
Thank you! I haven't played in a long time and I've been getting back into it. I really wanted to learn this part because I felt like it would help get me back on track. This is exactly how I needed it broken down.
Thank you so much for taking the time to say that - much appreciated! Here's to your enjoyment of your results with the video. What other things would you love to learn on drums? (:
@@windsordrums Right on! I want to learn anything by Danny Carey might need to start with the easier stuff before "Pnuema" lol 😂 The bridge for "The Pot" on drums would be freaking amazing if I can learn that
@@windsordrums My pleasure, sir. Seriously though, this video has already helped me a lot. I'm hearing everything when I listen to this groove, but to hear you say it and break it down like that, has really helped me overcome a hurdle....plus putting in the actual work (like you said). I think I'm on my way now! Fingers crossed
@@windsordrums I have a limited time to play after work daily and more time on the weekends, but I’ve made my way about 2/3 of the way through this groove now. I had to start with getting the groove of the two hands and the high hat foot, do that repetitively until it felt somewhat natural, and then start to integrate the kick drum foot. Integrating the kick drum has been the longest part of this process. There has been progress every day, even if it was just one or two kicks. I’ve watched this video several times this week. Sometimes I feel like I’m watching it just to see the “bite sized chunks“ part (I smile every time), and then to hear you say if you and Danny Carey can do it, I can do it. Thanks again man!
@@johnglaze7882 Congratulations on your progress with the groove. I couldn't do it either the first time I tried, and with repetition and celebrating every bit of your progress along the way, I'm sure that before you know it you'll be smiling and reeling this one off in your stride. You got this! (:
Windsor, I would like a break down and to know more about the tom-kick roll about 3:41 into the song Flood, by Tool. To me, that track is among the most accessible of Danny’s material. I would like to be able to play that part accurately though. The end of the track gives me trouble as well. I’m not great at keeping a consistent and accurate double kick going though. I just do it with single kicks.
@@windsordrumshe was heavily influenced by him, so it makes sense. Hearing you slow it down reveals it for me. Until then, I thought it was Danny’s own thing. Just replace the 16th notes on the hat. Right?
@@mostlyanchors168 thank you for your reflections - I’m now hearing Danny’s beat in a new way. Yes it’s similar to ‘Levee’ yet the polyrhythmic take on that moves it to a very new level. Very cool! 👌🏽
@@mostlyanchors168 on this one, if Danny quoting a similar version the beat for “When The Levee Breaks” was his intention, he further made it his own not just by adding the 16th’s on the hats but the 3/16 polyrhythmic figure that really makes this one pretty elegant, rhythmically, and even more satisfying to get down. (:
That's the quickest way to be able to play a mindblowing section of a tool song I"ve ever seen!
Keeping it simple, my friend, thank you! 👍
