Patrick, first of all, it was a fun video to watch, I've been following your content for a while and I'm eagerly awaiting your book's release. I have something to say about this, you probably know it very well but I still wanted to mention it. Marketing a book is much more important than writing it and editing it a million times to make it perfect. In fact, if you can market a book well, you don't even need to have written a good book, unfortunately that's the case. One of my close friends wrote a book and published it on Amazon, I was her beta reader, and although I thought the book was great, she couldn't afford to market it, so she only sold 12 copies, or rather gave them away for free. So when your book is released (I'm sure it will be very entertaining and literaryly satisfying), you should allocate budget and time to marketing it. I wish you success.
thank you for the comment. I 100% agree with you. Marketing a book is essential and it is the biggest disadvantage indue authors have compared to trad authors. However, (And I acknowledge I am beyond lucky), I have in an incredible series of events been able to earn 90,000 followers on Instagram, 4000 on TikTok, and 2400 on RUclips. Obviously, that does not guarantee success, but it is an incredible starting point. I fear I'm simply committing too much to social media/marketing and not enough to writing. At this current stage in my process, I just feel I'm further along in marketing skills then actual writing skills. My aim moving forward is to produce the same level of content (or even level up) while putting in less time! I'm mostly aiming to replace procrastination (in the form of binge writing content) with writing!
I am honestly planning (assuming I get a job) on spending around 4k on the Op Ark initial release with half of that going into editing, a quarter going into cover art/3d assets, and then the rest for marketing campaigns. idk if that is reasonable but that is my current idea?!
I need to get my writing schedule under control lol idk what it is anymore, but I feel like it's all over the place, and I feel like maybe I'm not writing enough
Much love from a old friend, I just found this RUclips and I can not believe how well put together these videos are. Class channel
Aye, thanks man!
