Interesting bike, although not a lot of them are being brought into Oz. Looks like KTM has stopped bringing the 690 Duke R into Oz (is that the same in the UK?), which was the main argument against the Vitpilen 701. Although that said, if you aren't fixed on the idea of a single, the relative exclusivity or the styling, the 790 Duke is about a grand cheaper here.

Assuming you want to compare new to new, let me help: reheated Duke 690 with hipster looks (albeit very nice ones) or motorcycling perfection running an engine good enough for Moto2 with nearly 50 additional HP (while still screaming to 12.500 rpm), for 500 EUR more (Street Triple R 765)... should be a no-brainer.

Just 6 Dealers selling Husqvarna in South Africa - all are multi brand bike retailers - indicates a low volume brand. In fact to see one on the road here is rare. Enjoyed your 5 Likes and all appeal to me too. A Single usually also has the added benefit of miserly fuel consumption. A great different stand-out quirky rather odd swedish commuter then. GBP 8,300 here at todays exchange rate, so you pay a lot for wanting to be different. Is this engine used on their industrial chainsaws?

They look great (although I found the riding position really uncomfortable when I tried one). The problem with these as I see it, is that I can't see many people buying one as their only bike...and as most people can only afford one bike, I don't think they'll shift very many. I've got a local Honda/Triumph/Huskqvarna dealership and it's full of 701 and 401's, which they admit they're struggling to sell, even though people come into the showroom and admire them.

This is one of the major differences between car and bike ownership.. Who cares about the exhaust pipe bend on a car - or how the engine looks.. With a bike, things like these become factors to be weighed up when contemplating a purchase. Yes, I love the way Husqvarna has got the weight down - and yes, I love the fact it's a big single.. but I honestly couldn't see myself in the gargae at 6.30am, in my pyjamas, with a mug of coffee looking at this bike from all angles. There's functional and there's plug ugly. This is plug ugly. Sorry Husqvarna.
