As the spot mics I have experimented with a strange combination: one of Schoeps MK4 and Neumann KM184 for double bass as well as piano. I am not 100% happy with that idea, though, cardioids are (like always) sounding a bit too thin for the bass

It's just okay. The line becomes muddied within the first minute or so as phrases are passed between the two players. The pacing is oppressive at times. But not bad overall.
