I bought this fantastic 12 string in the first place for the better playable neck AND a cheaper alternative for the Byrds jangle compared to the Rickenbacker 12 string, but I discovered that the guitar is also very well suited for ambient synth pieces. I play it in a combination of my EHX Mel 9, Boss Sy1 and EHX String9 pedals, and it delivers a very broad sound comparable to the best of Vangelis' 1970's works.
Don't seem to be able to reply to my original post, but I just wanted to say that the Gretsch G5422G-12 is a little better, neck-wise, but I'd still prefer a chunkier neck. The Gretsch is a better guitar, imo. It is the closest tone to a Ricky that I've yet heard. I am in the process of owning one. :)
Played one, almost bought it. The neck profile is too thin for my large mitts, though. My left hand cramped up when moving up and down the neck. I have found the thin necks on most Hags that I've played have the same problem, which is why I am trying to sell my Super Swede, lol.
i have one of these, amazing tone. just wondering, is it possible for me to only play it with 6 strings? or would some strange misshaping happen with the wood because it's designed to take the weight of 12?
TheNeonRabbit: Correction... The case needed for this Guitar is the Hagstrom model B-62 Viking Bass-Viking Baritone Guitar Case available right now at Reverb.com for 129.00... The list price on this case is 199.99
Not even close. While the B-62 baritone/bass case does offer the needed length for the headstock. the body just plain won't fit in it. With the tailpiece end flush up against the inside of the case, the "horns" would need at least 2 more inches for me to be able to even get the case closed. I'd be pretty pissed about having blown $130 bucks if I weren't planning to get the Viking bass eventually anyway. Either they changed the dimensions of the Viking DLX 12, or the dimensions of the B-62 case since you got yours. Hagstrom insists that the "right" case for this is the one for the regular 6-string Viking, but wedging it in one of those (I've tried) leaves the tip of the headstock right up against the inside of the case, under waaay more pressure than I'd be comfortable with. I'm just gonna wrap my Hag 12 up in a blanket, take it to Guitar Center, and tell 'em "I need a hard-shell to protect this, and I don't care who makes it or what it looks like".
TheNeonRabbit: That is very disconcerting news... I actually am waiting for my Hagstrom Viking DLX 12 string and the B-62 case to arrive. The reason that I posted about this subject is because when one goes to the Hagstrom website and looks up one of these Guitars, it clearly states that the case and Hag Bag designed for this case is (Hard shell case B-62) (Hag Bag B-41) I would never steer anyone wrong intentionally.... My Guitar and case should be here tomorrow or the next day.... I guess I will be returning the case and doing what you suggest.... Going to Guitar Center and finding a good after market hard shell case that fits... UHG!! I am very sorry to have created such difficulties for you bro... Peace!

I just bought this one but the tobacco sunburst colour one, looking good
There's a small chance the neck may bend a bit but that's easy to adjust through the truss rod so I think it should be perfectly fine
great demo, this is my next guitar for sure.

This guitar is a sexy beast for sure.
Easy thumb up.
