- Soon after Lem's 27th birthday, Bird finds out that she is pregnant. But Lem is furious when she decides to have an abortion. Teri is offered an adjunct faculty position at Northwestern University School of Law. Ahmad starts dating Keisha again. Teri's panic attacks return.
It’s not talked about enough how great this show really was. It captured real life topics and issues. This ep showed the realness in how making the decision to keep a baby or not affects a couple and shows how men can feel powerless in the decision
Bird is a selfish spoiled brat! that is not a decision a married woman gets to make on her own and force on her husband like that. Lem shoulda left her, she left him for Wayyyyy less

And she really had the nerve to ask him to be there for the appointment cause she needed the support. That was the most selfish thing in my opinion. I always thought Lem could do better
I love this episode. The topics that are depicted are great conversion pieces for people to have with one another.

For real!! I just said that as well. Lem takes too much shit from Bird. In season 1, he has his issues,but is a good and down to earth brother. Even the way Teri used to treat him was MESSED up! he takes too much shit.
No disrespect, but I think it's selfish. Bird is married, and they both agreed to have sex, so there is a possiblility of getting pregnant. If Lem wants the baby, then she should have the baby. What are the ramifications on your marriage and yourself if you don't. Is not having the baby so much more important.
I understand where she is coming from. Her life is comfortable and she doesn't want it to change. Then again, the baby didn't ask to be conceived. so if she was serious about not having another baby, she should have used a more effective method of birth control. I get both sides.
This is why women should not say ANYTHING until she has made up her mind what to do. Now how would she feel if she wanted the baby and Lem did not?

Here’s how this goes....
1. Lem OFFERED to be the primary caregiver!
2. Yes she was on the pill, but not even that is 100%. When you have sex, you accept ALL of the responsibility that comes with it! That includes GETTING PREGNANT! Whether you meant for it to happen or not.
3. IT IS her body and the FINAL decision is up to her. BUT, just because it’s her choice, doesn’t mean she made the RIGHT choice! She is not in a marriage by herself and she damn sure didn’t make the baby by herself! What if Lem didn’t want the baby and she did? THEN WHAT? Would Lem have the right to walk out on his family? It’s “his choice” right? NOPE!
4. That was an extremely selfish decision that Bird made. The final choice was up to her, but that didn’t mean Lem had to support her decision. He had a right to speak up, say how he felt, and not support her!
5. Let’s put it like this, it’s HER BODY that’s carrying the baby until it’s born, but it’s NOT HER BODY that’s being destroyed!! Yes she is killing another person, her child. I’m sorry, but that’s something you cannot argue against! It is what it is!
Lem is so in the right...Bird is just being selfish as usual.

I got your back 100%. This is the 4th time that I'm watching this series and each time I see this episode, my toes curl in anger. On a general note, Bird overall is SELFISH as hell and of the three of them, she always got on my nerves. In the beauty shop we would have sister talks about this show and Teri takes alot of heat, but Bird gets on my damn nerves. Lem has alot of swag and takes too much from her.
A maried woman shouldn't have an abortion if her husband is not ok, seriously...

Yes but the moment the baby is there, there shouldn't be any other choice than get use to idea of raising another baby soon. I'm sick of people thinking that abortion is always a solution. Plus she is married, what normal married woman get an abortion? Abortion is evil, sorry to say it

@mistresstypechick12 I couldn't have said it better , it's pure selfishness ...y is it that when a man wants no part in raising the baby society judges him like crazy but when a woman goes and murders n innocent child , the world feels sorry for her , they say it's her body..if bird was going through financial troubles and all those crazy things then maybe but look at her life , she's got it perfect and she won't thank the Lord for what she has and just accept this gift from him??? I'm with Lem!

With that choice comes the responsibiity. No man wants to hear that choice. No woman wants to hear, "I want you to abort or you're going to have my baby". You choose to not have the baby, you keep that to yourself and take it to the grave.

You say Lem isn't the one who is gonna be a stay at home Dad and give up his social life huh? So how come earlier in the episode he was willing to do just that? Not to mention, when Bird went back to work back in season 1, he basically was J's primary caregiver. And if she didn't want another child, then she shouldn't have had sex PERIOD!
that's a difficult situation that bird is in. but ultimately i feel it's the woman's choice because it's her body and time (mainly hers) that's going to go into nuturing that baby. although i do see lem's side...

i understand what bird is sayin & i empathize with her because it is a difficult situation & i get her not wanting to deal with it all, especially since she was using birth control, but if you're having sex there's a chance of pregnancy, she should've take more effective means of prevention, but using abortion as birth control isn't coo & she needs to consider her hubby's feelings, what if she wantd the baby & he didnt? then what? she even tries to coerce him into going with her, kind of selfish
