Thanks to Keith @ 5 Watt World, I found this awesome channel. Sub'd *Edit - Ha! I knew it was gonna be good. You mentioned my favorite band already, The Allman Brothers. I think I'm gonna like this channel. A lot. 👍😎🎸
Hi Jeff, Just discovered your channel and went like woooowwww. Absolutely lovin it!! I think I finally found a way to learn and play my '58 vos les paul. I have always just loved that late 50's and 60's sound an I think you are spot on with it.
Jeff, thank you so much for this video. It is hands down the best one I have found to date, simple, inclusive (noobies aren't always catered for) and practical, loved it. :)
Jeff, I want to thank you for your effects video here on YT and this amp tone one.. Loved that you put in a “I endorse what I play” disclaimer. I bought the Truefire AllAccess but fiddle-farted around until about 2 weeks ago, went searching to see if I was going to do a doggone thing with it and lucked into your blues courses. Nothing like a Corona Death-march Dodo Blues to get you straight about priorities. Damn shame it takes a shock like this to make it real! Keep playing, teaching and being real, brother. Hope you get to Houston sometime in the 20’s.
McErlain, I've got a bone to pick with you! You need to stop making so many great Truefire courses. You're gonna break me. *lol* Just looked over your recommendation for Jeff Scheetz's "Street Theory," too, and it looks awesome!! *TONS* of stuff in that one. I'm getting it tomorrow (payday), and then your "Soloing the Changes" next. Keep up the great work!
Just to be clear, you really need an attenuator to get the golden sounds. Otherwise you’ll either have to have a lower power amp and it may or may not be enough (thinking of gigs too where guitar amp is not mic’ed, or when it is but the sound guy tells you it’s too loud still) but with attenuator you can turn it up to what’s needed?
Hey i just watched another newer one of your video's and you said you got 10K subs and started your channel in March of this year 2020? This is from 2018. Looks like you been doing RUclips a lot longer than March onward.
Jeff, your shipwrecked on an island that has electricity and your favorite rig (wife optional:), you can only bring either a strat or LP....no fence sitting...man up...which weapon do ya bring????
What volume did you have the Marshall at? I'm new to OX. Just nabbed one. I use a Two Rock. When I crank the amp into OX - I get a lot of distortion...saying that I'm over modulating the OX...I think.
Not being experienced with Marshall’s, can you get that Statesboro Blues tone straight out of a 50 watt Marshall? I use a pedal by Missing Link Audio called The Statesboro Bluesman. It sounds great getting that tone. Now if I could only play like Duane, lol
@@JeffMcErlain Thanks. I was trying to balance my output levels when switching pickups by adjusting the height of them and thought maybe the eq pedal would help there. Cheers.
I really love your videos but in my opinion Throbak pickups are just not very good. I had er customs. They were awful. Shrill highs and no body. For $800 that they cost AUD they are so not worth it. The other models may be nice but the er customs were terrible
That Strat sounds good. Basic thing is experiment to get the sound you want - play with the knobs. Helpful video. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic! And thanks for being here!
Great tutorial, Jeff. Rule one: set the amp so the neck pickup sounds good.
That's the video I looked for so long! Now my trusty old Model 1987 and I become friends. Thank you Jeff.

Thanks for letting me know Justin! Happy you liked it!
Thanks Jeff! Wish I had known this many years ago when I first got a LP.
Excellent video, Jeff. Really helpful
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Excellent Jeff! Thank you! Greetings from Argentina

Great stuff, thanks!
Thank you!
I love the way that educated guitarists describe guitar tones- much in the same way a wine connoisseur describes fine spirits.

Hmmm ok I'm new here... This is the first video of yours that I've watched and...

Some Tele players like to wire the tone knob to the bridge pickup only to help the setup balance.

very good
Excellent, Jeff. Thank you.
Great demo...
I now completely hear the difference between the single coil vs humbucker output differences at high gain.
Great advice 👍🏻

Sure. Had a few thousand up until I started posting regularly in March.
@@JeffMcErlain Oh ok. Sounds good to me. Your playing is incredible by the way.
Thank you!

Hi Jeff , what is your recording chain here ? only OX ? just got the OX and diggin the tones for the Blues
Are u still using and loving the ox?
@@benallmark9671 not really , i prefer to use mics where possible

I can run the Marshall on 10 into the ox. With no issues. Same with the two-rocks. No issues.
@@JeffMcErlain Hmm, on 10. Interesting. Not happening for me. Thx.
Do you use a treble bleed circuit Jeff?
No, I prefer the vintage wiring. Good quality pots and capacitors make a big difference.
Didn’t Duane use a fuzz with batteries that were worn?
I have no idea. I’ve never heard that!

Do you use treble bleeds on your volume pots?
No, I’m not a big fan of those for classic gtr sounds. That’s my opinion of course. 😉
What sort of setting do you use for your strat on the eq pedal?
Hey! I wasn’t using the eq pedal. I mainly use it to change the characteristic of the overdrive.
@@JeffMcErlain Thanks. I was trying to balance my output levels when switching pickups by adjusting the height of them and thought maybe the eq pedal would help there. Cheers.
What fender is that?
Thanks actually a Michael Tuttle Strat .
what do you mean "turn the volume down"? 😆
What!?!?! 😂

Here's how you get good guitar tones.. drop about 3000 USD.. no.. seriously
Ha! Yes I know, but... the concepts remain true no matter what the cost.
OK but on what exactly ?
