I just looked up Bryn Bliska, the pianist. Holy cow, she has a graduate degree in neurosciences, and Maggie has a divinity degree from Harvard. Plenty of intellectual firepower in that studio.

Magical performance from Maggie and Bryn Bliska (who plays on piano here and in Maggie's band on tour). This is like the 3rd cover from Maggie just this week that blows me away. What an amazing singer.
100% The Joni Mitchel thing was just insane and now this. She seems to have a perfect ear. Wish her all the very best. Piano reminds me of James Hooker from Nanci Griffith's Blue Moon Orchestra.... Tasty, tasty-tasty good stuff.

Mike Reid, singer, songwriter and first round draft choice defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals wrote this song. That much talent in one person is amazing.

This song done well kills me. The version that Bon Iver did years ago is my favorite. Check it out if you aren’t familiar with it.
Ms. Rogers' vocal beauty is undeniable but, as others have said, this was a duo rendition of this heartbreaking song. This virtuoso of a pianist, with her incredible phrasing and delicate nuances, elevated this recording to stratospheric levels. As a composer and musician myself (more deep house, soul, funk neighborhood), I am always rejuvenated when I come across such incredible musical mastery. Pushes me to up my own game. =) Much respect and hats off.

Pianists know by watching which pianists have technical skill & which _feel_ the music. Bryn feels it and translates the emotions through her touch, the music, and what she experiences physically. THAT is how music should be. It's meant to move you.
New Maggie fan, ancient Bonnie Raitt fan here. I've seen BR do that song live several times and was always blown away. Love Susan Tedeschi's version, too. But this one - damn! The nuance & depth, the exquisite phrasing & tone! And then there's that piano. Well done all around! Looking forward to a lot of outstanding listening to Maggie's musical artistry.

I recall seeing one of the original writers of this song sing this at the Bluebird some years ago when i was pursuing my own hopes .... you bring that great Maggie culture to this tune... it shows like you wrote it... that is one of the great qualities of a good writer singer... possession and ownership of a tune... nicely done Maggie

when you sing like that, it don't matter what mic you're using. The 58 is also a very common mic used for live singing with major artists.
Sm58 is great for live but not for studio. Anyway- she is amazing and this is a great shot and most people would not know the difference but will just feel it ❤I feel it deeply still and can also hear that a different mic would have been nice

She has a beautiful voice and excellent phrasing but like so many young singer today--and even the not-so-young--she swallows words, gets too quiet, and generally makes it hard to catch the words. I have Bonnie Raitt's "Nick of Time" album with this on it and every word is crystal clear. The lyric is so moving that it is a shame to have it hard to make out.
