Helpful tip when dealing with military security police who exit the base perimeter to confront you next time:
    1) immediately ask for the name and phone number of their commander.
    2) call said commander and tell him/her that his/her security force troops have left the perimeter of the base to confront a civilian.
    3) he/she will immediately ask to speak to the NCO in charge of the group you are speaking to.
    4) problem immediately solved. And I do mean IMMEDIATELY.
You are under no obligation to speak to them or even acknowledge them in any way per the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ)

He said that he was an E5. MSgt = E7. The photographer was off base, in a public place. The most the SF members should have done was take pictures of him taking pictures and then file an informational report.

Terrorism is an especially ironic reason, given that any act of unlawful violence intended to alter political behavior (such as a first amendment audit) meets every criteria found in the federal statutory definition of terrorism. It is impossible to handcuff someone -- or even to touch them with a fingertip -- during an illegal arrest without committing an act of unlawful violence.

Yup ... Same as the Law Enforcement. These days, if you aren't in Uniform, you are a threat.
Anyone you make contact with should be treated as an Enemy Combatant.
We aren't citizens to serve anymore, we are Enemies to be feared and dealt with as Threats.

Everyone can be a threat, I would be upset if a soldier saw something unusual and didn't investigate. The fruit of the tree, it doesn't matter if it's bad or good but still look into it if there's any and I mean any feeling something's off. people that think that these military guys are wrong obviously have no training and have never encountered actual threats

Retired Air Force here... There is a Computer Based Training that Literally has a whole section aimed at You see someone across the street filming/taking pictures. And if they are there for a spell to treat it as a terrorist activity cause they are filming a security procedure..(Entering the base)… I always hated that part.. Every movie tells you what that is ohh a military ID checkpoint with vehicle pass wow that's hard..) I always answered the question as how they wanted. But never would act on that BS training.. Google maps google earth and the Military Bases own Public website can tell you 1000% more info than watching the front gate.

Agree with you. I can see the viewpoints of others posting also .. Any tiny bit of information about anything, even the main gate operations can be added to the big picture so to speak. When I was stationed in Germany in the mid 80s people with cameras and long lenses would be off base at each end of the runway taking pictures of the aircraft and documenting tail numbers and times of takeoff and returns. Very powerful lenses. Got pictures of the aircrews too . Before I was stationed in Germany I went TDY to Ramstein several times. The people off base taking pictures would be
tracking everything. Incoming C141s bringing us in to include tail numbers and times. When the F4s started to arrive the same thing.. Pictures taken for the entire duration of the TDY . They at night during the midnight shift would still be there with cameras ready and recorded every sound . While TDY to Ramstein most of us were billeted at the barracks or a hotel in Vogelwhie near K Town. Sorry for the spelling. Any way when the buses came to pick us up to take us to Ramstein there was always someone there no matter what time of day or night taking pictures of the bus , documenting the registration numbers and how many people boarded the buses and time of departure. Upon arrival to the gate at Ramstein there was always someone hanging around off base documenting the time the buses would arrive at the main gate. That was during the annual Crested Cap exercise which was part of the annual Reforger exercise.

I love how they make a deal out of "recording their security procedures" as though it's top secret. I was an Air Force Brat and spent 23 years in the Navy. The Security procedures for the gates of all military bases have been exactly the same since I can remember. Cars drive up, people show ID and they are waved in if they are allowed or told to turn around and leave if they are not. Also (and this is not meant as disrespect to Military Police), It does not take a lot to qualify as a military policeman, the ASVAB score required is pretty low.
