So very nice to see your family working together on a future family heirloom. I've been enjoying woodworking for over 40 years. A good reminder for you is that no matter how precise the equipment is, there will still be imperfections. Almost all of the time, the craftsman is the only one who will ever notice it. Great job! Have a great week!
The chest is most certainly not made like they do at IKEA! I wonder if tobacco was used for wood stains. My grandfather would touch up furniture with a stain made from the pods that walnuts grew in. He only spit tobacco. It was a treat to meet Elizabeth!
Mike’s face really lights up with Elizabeth helping out. I’d imagine it brings back memories of family projects and makes this one all the more special. Love the teeth method. We need it returned in modern furniture making.
So lovely to meet your beautiful daughter! She is a sweetheart, jumping right into helping Dad with his project and being game for an appearance on RUclips. I thought she had a resemblance to Mike, but when Jeanie joined you two in the "workshop", I thought she looked like Mom. Finally, standing between the two of you, I see the best parts of both! ❤ Hope Elizabeth had a safe trip back home. I can't wait to see the next installment of work on the chest. It's exciting to watch it take shape. It must be so satisfying to see it and know you've that with your own 4 hands. Well, now 6 hands, thanks to your daughter!
So lovely to meet your daughter! The chest is turning out really nice. I especially appreciate the way you explain your processes and all the thinking it through that is necessary.
It was nice to have met your daughter Elizabeth. I’m sure Mike n Jeannie you had a wonderful time with her. Hope she’ll come back again next year soon. Mike I had no doubts in you making this blanket box. I think you did a great job on it. I know Jeannie is so happy with it. Not only that but so happy you made it for her. It will always be very special to her I’m sure. Can’t wait to see how you’ll do the staining on it. You’ll have to do some reading up. I’m with you 100% to make it the way they did many years ago. I just know it’s gonna be beautiful. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟👏👏
This Old House did a series in Charleston, SC. They used iron work made by students from the American College of Building Arts. Perhaps they would have the items you need for the chest. So good to see your daughter. I hope you had a wonderful time together.
Now that IS a special guest! I'm sure it was a joy to get to spend time with your daughter! Thank you for letting us meet her. It looked like she was really enjoying helping Dad with the blanket chest! It looks really good. It will be interesting to see what you stain it with.
Nice work! Couple of tips for you, for what they’re worth. Use a card scrapper to clean off the glue residue. When you are nit using your table saw retract the blade below the table and move the rip fence over the blade.
Hello, Elizabeth! It's nice to meet you! You were so brave to be on the show, and we hope to see you again ❤ It was exciting to see the blanket chest come together. Good job! 👍
You might want to look into finishing it with a dark finishing wax. If you instead go with a stain, the pine should be coated with a sanding sealer first to prevent it from having a blotchy appearance. One way to handle glue squeeze-out is to wipe it down immediately with a handful of sawdust until it is all removed.
Would you consider using Osmo on the wood to give it a satin finish. It's what they use in France when restoring old cabinets and furniture etc. There's a great channel titled, "The Pethricks" where they've restored a Chateau and they are restoring an old Convent. You might enjoy and see what they have learned about old restoration of wood keeping it in the era it was built.
After all the work to put the box together, it seems a shame to knock it apart and do it all again. Yes, per your comment of not needing glue to keep everything together, I thought the same seeing how well it all fit, you weren't going to glue it. Now you know why I don't work making anything in wood, I wouldn't be making it correctly. 🙄😉 How long was Elizabeth visiting and what state does she live in. If she lives further up north, I'm sure SC weather was more spring like for her. 😊
I Love seeing one of your kids. I can see she is just as smart and hard working as both her parents are. I love the name Elizabeth we have many women in our family with that name. Our newest Elizabeth is only 5 months old! She is beautiful too!! She's my great-niece. I love your wood working episodes, Mike . That blanket chest is beautiful! I love it!

Thank you for the encouraging words. I am my own worst critic when it comes to joinery.
Your daughter is so pretty like her mom. Nice to meet you Elizabeth!

Thanks for the tips! That dado blade is really intimidating.
Way better than any flat pack, piece of furniture. Beautiful storage trunk/chest. A future heirloom.
Hard to imagine it being an heirloom, but it could happen!
Hello, Elizabeth! It's nice to meet you! You were so brave to be on the show, and we hope to see you again ❤ It was exciting to see the blanket chest come together. Good job! 👍

Hi Elizabeth! Nice to see/meet you! The blanket chest is coming along nicely! Love the Jeanie is so tickled with it already.
Beth is now RUclips famous! Sounds like everyone had a blast, glad you were able to plan a visit. Maybe I should make my way back out this year… 🤔
Elizabeth , looks like her Dad ! I think she would be a very sweet young lady !
She is!
Wonderful meeting your daughter!! Oh yes….the chest is turning out beautifully!!

Was going to suggest
We watch the Pethericks, but haven't seen the Osmo episode.
Thanks for showing more work on the Blanket chest.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You’re welcome 😊
It's about time you shared your family!
Lol!

Maybe a dark shellac for the finish?
Hello, Elizabeth!
You are using the terms rabbit and dado opposite. Dado is the slot at bottom of sides, rabbit is the open sided one on the bottom panel.
Welcome to the channel!
Nice blanket chest! Good job!
Thank you! 😊
Getting your daughter into the business. You're like Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds (without Elizabeth Taylor and drugs, of course).
Lol!
Who is this lady helping you?😳👍
His daughter
Contact Kaleb about the stain.
We'll check it out.
Well, i think i figured out who was in the guest room. Always a good time when the kidos come home. The chest is looking great. Enjoy the week. 👋❤️🤍💙
You are right!
