The Olana State Historic Site and Living Landscape at Catskills, New York

On our way home from the Postcard Cabins, we noticed a castle on a hill and decided to visit it on a whim. The architectural style was unfamiliar to us, and we initially thought it might have a religious theme. We later found a sign that described Olana, the house, and its owner, Frederic Church. Frederic Church trained with and painted alongside Thomas Cole, the founder of the Hudson River School, and lived in Olana, a Persian-inspired home set in a beautifully designed landscape. We plan to visit again for a house tour.
