Condition of Guruvayur Anakkottil (den/camp) is very pathetic and unhealthy. Eles are tortured tying them in short chains. Even though water is kept in small tanks near them, they are tied in such a way that they cannot get water even if they extend their ' hand ' (trunk) to its full length. Thatches of coconut palms, given to them as fodder lie shredded and heaped with dung. They are not let loose and walk freely at any time of a day. The atmos becomes stinky during rains. Supervision, running and looking after them, medical treatment(?), healthy food & environment - all seem to be alien to them. Entrance to visitors was denied 2 years back. Some animal loving organisations may visit the place and suggest remedial measures. Almost all Eles are offerings of devotees, including the one offered by a former Chief Ministr(ess) of Tamil Nadu. There seems to have no Eles that are caught from forests directly.

All captive elephants including calves should be sent to Trivandrum elephant camp to be grouped into herds of approximately 30 elephants & these herds should be released in the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve to lead a free life & to preserve forests & prevent mud sliding & floods & stabilise climate change & safeguard us.
