this is the quintessential Linda Thompson performance - and one of the finest recorded performances ever of R&L - or anyone else for that matter. i am so grateful for this being available here.
This performance always flattens me. I'm helpless. I'm a 41 year man who wasn't alive when this was recorded. I found the song more or less by accident when I was in my 20s. And this video a few years later. It feels like I'm in church when I watch it. It's one of the most powerful things ever recorded on tape. Thank you Richard and Linda, for making this world a richer, purer, more beautiful place.
I remember that, it was '91 - the Rumor and Sigh tour. I only recall them playing together with his band, but that was a long time, and twenty something live RT shows ago.
"Tongues talk fire and eyes cry rivers" - all the misunderstanding between men and women is summed up in these seven simple words - I'm so glad you love this song, and you're right; you don't have to "scream" emotion - so often, less is more....
Did you notice right at the end how the guy presenting is just sat with head down, completely absorbed in the performance. Clearly he was in the right job for all the right reasons:)
There's an excerpt from Jet Plane from (I assume) the same date in an interview about his 1000 years tour here on RUclips. Link is : v=ltjzSEuIT2Y (paste on the end of RUclips url)

Absolutely beautiful.
Stunningly good.
This is quite sublime.
If you haven't already, have a listen to 'the Ghost of You Walks' - to further touch that tender spot:)
Great song!
How'd they go on 'Idol'?
Magnificent!
Gee ....the tone of voice and look in the first ten seconds ...i thought it was that coldplay prat ! ....no fear - tis the great richard thompson.

@neohip Right on Neochip. This is songwriting (and guitaring) at it's best. She does have the voice of an angel though.
Beautiful :-)))
perfection
Great song. Great performance. I prefer it when his songs are sung by others.
Ah, the 70s - when the BBC couldn't even afford to heat its studios....
💋💜🌺🌺🌺
Beautiful Do you know Richard's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning?"
Don't suppose you have Jet Plane from this same date?
caution: will rip your heart out if youre feeling lonely.
James and Carly?
Phew! Uppitydodah!
must be cold in that studio.
I saw on a comment somewhere that Richard was battling the flu...
