The Story of The Golden Triangle: Nintendo's Secret Weapon (Part 1/3)

  • We felt like doing a Nintendo video this week. They're always fun, even if BretonStripes struggles with Japanese name pronounciation sometimes.
    Learning about what Satoru Iwata calls "The Golden Triangle" has been fascinating. A few key faces always seem to get the credit at Nintendo, so it's fun to learn a little about some of the less well-known creators who are vitally important to some of Nintendo's best games, such as Excitebike, The Legend of Zelda, and of course, Super Mario Bros.
    Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, and Toshihiko Nakago are three talented creators who all have special skills. While Shigeru is a big picture ideas man, Takashi was responsible for making gameplay and design decisions for plenty of your favourite Nintendo games, both on the NES (Famicom) and the SNES, and through to the recent generation of Switch and 3DS titles. Meanwhile, Toshihiko is one of Nintendo's superstar programmers, even if, when starting out, he did need a lot of help from Satoru Iwata himself.
    This story was fun because it shows how friendships, forged in crunch periods, can last for decades. The halcyon early days of Nintendo are fascinating, and it's wonderful to know that many of the programmers and developers who were at Nintendo back when the company's video game efforts were relatively new, have gone on to stay working on these titles ever since.
    Anyway, please share this video, and if you liked it, we've done plenty more Nintendo videos on other games and creators. Check out our stuff!

    It kinda sucks how the best content creators on RUclips, are often the underappreciated ones.
    And I'm pretty sure nintendo was around in the late 1880's or something, but they produced playing cards (gambling cards I believe)

      Gambling was banned in Japan, as it induced addiction. So, Nintendo Koppai decided to make Hanafuda Cards. Those cards were used to depict seasons or endorse a calendar.

    Man, even at that early stage Satoru Iwata had been influencing Nintendo. How far back does his history with the company go?

  • @becus3000
    @becus3000 6 лет назад +21

    Yeah, the arcade games used the Zilog Z80 processer, whilst the Famicom used the MOS Technologies 6502. The SNES used the 65816, the 16-bit equivalent to the 6502.

    Ooooh, a two-parter. Nice!
    I definitely second the moral here - having a group of friends working together makes things a lot easier, and more fun. ^.^

    I could've sworn the dev interview page for the balloon fight port on the NES classic on Nintendo.com talks about how Iwata programmed the NES version.

    I find the voice difficult to listen to.
    I don't like the "story time with mum" theme.
